  3. heya PK, I think they are a bit heavy but they have a wheelie thing attachment that makes launching a breeze.
  4. First thing, I just want to say thanks to Sam for giving me some tips on places to fish! I went to a local pond to relieve some stress before finals...my last time fishing til their done so I thought I'd try out a new place. Started off at 7ish with a trout pattern rat-l-trap, lost it due to faulty leader knot, I then tied on a "Bleeding shiner" rat. It was around 8pm when the first fish hit...uber dink, but at this point i'm thinking, "hey better than nothing"...2 more casts later I get another hit, small one about 1lb or less. About 10 mins later I cast parallel to shore and get slammed by this beauty...takes my baits and runs with it while I'm praying my second leader knot was tied properly...she jumps about 3 times and pulls my line constantly. I finally get her to shore and lip her, and d**n she's fat! She took my rat deep and I had to go from behind her gill plate to get it out...She was eventually released (no blood!) and swam off a bit dazed. Uber dink! decent size, decent fight big one! looks smaller in the pic now that I take a look at it =( I didn't bring my scale...AGAIN....so I'm guessing around 3-4lbs!
  5. sexy ride ! cant wait to try her out =D
  6. mmmm I wanna see how good they are to eat! ...that means catching one first though
  7. I've been thinking about making my own lures, however I think I should practice painting them first... which site has a good quality lure? I know these will just be practice plugs but in the event I actually come out with a decent lure I'd like it to swim nicely! Luremaking.com upnorthoutdoors.com jannsnetcraft.com staminainc.com which one has good unpainted cranks? if there are any other sites you order from please list!
  8. what's your price range? For around 30 I like the feel of the berkley lightning rods... for around 60, BPS has their Extreme rods on sale frequently for around 90, St croix has the Premier model for around 100 you can buy my st croix avid cranking rod
  9. depends alot on how clear your water is, for clear water the visibility of red could extend much farther than 12 ft, for stained water it could be just a few ft. I've tried red Powerpro braid, it didn't have a noticeable effect on the amount of bass I was catching... I fished red and green side by side and if i was catching fish I was catching them on both. It's a confidence thing and/or a cosmetic thing...I like the way the red and yellow lines look on my reels, it's a change from clear or green.
  10. wow beautiful!
  11. Heya guys, I've been lurking around recently and I've been amazed with the beautiful hardbaits you guys are handmaking. I'm tempted to give it a shot and was wondering if you guys could give me any tips or links to a place that could help me start out. Thanks!
  12. I bought one of the G-loomis oil skin hats a while back and I love the thing...however...after awhile it started smelling funny, something akin to the smell of fresh asphalt. Not pleasant. I'm not quite sure what to do...febreeze doesn't work on it and now I'm tempted to just wash it, but I'm afraid to lose the oil in the oil skin. Any ideas on what I should do?
  13. It's only grand larceny when you get caught! lol
  14. Me too =D Andrew better watch out for that megabass crank....
  15. Nice fish man! I wanna try and catch a crappie, was it a fun fight? I hear pan fish put up a good fight for their size and that one is huge!
  16. Can you fish around Boshers dam?
  17. Anyone up for Saturday morning? 4/25 at Huntsman, Mercer or anywhere else =D?
  18. Alberto knot!
  19. I currently use PowerPro but I feel that suffix and stren braids work pretty much the same in terms of power and sensitivity, just the small quirks that separate them. I use 20lb powerpro for almost everything and 50lb for jigs and swimbaits. On my 20lb powerpro I've recently started using a fluorocarbon leader (berkley 100%) and I haven't felt any loss in sensitivity (though I've only been using it a few outings) If you do choose to use a leader I recommend the alberto knot!
  20. You're getting 3lbers at belle isle? wow I've got to try there more often, where at belle isle are you fishing? I've always gone to Pony Pastures to fish for smallmouth.
  21. which lake would that be if you don't mind sharing =D?
  22. I got my curado as a christmas present from my gf, we sent the rebate in pretty soon and got the check in the mail within 4 weeks or so, maybe they're just swamped with people buying them last minute! I believe the last day is 4/29?
  23. I've tried Belle isle, the current is really strong here and i've been only able to hook into 1 very small SMB, and a few pan fish. Last summer when the water level was extremely low I saw 2 huge cat fish while walking across the walkway from downtown to belle isle. Another thing is that belle isle always has alot of people playing in the water near the quarry so you get alot of nasty looks from sunbathers and picnickers. If you walk a bit north of the sunbather's you'll see a wall of dead trees that I've tried fishing from with friends, a few panfish were caught there but the water there seems too calm for any smallmouth, possibly cats here? The quarry itself has panfish in it for sure but I've never been able to catch anything larger
  24. I feel your pain buddy, I feel your pain...LOL
  25. I really hope this is an isolated incident with some miscommunication, and I hope Domino Dan has a better experience than I with the warranty. I do love their rods, so I'll probably buy again at the right price.
