YoZuri is one of the larger diameter per test strength. The first time you fish with floro you will feel the difference. If the lines you mentioned are within your budget, go for it. They both have better handling properties than Red Label or Basix in my opinion. If you are comfortable casting a stiffer line floro has some good attributes.

Most will not consider the Normas Deep Little N as old school but it’s been around for decades and still does the job. Stan Sloan’s Aggravator short arm spinnerbait is also a dirty water wonder. The Heddon Spook is timeless. Too many to list.

You have three reels mentioned that will serve you well and have effective cast control systems. Tatula CT, LFS and SLX. No bad choice here. I differ about rods. A 6-6 to 7 foot medium fast or a 3 power depending on manufacturer. It is more probable your grandson will fish lighter baits as in 3/16 to maybe a half ounce and medium/3 power will be more forgiving during the learning curve of casting. That’s how I started my grandkids and it has been successful. One other issue. Start with mono. I can’t stress that enough. This entry level stuff so equip for success in mastering the casting process first.

And, If it doesn’t fit.... get a bigger hammer.

It’s not about the tool. It’s understanding what the tool can do and how and when to apply it.

You haven’t see the video of Gary Dobyns lifting a gallon of Lucas oil with an Xtreme 746C? He sets the jug on the rear deck of his Ranger and then lifts and lowers it back to the floor. Enjoy your rod.

There is a fundamental principle to bait casting reels. The lure and its speed and weight must pull the line as fast as the line exits off the rotating spool. If your initial casting motion generates spool speed that the lure can’t keep up with that line coming off a rotating spool has to go somewhere. It’s a balance thing. Rename cast control dial or setting to rate of spool speed regulator. Hook you buddy’s coat or a bush and will experience the the extreme of the spool speed to lure weight principal.?

Throw a change up instead of a fast ball.

A bit slower and just a slight less power. The 5 power Dobyns are closer to the Tatula. The 736 is great for anything 1/2 ounce with trailer. The Tatula seems about maxed out but sets hooks just fine. The Kaden is right in the middle.
