Maverick 705CB
Some time back I dropped some images of two Dobyns Mavericks I picked up. They are headed to one of our club SAF teams. But. I was very curious about the 705CB model being it was not included in the Sierra series so I picked one up. I’ll just provide a thumbnail first impression. The blank and action are plain sweet. It’s a legit medium moderate. The rates from 1/4 to 1 ounce. I dunno about the ounce but throwing a DD22 is very well within the blank’s power. The tip action is amazing for a rod at this retail. The load and unload is really controllable. I can bomb cast or underhand roll cast a Pop R. The blank has a great flex that just begins to lock up at the end of the middle third of the blank. I guy can throw a broad range of baits with this model. The first thing I did when unwrapping it was get a guide count. Ten guides on seven foot cranking rod. That done right. Balance is on the first trim ring ahead of the lock nut. Not surprised. It’s a viable affordable option if you want a dedicated cranking rod.

What are you scared of?
I’m not afraid of heights. It’s the falling part that bothers me. And I’m with Catt, snakes. Seriously though..... my grandchildren’s futures. That I am scared of.

Reel speed for jerkbait
One consideration is how close you work the lure to the boat. A 7:1 helps me recover the lure once it’s out of the strike zone and make the next cast. Just a thought.

watermelon seed vs watermelon red flake
There are times, if you have some color to the water, a bit of red flake can make a difference. At the cost of worms, having both is not a bad idea. Let that visibility dictate.

How would you fish a stepped ledge?
Shakey Head and finesse worm. Stupid tube could be another good option.

Rage bug vs Rage craw
As the water warms I like to run the craw instead of the bug. And while you’re ordering, get a package of Space Monkeys. Yes, the lowly unheralded Space Monkey. The General Omar Bradley of creature baits.

Spinning reel under 250-300
Time for the wrench in the gears. Daiwa Caldia 3000 from Digitaka or 2500 I guess. It’s an MQ body.

straight fluoro OR braid/fc leader: distance? manageable?
Welcome! I was a braid snot for a long time but, braid technology has com so far that you can’t deny it’s benefits. All of my spinning combos run braid to leader. Knots have not been an issue when properly tied and braid reduces line twist dramatically. Braid has it’s place on bait casters but the applications are fewer for me. Enjoy the ride!

Rage Bug Vs D Bomb
The mid size Rage Bug in blue craw w. red flake is my total confidence pitching bait. We all have our go to’s. And for A-Jay, last October I handed my buddy a swing head with a green pumpkin RB rigged on it at a big bass event. He won it.

Lew's and Doyo
My motive to post: Lews started somewhere. I didn’t care and still don’t. I loved them then and the brand is relevant now.

Lew's and Doyo
All made in Japan. These are not the Shimano models of which, I had two and sold. I tried to buy them back . No luck. There are technically two generations displayed. The earlier have the anti reverse switch on top.

Does anyone else find prepping their tackle box oddly satisfying and supergluing plastics to jig heads therapeutic?
