  7. I lost my best friend last Saturday. Some might remember the story where five years ago on June 8th he surprised me by flying from Ohio to show up at my first bass trip the morning after I retired. Well, now my wife and I are in Ohio and Rick’s funeral is tomorrow. He has been my best friend for 37 years and closer than a brother. He went to the hospital for mild chest pain and was sent to surgery to relieve an arterial blockage but it was too late. It’s been really hard. He called on me when his son passed away to be there for him. Now I’m here for his wife and kids and their kids. I’m uncle Doug. To have someone like Rick just once in my lifetime is so special. I’ll ask you to send prayers and thoughts to the Shaw family. Just caring means so much. We’ll be passing the Kleenex tomorrow.
  8. The one thing I can agree on is, when you find that just right rod, you’ll know it.
  9. When SK came out with the Rage line up they added a unique creature bait but I just don’t see or hear any buzz about it. Is it the name, Space Monkey ??? We are just now getting hatches of pollywogs and a black Space Monkey is a great imitation. Am I the only guy that likes this bait? Strike King pros never promote it since it’s release.

  14. I probably should have qualified my post. I’m fishing large “pools” on the Columbia River that are up to 20 miles long or longer and over a mile wide. I also fish reservoirs that run 8 to 13 miles long with depth well over 100 feet. Large structure features can hold hundreds of bass. The smallest river is the Willamette . No dams there. Current is always present.
  15. A healthy man heals quickly.
  16. Put an old reel on it after cutting it down and use that for your plug knocker rig:
  17. The 7-1 hf skippin has some guts. I had one. You can frog with it.
  18. Constant bottom contact or the attempt to scrape the bottom regardless of how fast the weight or bait is moving.
  19. Black on black and silver on white. Toads at the trailer. That covers it for me.
  20. My experience is smallmouth are roamed, move in packs and are sight based opportunistic feeders. Smallness will take advantage of current to have the food brought to them. They are masters of saving energy by utilizing current breaks and seams. smallies being sight feeders move vertically to feed stations shallower than there deeper safe haunts. Baits coming off a ledge break may be struck with force. You will at times have to answer the question, are they feeding up or feeding down. Figure that out, find current breaks and the success level goes up fast.
