  1. I've had a Yamaha on my boat for about a year now and have not had one single problem with it except for flooding the engine, which was 100% my fault. It cranks on a dime and is real easy to tune. I'm getting ready to buy another bass boat that has an 85 Mariner on it. If i'm correct, Mariner is Mercury's "off" brand right? The guy is selling this boat for nothing close to its true value, he just needs quick cash so I jumped on the deal, i'll post pics as soon as I get a chance.
  2. Wow thanks for the tips. That helps a lot. I really needed to know what it looked like on the graph, thanks LBH for making that clear.
  3. When you are searching for weedlines, are they visible(out of the water), or are you looking for something specific on your graph? Probably a silly question but i'd like to know for sure if i'm going about this the right way.
  4. I'm going to have to give myself a 5. I'm really praticing alot and working on finding a good summer pattern and mastering it, i'm getting ready to purchase my first real bass boat, I currently have a 16' jon boat w/ a 15 horse yamaha on it now. It's great but I want something a little bigger.
  5. Does anyone know of a sale going on for the 4th? I really need a new trolling motor and was just wondering if this would be a good time to go. Let me know if you've heard anything. Thanks guys.
  6. I agree with the fact that its great to get kids involved, but wouldn't it be better for them to look up to someone like KVD or another icon such as him rather than someone who mistreats and has no respect for the fish themselves. IMO this sport does not need that sort of publicity, its not like baseball or football where there are an unlimited # of balls to play with. The fish population could easliy be wiped out by the growth and popularity of fishing, say if 10 times more people went fishing these days and kept their catches, that would drastically hurt a species or the population. Just my 2 cents.
  7. Same thing happened to me, twice. It was line in tangled in the prop both times.
  8. I feel your pain Fishguy. I always set the hook with the rod butt right below my ribs to give me more power on the hook-set. And if I accidently set the hook on a log or rock, that really hurts.
  9. Ok my method seems a lot less work than melting them all the way down but we'll see. If the lure is not to destroyed I simply hold a lighter underneath the hole and it melts quickly and seals the hole right up.
  10. I've been told that the "yawning" of a fish is done after they eat something. Can't remember why but just something i was told.
  11. Thats interesting, i've never had that problem(yet). I'll have to keep my eyes open for that though, thanks for the heads up!
  12. My first thought here was to take a stringer and tie it onto the boat somewhere away from the motor, that would save you space in the boat, money in your pocket, and you don't have to worry about the fish running out of oxygen or the battery going dead. Just a thought, this is what i do on my little Bass Hunter.
  13. Sometimes, the person that's holding the boat doesn't always know how to operate it. I know when I take my g/f out w/ me thats the case. She doesn't know how to run the boat or back up the trailor, and she's blonde which out rules the option of teaching her . On a really busy day i'll just pull the boat up on the bank near the parking lot so i 'm not in anyone's way and I can take all the time I need, then i'll just drive the boat over to the trailor after backin it down.
  14. Man that is dedicated. Selling your house to buy one with a bigger garage just so you can fit your boat in there!!
  15. yeah never pass up an oppurtunity to fish in these types of areas. the fish may not be big all the time but in my experience you'll almost always get a bite, i like throwing a tiki-stik or senko type bait wacky rigged as far under there as i can.
  16. hey kirk. i to have the same size triangular bow on my 16' semi-v-hull. i've got a transom mount trolling motor sitting up there now, but i want to put a bow mount on it since the bushing's are taking a beating on the way the TM trolling motor sits. i'm wondering how the bow mount will handle the weight when retracted. also, the hole where the bow light sits in is right in the middle of the bow about 3 inches from the front, will this affect the positioning of the motor? i really feel lost in the market for a new bow mount trolling motor since i've never had one before on this boat.
  17. well the most basic thing i can tell you with the info you've given is as follows: practice on the water as much as you can before the tx and if you havn't found a pattern by then, just replicate the patter of the guy on the front of the boat b/c more likely than not, he's been on some fish previous to the tourney. good luck, i've got a tx coming up end of this month that i'm still not ready for and may not be by then.
  18. Most of my senko bites do occur on the initial fall. But i've certainly gotten plenty of bites after the bait has hit the lake bottom. I've had fish follow the senko all the way up to the boat and then dart back down so I know they keep their eyes on it even when it is rising to the surface and not just on the downfall.
  19. i'll toast to that! thanks glenn and thanks to everyone who posts here and helps everyone out.
  20. how long does the sealant need to sit before i can put the boat in the water? i was thinking about installing it tomorrow but i don't want to disable my boat for the whole weekend seeing as i work and go to school all during the week.
  21. What temperature do you recommend to keep the livewell at? I assume 70-80 is a safe range, right? Of course this isn't a huge issue seeing as I change my water out very often while holding fish but this will help my judgement as to whether or not I'm wasting my battery juice on the aerator(sp) or not.
  22. when you're mounting the transducer on the transom. should you apply the silicone sealant before of after you put the screws for the mounting bracket in?
  23. i've been using the 5" yum dinger with a 3/0 finesse wide gap hook by gamakatsu. i'm going to see if anyone around here carries the 4" yum dingers.
  24. the lack of the black pattern you speak of good be due to water quality as well as a combination of age. i've got some bass that are a light green on top and a very pale white on bottom with no dark color in b/t. this of course was out of a very stained muddy lake.
  25. hael yeah thats a good deal. you'll have fun with that thing. is this your first boat? i just got my first one about a year ago and couldn't be happier.
