  1. as of now, my mp3 player has been having trouble keeping away from The Black Keys.
  2. lol Sam, that sounds like a lot of fun too. If there were crawfish and Abita involved I might have to make a tough choice.
  3. I'm furious! I just bought a new Citica at the $119 price and a week later, they go on sale, as well as Curados for $119 with a rebate at ***! What are the advantages of the Curados over the Citicas? Should I try to maybe exchange my Citica for the Curado now that they are very close to the same price or should I maybe just try to pick up a whole new Citica for another rig? or should I just be content with always buying stuff a week before I should? >
  4. Nice job with the cloning tool. I use it a lot for corrections like removing power lines, people, etc...
  5. Vekol, I was just going to mention that episode in reference to this thread. I was shocked when I saw them catching smallies that far below the fall line on the Potomac, and they caught quite a few, it wasn't just one random fish. It's always amazing how fish will go against conventional wisdom. For example, I caught a striper up by Elys Ford on the Rapidan Has anyone fished that really rocky section that you cross on I-95 right before you get to the city? I always look down as I drive over that bridge and it looks like there could be some good spots down there if you can get to them.
  6. Yeah, i've watched a few episodes. It's strange, you wouldn't think a show about logging would be that interesting, but it is. The show is kind of similar to Deadliest Catch, which I also found interesting.
  7. I just checked on Burke's website, no alcohol allowed. I'm pretty sure that goes for the other parks in the area as well. Oh well, it's not very important.
  8. Sounds good to me! Are you allowed to have alcohol at Burke though?
  9. Yes, I've been fishing the Shenandoah, as well as the North River. That's part of the reason why I said it may be different in Fredericksburg, because the Shenandoah and the Rapp are very different rivers. The Shenandoah's bottom goes from silty to bedrock depending where you are, the Rapp is usually more Sandy and has isolated boulders instead of completely rock bottom. I am not very familiar with the part of the Rapp you are fishing (I'm guessing near River Rd.) but I would try drifting plastics (grubs, senkos, tubes, or my favorite, flukes) through any current that empties into slower, deeper water. That might be a lot of areas to fish but unless you know of specific pools with specific rocks or structure, it might be the best way to find fish. If you find rocks in deep, slower water pools, maybe try targetting them with a shaky head to get down to the bottom more effectively than drifting. You may even want to try a crankbait down on the rocks but I haven't used them yet this year. Good luck, let me know how you do.
  10. J, the river fish down here near Harrisonburg have been sitting in deep pools below current. Try drifting baits through the current then down into the deep part of the pool. Not sure if they're doing the same thing in Fredericksburg but that seems to be what they're doing here.
  11. as others have said, in general, glass is very popular for cranking. I'd say you're alright.

  13. so they're gonna try to block the roadways? things are bad for a lot of people, why make it worse?
  14. Thanks guys, I really appreciate it
  15. My mom called me today and told me that after going to the doctor to check out his pneumonia, my grandpa had a biopsy of something in his lung taken. She called back tonight and told me that he has been diagnosed with some sort of bad lung cancer. He has had asbestoses for years from being a pipe fitter for most of his life and this is most likely related to that. Please pray for him, I'd like to have him around for a while longer. My earliest memories of fishing are when my grandpa would take me and my brother to a small creek in rural Pennsylvania to catch rock bass and bluegills. He is responsible for my interest in the outdoors and has given me much of my common sense through his Yogi Berra-like take on life. He taught me to always widdle a stick with the knife blade going away from me, he taught me not to lip a Muskie (and showed me the scars to show why), he taught me to treat people as I wanted to be treated, and how to solve problems with my hands and a little hard work, he showed me that a real man can flip over a Cub Cadet and still finish mowing the lawn, he showed me how to toss panfish back into the water, he taught me how to shoot a gun, he taught me how spotlighting for deer and turkey at night is more exciting than any tv show, and so much more.
  16. yeah, but there's a difference between curly and straight fries. Obviously a curly fry is cut in a different way that allows for longer fries. A regular fry is more impressive than a curly fry of the same length.
  17. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/va/nwis/current/?type=flow There are a few gauges listed for the New River, find the one that is closest to where you are fishing.
  18. lol, that's what I thought.
  19. Thanks. I already made it a habit to steer clear of Four Mile Run though.
  20. cool. I remember crossing Pepper's Ferry Bridge when I went to Parrott this summer to wade fish. That is a beautiful river down there. Rockier than what I'm used to wading, but you can tell that helps the crawfish population and in turn the size of the smallmouth.
  21. awesome! I've only fished the New once but I can't wait to go back. Those fish get HUGE down there! Where were you fishing?
  22. I think he's suggesting that when you get more into bass fishing you might upgrade to more expensive equipment and change your name to fit it...
  23. I don't understand why people are so set on getting a high post count. It doesn't make any difference...We've had (and still have) people who are so intent on making their post count higher that most of their posts are useless, one-sentence generic remarks that don't contribute to anything. That guy that got banned for spamming the board a little while ago used to do that all the time--he'd post stuff like, "Cool." or "Awesome, great job" for 85% of his posts. And he'd have 15-20 posts a day! We still have people that do that and I'll never understand it. Maybe if you got a prize or something... but it means nothing, so why clutter the forum and waste the time?
  24. Can you get an Avid replaced with an Avid for free with the warranty? Just wondering because I have an Avid and that was what I thought the deal was for exact replacement. Anyway, I'd say if you have the money, go for it. I love my Avid and haven't used a Legend but I've heard good things about it. Plus, that's a pretty darn sweet deal when you think about it. A $100 upgrade to a much more expensive rod is a good deal.
  25. WELCOME! Thanks you for joining. We are an awesome group. Our awesomeness is exceeded only by our good-lookingness. Except for Burley, who sort of brings down the group average. Seriously, though. Nice to have you here. LMAO! ;D
