Fredericksburg Outdoor Show
I have done especially well on the green pumpkin and purple colors. I usually fish them for smallmouth in rivers. They work in lots of places but the best place I find is anywhere depth changes. I usually cast them out in the shallow area and let them drift or jerk them down into the deep area, letting them sink once they get into the deep area. Try fishing them in lots of ways, they are awesome. Use them anywhere you would a fluke. As I said before, they just sink a little better than flukes, and that's what I like, especially when you need that extra sink to get down deep in a current.

It's true, just rig them weightless, cast, walk them across the top then let em sink. They sink much better than any other fluke style bait.

just curious
I have a 30 GB Zune. Works great.

aww, man. I would love to be able to go to a show with a Case plastics booth. I love their Sinkin' Salty Shads. Probably caught 90% of my smallmouth on them last summer.

My new job.....
I kind of had a similar situation when I worked at Dick's. I knew how to do all the obvious stuff, stock shelves, move boxes, label prices...but they didn't do a good job teaching me the gun sales stuff. The solution is simple, just ASK QUESTIONS. Never just try to figure it out or be afraid to sound stupid by asking questions because if you do it wrong, you'll feel even dumber. It's much easier for you as the worker and for the employer if you ask how to do something and get it done right the first time instead of trying to do it yourself.

best shakey head sizes with 6# line
i usually fish shallow rocky rivers so I usually stick between 1/8 and 1/4 but sometimes use up to 3/8 in football heads. Football heads work great on shakey heads around rocks. The depth i usually fish these are anywhere from 2-8 feet, although sometimes up to 10 or 12 (that's when I use the heavier weights)

that's right, sorry simonsays, I knew it was one or the other. tpayneful, JMU also has a high girl:guy ratio, I believe it's 60%-40% drums, was it maybe Lake Shenandoah? It's the only lake near campus I can think of, and you can rent boats.

david, it works at about 6'' to 1' under the surface.

LOL Sam! Party till 12? what kind of lame party is that? I'm just kidding. Anyways, what I meant was that it's not that I don't have time to learn the baitcaster, I just haven't put the time and effort into practicing it. I also normally wade fish so I can only take one setup, and since I am fishing smallie rivers, naturally my go to rig is a spinning one because I can do the finesse plastics that I use the most for smallies. drums, apparently Radford got sick of their reputation and the administration has started to crack down on partying in recent years. JMU has prettier girls as well. Although we also took another top rating from them recently, highest frequency of STDs... Have you been to Harrisonburg recently, drums? They're changing a lot of stuff. They are building a new library up by ISAT, they are digging a tunnel under Main street to connect the quad to a parking garage on the other side of the street, and also they are building a new arts center on Main street near Anthony-Seeger hall. They also recently bought the old Harrisonburg High School building and turned it into classrooms. BTW, Drums, do you have any good fishing spots down here in or near Harrisonburg?

Rapala SubWalks
I've got one. It's not really like a jerkbait. It is almost exactly like the Skitterwalk in appearance but the weighting is different and there are small fins near the rear of the bait. It glides in a walk the dog motion more than an xrap, which moves much more unpredictably and abruptly. I think it's a great solution for situation when you fish topwater baits and get followers who are just shy enough to not eat something on top. It's the same theory behind those buzzbaits with the long arms on em, sometimes fish are attracted to the motion of a bait but don't take it because they are hesitant to break the surface.

No, I go to JMU, I think SimonSays goes to ODU though, if I am not mistaken. Flippin, I would like to try it out, I just need to learn how to use a baitcaster first! I still haven't given them any time to learn.

I buy them used and I still average between $300 and $400 per semester in books alone!

Who on BR would you like to fish with?
I would like to fish with lots of the members here, but I think fishing with any of the VA guys ( I've seen some of them while fishing but didn't know it until later) and also Muddy would be fun to fish with, as long as he wasn't in charge of the trolling motor.

That's what the guy was telling me. I was looking at 7'6" flippin stick at the show for a new jig/swimbait/toad rod but it's going to have to wait a little while. Which rod do you have? I really liked the ones with the feathers in them, but I also liked the black and silver ones with the carbon coatings and titanium guides. I think I'll probably end up getting one of their lower end rods though, because I will probably be buying a casting reel at the same time and I don't want to spend a semester's book money on a new setup.

Found a great Basstrixtype bait hook today....
I have some of DOA's pinch weights for jerkbaits, but I'm sure they would work well on swimbait hooks as well. here's a link: http://www.doalures.com/pinch_weights.htm

Photoshop... HELP!!!
The trial version is for a limited time, just get GIMP, it's free. You can often get discounts on programs like Photoshop if you are a student. Other than that, I don't know of any legal ways to get photoshop

is 5/0 big enough for the 5.5" Bass Magics? I thought I might need a 6/0

A few things from the Richmond Fishing Expo
just got back from Richmond after going to the expo and got a few things. I didn't get that much because I went to Bass Pro last month and I'm just a poor college student, so don't make fun of my relatively small purchase( talking to you guys with the thousands of japanese jerkbaits and piles of plastics... ;D ) Finally found some flapp'n hogs, got some Green pumpkin power tubes, a LC Gunfish that I've also been trying to find for a while, a few counter-buzz buzzbaits, a cavitron buzzbait, baby bass and black colored spinnerbaits, and two rock stalker football jigs with hidden line ties. I LOVE getting new stuff!

Has anyone been to the Richmond Fishing Expo yet?
I thought it was pretty good. They had some nice tackle vendors and the Bass tank was very cool. I stopped by and watched a guy show how to use some lures and almost catch about 4 bass with a crankbait that lit up when wet. Here's some stuff that I got:

did you guys check out those Grandt rods at the show? Man they are nice looking. The guy at the booth said they have higher modulus graphite than any other rods on the market. He also said they sell the rods at the show at a 40% discount.

thanks, Dahorns, I'll be sure to check them out this spring when I get close to an Academy.

avid, everything Glenn has said is correct. You have plenty of storage space, but that only matters in determining if you can install the program and still have room for other stuff. The program won't be more than a few GBs on the hard drive. The thing you need is RAM. Do you know how much RAM you have? You should be fine, but sometimes photoshop will slow down with applying filters, especially on high resolution images if you don't have enough RAM. That being said, unless you are really going to start doing a lot of Photoshop work, I would just go with GIMP. It is NOT the same as Photoshop, there is a reason Photoshop costs hundreds of dollars. But if you just want to be a hobbyist and don't plan on doing any really serious work and don't want to spend a lot of money, go for GIMP. For the average user, it would be a good, free alternative.

someone made a thread about the H2O baits a few days ago and nobody posted anything. Let me know how they run, I would like to get some LC colored cranks for 1/3 the price if they run well...
