Your 2017 Fishing Goals
1. Catch a new PB (looking for 6 lbs or better). 2. Fish my first ever tournaments. 3. Learn some new techniques. (I like squarebills and traps, but need to learn the jig). 4. Go to a different lake or two. (I live 4 miles from a ramp on Guntersville; it's hard to drive by it.) 5. Take some people fishing who don't get to go much. 6. Start working on my captains license, maybe. 7. Go crappie fishing. I never go crappie fishing. 8. Have fun. Maybe that should be No. 1.

California Bluegill!
Man that's huuuge! I'd love to get into some that size. Do you catch them in numbers or just 1 or 2 here and there.

Where to take wife
Guntersville. We got great restaurants (Top O River, Wintzells, Cracker Barrel, etc), Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, world class cave at Cathedral Caverns. If you come in May, stick a couple cricket baskets in your boat. We got unbelievable bluegill fishing. That's what my wife likes to fish for. Once of the beauties here is you can fish more than one lake if you want. Neely Henry, Smith, Wheeler all within an hour. Call Marshall Co Convention and Visitors Bureau. 256-582-7015 they will send you some info. Also check out the Alabama Bass Trail. I'm gonna visit Guntersville Lake myself in the a.m. It's Nov 17 and hit 80 here today.

Bass or Multispecies?
I just like to fish. I'm trying real hard to become a better bass fisherman but I struggle. Found them schooling for shad a couple weeks ago and caught 27, my best ever afternoon on the water. Wish I could catch em like that often. I bluegill fish a lot because my wife likes fishing for them and I enjoy the action too. A local catfish pro took me out last year and I caught an 80-lb blue. It was pretty cool. Previous largest fish was a 62-lb yellowfin tuna. I'm going to get a bucket of minnows and try the crappie pretty soon. I've caught a few accidentally. But never on purpose.

The 2017 BassResource Road Trip to Pickwick Lake.
I'm a newbie to the forum but I'm thinking about it. Sounds like fun.

Casting
I take the hook off a lure. Practice pitching from back of the living room to the kitchen. I'm getting better all the time.

Baitcaster for Beginner
You don't have to spend that much. Get a Black Max. I know a guide who catches hundreds if not thousands of fish per year. He has Black Max and Silver Max on his high dollar rods.

Crankbait rod?
I just bought a Bulldawg medium for throwing squarebills. I think I'm going to like it. About $100 at my local tackle shop.

BassTracker good starter boat?
I'm not a Tracker fan. Although I always look at em when I visit Bass Pro. Wood in the decks puts me off. But if I had a chance to get a good deal on one I'd go for it. Tracker beats no boat.

Neely Henry Advice
I know nothing about it but I'm thinking of making a trip down there in October just to see some new water. Is that a good time to get on some spots? What would you throw? Squarebills, spinnerbait, senko maybe? Where would you launch?

Guntersville guide?
I haven't fished with him, but I live on Guntersville and if I were hiring a guide, I'd hire Mike Carter. I believe it's Angling Adventures. He catches extra large fish and always posts great reports on the local fishing reports webpage. I'm thinking of hiring him myself sometime.

Beginner's Luck!
Always cool to help someone else enjoy fishing, especially someone new or who doesn't get to go much.
