  1. 95% of my fishing has been with a spinning rod this year. I love ‘em. The true “dark side” is fishing for catfish.
  2. I used a spinning rod for 95% of my fishing so far this year and I’ve caught more fish. I’m going to add a “big” spinning rod to my arsenal for light slop.
  3. My Dad bought a pontoon when I was in high school. It had 2 fishing chairs up front, trolling motor between them, a giant livewell right behind the seats and a couch and table in the back. We had a ball fishing out of that thing. Guys on Guntersville rig them for crappie and catfish too.
  4. I’d just rock ‘em and fish on. It ain’t worth the trouble.
  5. It was a pro max. Not a power max. My bad.
  6. I bought a used Power Max for $30 shipped. I put it on a rod and went fishing. Put it on a like new Duckett Ghost 7-3 MH I paid $40 for. It’s a dadgum good $70 combo.
  7. I think closing lakes in this is BS. I mean you can go fishing and maintain social distancing. Dayum.
  8. I’ve been replacing my spinning reels with Pflueger Trions. Great reel for the money in my opinion.
  9. They’re a great grass or weed bait. A lot of times, you’ll get bit as it pings off a piece of grass. I’m relatively new to them too but I’ve had a ton of fun with them, especially last couple falls. If you see fish breaking the water in late summer/early fall in a shad lake, throw that spinnerbait right in the midst of em and hang on. I have had a fish on as soon as I turned the handle to engage the reel. I’ve also had em hit it right at the boat as you’re about to pull the lure up. White bass love em too.
  10. Their store is just up road from me. Good folks.
  11. I went from a 19-foot glass boat to a 17-1/2 foot aluminum. I’m enjoying the tin boat. You don’t even know it’s behind the truck. It uses little gas. I’d downsize and not look back if it got me on the water more.

I don’t know what it weighed. I didn’t have a scale. It was quite a bit bigger than the 6 lb I caught last year. It had not been a good day. Nothing much had worked for me. I found some bait and was just content catching stripers, a few crappie etc. I had to be somewhere and I was just trying to catch one more fish before I left when the big one hit. I’m guessing it was between 7 and 8 lbs. I was fishing with a 20-year old 6-foot Berkley Tournament spinning rod and 8 lb test. Never thought a new best would come that way. I’d been stuck on 6 lbs and caught one that size each of last 3 years.
  13. 7-3 Hammer Extra Hesvy/Orra SX. My “do it all” rig. Duckett Ghost/Lew’s infinity. Spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. Assortment of spinning rods. I’d like to add a 7-3 Hammer Heavy or something comparable in that size (Hammer heavy fishes like a medium hesvy.) anything comparable for $100 or less?
  14. Rat L Trap Topwater Squarebill
  15. Pink is good. School bus yellow too!
  16. I bought a Shimano Sojourn, $20.99, on Amazon. Added a Pflueger Trion. That’s about $50 for both rod and reel. I’ll probably buy another one. It’s a great little rig. The Trion is a great value in reels in my opinion.
  17. Frog bass on the G.
  18. Swim jig and chatterbait for me. I hadn’t totally given up on em but I’m close.
  19. I hadn’t fished the Falcons but I’ve really enjoyed my Hammers.
  20. I might do one baitcaster and 2 spinning rods - a 7-0 MH caster, a 6-4 or 6-6 light spinning rod and a 7-0 MH spinning rod. But I like spinning rods.
  21. I thought this was going to be about making sure your motor was “peeing.”
  22. I got an old 5-6 Shimano Bullwhip pistol grip in the garage. I’m going to put a Zebco 33 on it and throw trick worms around boathouses.
  23. I like fishing around boat docks with spinning gear. You can toss that bait into some nooks and crannies.
