Ashamed to say...

Featured Replies

What’s the 1 (or 2) baits your ashamed to say have never caught a bass on. You know the ‘standards’.

Thanks for asking Glen, I’ll start..

Carolina rig.

Rig it up. Cast it out. Then I start to feel dumb. Reel it back in, throw something else.

Interested to to hear some other ones..

A little out of the "bass" subject, but one glide bait that really is effective on the really big migrant tarpon is he Rapala Glide Rap.  I've taken a few pike on them.

Other gliding lures for bass, me too.  Shut out.

For bass, nothing on the spy baits so far.  I'm going to keep trying.

old school ... johnson silver spoon ... nothing ... and i tried ... but not ashamed in the least ...

good fishing ...

I've never caught anything on an all black bait. Some black on the bait, yes. All black, no.

And while I've caught some bass on a lipped crankbait, over the years I have lost more lipped crankbaits to snags than I have caught fish. That probably has something to do with fishing from the bank. But even the other day I tossed 3 different crankbaits and didn't get one bite. But at least I didn't lose one.

I havent caught a bass on a chatterbait but I havent used them very much .After a few cast I switch to a spinnerbait . I just dont trust the chatterbait in the places I can chuck a spinnerbait .

A Fluke... So simple, so fish catchy, and yet, I'm a fool with the Fluke.

What kind of bait is a Carolina rig?

You be ashamed you spelled Glenn's name wrong!

Tom

OK people dont laugh at me.  I have never caught a fish on a spinner bait believe it or not.   I have a ton of them but they never produce for me for some reason.  It is crazy because I have had very good days fishing a flashy swimmer with something like a caffeine shad and I also have been known to rip a lot of lips on an underspin with a keitch 3.8 and to me these baits have similar presentations with out the skirt.  That is so embarrassing because spinner baits are so tried and true, fairly simple to fish, and they are a staple in the industry.  I have also never caught a fish on a fluke.  Granted I dont throw them very often, but Ive never caught anything ok one.

I’m not the least bit ashamed, no reason to be, but I haven’t done well with paddle tail swim baits like the Keitechs. I was with a guide who had me throw some of his, I caught some smallies, went out and stocked up, haven’t caught anything on them since.

I know I need to spend more time with them, but like most of us with baits we should be catching them on, I give up on them too easily and revert to baits I have more confidence in.

I was the same way with chatterbaits until this season. I forced myself to stick with them a few times earlier this year and am glad I did.

I can’t catch a bass on a chatterbait. I’ve been throwing one for about a hour every time  I’ve been fishing for the past few months and getting nothing. Have no trouble with a spinnerbait though.

When I get a new bait I usually fish it until I catch something on it. I look at it as a challenge. I have even used the (drum roll please) Banjo Minnow and they work. Actually they work pretty good when fished like a fluke.

BTW someone gave me the Banjo Minnows as a gift so I had to fish them.

Mix up your retrieve. Let it fall a little then give it a pop.  Hang on.

I’ve been trying different retrieves with no luck. I haven’t given up on it yet though.

A lot of times we through the baits we are least confident in in areas where we are least confident in actually catching fish.  Ive found myself to be guilty of the same thing.  I dont have much confidence in flukes because ive never caught anything on a fluke so I find that when Im really confident in a certain are.  I would never tie on a fluke.  Maybe I should start fishing the baits Im least confident in in the areas Im most confident in.

I have a few baits like a Senko that I consider "go to" baits when nothing else works. The spinner bait is one of them.

BTW not laughing.

haha Thanks for not laughing at me.  Ive litterly been on a boat and watch friends tear them up on spinner baits.  I know a couple people who swears by a spinner bait as a go to, but I can throw a spinner bait and nothing.  Always like that with spinner baits for me.

The spelling of Glen(n) is what I’m referring to. It could be Clemson, NC State, Wake Forest, Vandy rig...don’t get it.

Swim jig and chatterbait for me.

I hadn’t totally given up on em but I’m close.

Nothing. Haha jk, swim jigs and glide baits for me.

Until last year spinnerbaits and buzzbait.... for 14 years. Last year I couldn’t keep them off of them.

@diversity210: Hang in there on those spinnerbaits. Try a 3/8-1/2oz version with a willow and Colorado or double willow.

Now don’t run me out of town. Honestly, how could any man call himself a bass angler and NOT catch a bass on it...

drum roll, please...

JIG-n-PIG

Yup, I admit it. I’m talking the traditional deal. I’ve come close.

Now jig and something else like a worm, yes, but not the jig-n-pig.

Wah, wah, wah, and this piggy had none and cried all the way home.

With regard to traditional bass catching lures, I don’t think mine could be beat.
