  1. Tips for building your own work bench... 1) Make sure it is tall enough... I built mine about 42 in. tall, since I am over 6 ft.... I dont have to slouch when I work, keeps the back and shoulder fatigue away... 2) Build it strong enough to park a car on.... especially if you plan on using it as a reloading bench... I built mine out of 2x6s and the top is a chunk of laminate from a constructions site that is 2 in. thick, that I lagged down to the frame. I have a vise attached, and I have used a 6 ft. cheater bar to break something loose, in the vise.. the bench never moved. 3) Make it bigger than you think you will need.... I figured I needed a 5 ft. bench.. I made it 7 foot long and 40 in. deep. I have used every inch of it. Or if you have money to burn,, ,Uline has a wonderful 8 ft. work bench with holes for electical outlets,, starts at about 350.00. You can get a laminate, wood or steel top for it... weighs in at 300 lbs.
  2. If you read the owners manual for your vehicle it will have a towing section, and tell you what the manufacture reccomends for towing... I have a 2004 Ranger Edge, Ford made thier overdrive system come on when you start the vehicle, so you have to turn it OFF before driving.... and if you tow in overdrive, I hope you like to replace transmissions.... 2500-5000.00 at a time.....
  3. And the congregation said....................... AMEN BROTHER ROADWARRIOR!
  4. Chris, I could not agree more about poachers,, ,they need to be handled with as harsh a justice as possible... they should also be deported if they are citizens.. and if they are,, prison is really to good , but you cant just shoot them. :-/ :-/ I watched a Fish and Wildlife officer write over 2000.00 in tickets to a group of Asians, for having illegal fish, using illegal hooks, etc... etc.. etc... they were back the next day, using the same gear, keeping the same fish,, I went and made a phone call, and the F&W guys were back, this time hauling them to jail,, they act llike they dont care... We used to have a problem with guys placing nets in the smaller rivers, to net salmon.... well the fishermen took care of that problem,,,, go buy a couple of bales of straw, go upstream to a bridge, drop them over into the river... they will wipe out a net, ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  5. Chris, Man, I am jealous to be catching all those sturgeon.... As for the weight of the one I caught, have no idea, but I could not reach around the pig... and I have almost a 7 ft. wingspan.. The Wash. State F&G officer was standing next to me when I finally landed the beast.... it was his estimate.. But he was just as excited as my buddy and I was.... I have been in the boat when a 14 footer was brought along side, just below Bonneville Dam on the Columbia,,, man, it was almost scary, how big that fish looked... The one the Army Corps keeps in a pool at the dam for tours, and such is about 15 ft... and you are 100% right on the taste and such,,, wow, my mouth is watering thinking about it... Do you have much problem with the asians or russians taking the fish illegally???? That was a huge problem on the Columbia River...
  6. As much as I hate to say this,, what about California??? No offense to residents there but not one of my favorite places,, but they do have big bass....
  7. BASS is broke???????????????/ is FLW to much competition??? My question is this.......... Most guys who would watch those shows are out fishing on Sat. and Sun. mornings right????????? Isnt that setting the shows up for failure???
  8. I would have to go with the following Salmon Steelhead Sturgeon Halibut - (nothing like trying to lift a barn door off the ocean floor) Lake trout World Record Shark
  9. Looks like one big cow pasture to me,,,, ;D ;D ;D very large area of very green grass, with water, and shade trees,, let me check... Yep, that qualifies it as a cow pasture :-? :-?
  10. I am looking for the same thing myself..
  11. Did you look to see if you had a flat tire?? Maybe the front end needs alignment? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  12. At the time??????? Wow, Doghouse, are you gonna take that from him???????? Made you sound all washed up. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  13. Man, got to thinking about eating sturgeon and lost my train of thought.. ;D ;D :o. CRS disease I guess....... Anyway, Chris, have you ever hooked into a big sturgeon before??? I hope your hanging on when you do... I hooked one in the Columbia River years ago,,, took me an hour and 45 min. to land it. It taped out at 7'7". Game Warden said it would have gone over 500 lbs..... It was the sweetest feeling after that long fight to let that monster swim away (by law you have to due to slot limits on the columbia river) Good luck, and catch a big un and take some pics..... We used to use Pickled eel, with a herring wrapped on the leader..
  14. Sturgeon steaks,, , MMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMM GOOD!!!!! or smoked sturgeon, or grilled sturgeon, or baked sturgeon, or broiled stugeon..... :o :o :D :D :D
  15. The biggest crappie i caught out of Silver Lake was 12.5 in... and man did it taste good ;D :-? Love fishing the edges of all those lilly pads. I wish there was more public access to the lake though. The last time I was on the lake, I got a rope tangled in my prop. I pulled the rope up and it had an anchor tied to it ;D. Bonus time!!!!!
  16. I used to live just south of there, and went to Silver Lake all the time... I can remember those days of catching crappie till you were tired of reeling them in... no matter what you threw out there on the hook.. Nice fish, you catch any nice bass out of there????
  17. Vanilla Ice has talent?????????????????????? What has this world come to that people can say that??????? My dog howls better than he can sing! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  18. I know it is for charity, and that is a good thing...... but I can not see chasing a little white ball around a perfectly good cow pasture with fishing holes set in the middle of it.. for any reason.... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  19. I elk hunt in the shadows of Mt. St. Helens, supposed home range of bigfoot, We always set up a camp of Army tents with wood stoves, etc.. it is about 40 miles to the nearest phone and gas pump. My brother and I were out one morning, before daylight, hiking down a trail to a meadow we wanted to still hunt. We always had our headlamps on, and were making good time, not talking, just hiking. All of a sudden, a vertical walking animal, crossed the trail about 15 yrds in front of us... never stopped, never looked at us, nothing.... and man did it stink!!!!!!!! and it never made a sound. A big foot???? who knows... two tired hunters with not enough coffee in us?? yep.... found out later that one of the most believed sightings in the Mt. St. Helens area was about 1 mile from where we had seen this thing..... 1 yr. ealier... who knows what it was,, but I am telling you, it made us nervous as H@ll for awhile until it got daylight.... we finished walking into the meadow with our rifles shouldered, and our 44 mags, in our hands... : : :-? :-? :o
  20. Did he say he actually got the insurance company to pay??????????? :o :o :o :o : : : : : : : : : : : :
  21. Congratulations to both of ya, to bad about the lost fish...
  22. I throw crankbaits primarily on a baitcaster, but I know guys who could not use a baitcaster if thier life depended on it ;D. They catch fish using a spinning rod for crankbaits, spinnerbaits, etc.......
  23. There is a reason that most police officers are taught to shoot pit bulls on site if they are entering a home for a bust... I know of 3 diff. officers had to go thru the rabies therapy, after being bit by pit bulls during drug busts.... I would more likely trust a wild wolf over a pit bull any day of the week.
  24. Gameover, I have been in your shoes. I almost lost everything, I finally went to work for a temp service, until I could actually find a good job... which I did about 2 months later.... Our prayers and well wishes go out to you my friend.
  25. Hope you gave her a big kiss before turning her loose..... you know how women can be! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Congrats on a great fish!
