  1. I can cast and retrieve with either, but prefer to keep my rod in my right hand, and crank with my left. I think it stems from fighting bigger fish growing up and living in the Pacific Northwest, where 20 -30 lb. salmon were not uncommon, then you have 6-15 lb. steelhead that can really fight. I always wanted my stronger arm holding the rod and fighting the fish. Plus I did not have to switch hands after casting. It probably boils down to personal preference, for most people.
  2. Here are my two favorites. My wife bought the one on the right. I think she thought she was being funny.
  3. Catt, I watched the game,, I was in shock about the timing of pulling the pitcher. The coach must have lost the timing or something...... the reliever never had a chance.
  4. Just saw the post about your boat build. lol man you have lots of places to mount your F/f. All the decking in front. Just mount it up in the front corner so it is out of the way when you are fishing.
  5. A picture of the boat you are wanting to mount it on may help. However, do you want to mount it up front or in the back of the boat? Do you have any decking on the front? How about welded gussets in the back corners for strength?
  6. Hawaii vs. Mexico La. had the game won till the 6th inning. Hawaii came back big. Go islanders!!!!!
  7. Look at the Powell, Kistler, and Outlaw rods. They rank right up there with St. Croix and others. You would not be disappointed. In reels, I am not as paticular with my spinning reels. I use Shimano in the 75 - 100.00 range, or Abus. But I would also give Pflueger a look as well. Good luck, you are going to get a world of varying opinions on this one.
  8. Sam, You are right, as long as it works for you, then do it! I use the Yo Zuri Hybrid, so 6 lb. test is like using 10 or 12, mono. The biggest bonus to the mojo rig, in my opinion besides not having a weight clamped on your line, is this. The weight is cylindrical like a pencil, and does not gather the grass and weeds as badly, and will work over and around sticks, rocks, etc... better than a clamped weight. And if I want to go to a lightweight T rig, I just remove the rubber peg holding the weight in place. Which I have done and actually caught fish that were ignoring the mojo set up. I was actually fishing the tx when Fluke caught his PB on a mojo rig in the grass, on back to back fish. One of my buddies actually watched him catch the 2 hawgs on the mojo, that day. Weigh in was something to watch, I can tell you!!!
  9. Oh, and the heaviest line I use is 6lb Flourocarbon.
  10. Sam's post is excellent, but I differ in my split shot technique, in a couple of ways. If I am going to use a typical split shot set up. I use 2/0 - 3/0 EWG hooks, and a Bull shot, anywhere from 1/32 - 1/4 oz. Bull shot is a bullet weight but clamps on the line like a regular round split shot. Then I use a Finesse or trick worm (color or your choice as long as it is pumpkin or watermelon) ;D I normally put my splitshot 12-24 in. up from the hook. That being said, I much more prefer the MOJO rig to a splitshot rig. Use it the same way, but you do not have a weight CRIMPED on your line, instead it is a small cylindrical weight pegged on your line with a rubber type stopper.
  11. I use a 7' BPS extreme, and I can skip anything I can throw with it. That being said, a shorter rod would work better especially in a boat. You do not want to slap your partner with the lure as you side arm one towards a dock......(not that i did that or anything, nope, never happened, gotta prove it, no pictures were taken) : :
  12. I feel the power rating is pretty close to what they say it is. Also, if they say it has a fast or X-fast tip, believe it. You are going to step into a new world once you fish with it.
  13. Where did you find that pic of my father in law????? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  14. now that is funny!!!
  15. My families thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this rough time. John
  16. Send that stuff north about 150 miles.. we need it up here in N. Georgia.
  17. HIDE THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!
  18. I have the Kistler magnesium HCFS (Heavy Cover Fish Snatcher). This rod is awesome. It is a Heavy with a fast tip. It is light, but with lots of backbone. It has the no foregrip, splitgrip design with exposed blank thru the reel seat. It is by far one of the most sensitive rods I have ever used. I put a 3/8 oz. jig with trailer on it. Cast it out, and just twitch the jig back to me. I can feel every breath a fish takes within 5 ft. of the jig. It also works as a Crig rod, and I am even considering it for a small to med. swimbait rod... All in a 6'9" package. Excellent rod, can not say a bad thing about Kistler so far.
  19. Japanese officials tried to capture him, to protect the fishermen in Japan, but he is smarter than the average monkey and got away, to terrorize and compel the unlucky? fishermen in that country!!! ;D ;D http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/indexFP.php?rn=3906861&cl=9368284&ch=4226726
  20. Congratulations Old Man, lol..... You have me by a total of 5 yrs. so maybe I should not be calling you old.. Hope you get everything you want and deserve for your b-day, and now go fishing!!!
  21. I watch the LLWS every year. Can not get enough of those kids playing ball for just the thrill of playing. The pure raw emotion and the intensity they bring to the game is unreal. Wish some of the grown ups would remember it is just a game. I have seen parents act like this is life or death, and the kids just lose interest.
  22. The lakes i fish are generally very very clear and highly pressured, so yes, I always put a flourocarbon leader on my braid. Not taking any chances.
  23. I saw this as it was televised live on ESPN. Wife came in and asked why I was crying... I just pointed at the tv. God Bless, and Rest in Peace The world is a darker place without you.
  24. You should have seen some of the looks Burley and I were getting riding around in a van with The Pink Squirel signs all over it. I want to ask the obvious ?, but ummmmmmmmm am afraid of the answer!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
