  1. I have purchased a couple holographic lures in the past, and I don't seem to get the results that I do with the more natural looking baits. I think it was one of those times where the fisherman got caught. Falcon
  2. Sorry about that. I should have mentioned I use strips of meat. Beef or venison. I also use a charcoal smoker and not a dehydrator. Falcon
  3. When I make jerky I use a brine mix made by Luhr Jensen. I've had alot of compliments from family and friends about how good my jerky is. There is no e-mail address on the package, but here is the phone number: 1-800-535-1711. I even use the same brine for smoking salmon. Falcon
  4. The only trailer I've ever tried on a spinnerbait is a curly tail grub. I had decent success with it. I Have a spinnerbait set-up with a chatterbait trailer just waiting for the weather to settle down so I can try it out. I'll let you know how it works. Falcon
  5. john087, I don't know part of Lake St. Clair you've been fishing on, but to say it's "never the best" is a bit off base. I don't know what part of the lake you fish, but if you fish the areas I mentioned you'll catch smallies along with walleyes, muskies, and pike. I've seen a few interviews with KVD and he said his favorite lake was St. Clair. That's a pretty good endorsement. You can also ask GMAN on this site, he was here last spring and he said it was phenomenal. I think if you come here and give it another chance you might change your mind. Just my opinion, Falcon
  6. I've used Abu Garcia reels for twenty-four years with zero problems, my choice would be the Revo STX. Falcon
  7. Welcome to the best site on the net. Falcon
  8. I only use Gamakatsu EWG's. As you said, they are always sharp, and I've never had a problem with hook-ups. Just my preference. Falcon
  9. Another vote for the Revo. Great reel!!! Falcon
  10. Jnamo, You're welcome. It isn't the most clearly worded note. It could have been a seperate note in my opinion. Yes it's very nice living the water. Believe it or not, it was my wife's idea. The best thing about living on the water, is not having to deal with all the screwballs at the boat ramp every time I go fishing. Falcon
  11. Check fishing guide. Bottom of page 8 where the red letters state: Catch and immediate release season. "Lake St. Clair, St Clair River, and Detroit River from last Saturday in April-Friday before the third Saturday in June". Just don't have any in your livewell and you're OK. Falcon
  12. You guys think you have problems. My canal has been clear of ice for two weeks and I was really enjoying the fishing after a long winter. Well, this morning I wake up to ice on my canal again. I need to find some place warm real fast or I'm going to lose my mind. Falcon
  13. They are now allowing "catch and immediate release" until the opener. Falcon
  14. For me it's the Bomber Long A. For years I caught tons of bass on that lure, then one day they stopped. It's been about three years since I tried them, maybe this year I'll give them another shot. Falcon
  15. If you fish in May, the smallies will be just about anywhere close to shore. That time of year I don't even have to put my boat on plane. I come out of my canal and start fishing. That's my favorite time of year to fish for them. The big bruisers are plentiful. Some of the real good spots are Anchor Bay (my backyard), Metro Beach, Grassy Island, the Spillway, Strawberry Island, the Dumping Grounds. If you come in May, you'll be catching Walleye, Pike, and Muskies also. It's a great time to be fishing St. Clair. If you have any questions P.M. me. Falcon
  16. It's no better here in S.E. Michigan. It's 29 degrees with 20 m.p.h. wind with gusts to 32 m.p.h. The tigers game was just postponed because of bad weather. What the heck happened? Tuesday I was catching bass in my canal. Today I'm wrapped up like an eskimo.......... I guess that's spring in Michigan. I need a vacation!!! Falcon
  17. I use Columbia raingear and it is great. My only problem is I got pants instead of bibs. What ever brand you decide to get make sure you get bibs. Falcon
  18. The guy at the reel counter told me that Browning makes alot of BPS reels. I have to agree with him because, I bought one of the Citori combos for my grandson that BPS had on sale at Thanksgiving. When I went to register it at Browningfishing.com it went to the BPS site. If you look at the Citori and alot of the BPS reels they look identical. Falcon
  19. I use 12# Trilene XL on all my baitcasting rigs except one. I'm trying 30# braid on one of my rigs. I haven't used braided line since using braided dacron years ago. All my spinning reels have 6# Trilene XL. Falcon
  20. Hey, I've got one of those.........no wait it's six, but who's counting. Auto accidents aren't fun. Be patient and do what the doc says. You'll be fishing before you know it. Good luck, Falcon
  21. Sign me up. We'll be more popular then the "Bassmasters Elite Pros". Everybody can have a dream can't they? Falcon
  22. What a beautiful family photo. Glad to hear everyone is healthy. Does Korynn have her own rod and reel yet? Now enjoy the next twenty years, because they will fly by. Falcon
  23. I leave the split ring on. However, I have one Rat-L-Trap that swims on it's side if I use a snap on the split ring. Tying directly to the split ring it swims fine........go figure. Falcon
  24. I've always used Gamakatsu hooks, but I did pick up some VMC EWG's a while back. They seem pretty good, but I'll have a better opinion after I fish them this season. Falcon
  25. Hey GMAN, You can always wait a few more weeks and come back to St. Clair to cure your woes. I'd say come now, but our weather just tanked. We went from low 70's to upper thirties with snow flurries. Be patient my friend, we all go through those times. Falcon
