  1. All these things sound bad. You have any experience with Crucial and /or the Cumara?
  2. The one I bought is red. It should be here tomorrow. I bought it on reputation. What makes the Cumara Gen 2 so good . If they were so good, why were they discontinued?
  3. Can anyone tell me the difference between the Crucial and Cumara rod blanks? Crucial is IM 10 blank and the newer Cumara is HM1. I bought a few rods on Ebay. Everything I've researched and read says the Cumara is a better blank. i'm just curious what actually makes them better.Lighter? Stronger? Crucial's feel really nice but have had them on the water yet.Still waiting for the Cumara to arrive so I haven't actually felt it yet. When they get here I give them both a test run.
  4. Ok I figured some stuff out. I wasn't looking in the didn't win section. BUT yesterday I was bidding on some jigheads that I like. I watched it to the end. The last 5 min the screen said i had the highest bid. Time runs out. Screen says you've been outbid. By .50 cents. I looked in the bid section and it said with 3 minutes left someone else out bid me. Why didn't the screen change and tell me that I was out bid. I would've bid a little higher. I should've increase my max bid but I thought I had it. Is there some sort of time lapse when your bidding?
  5. will do thanks
  6. I'm trying to figure this E-bay stuff out. My favorite jig head color is being discontinued. I found some on E- bay. I had the highest bid. It disappeared. I couldn't find a record of it anywhere. It didn't say you were out bid, you were the highest bidder, nothing zippo. It was like I hadn't even bid on it or it was even ever out there for bid. I figured it was me or something. Anyway I bid on some other stuff. some I won and some I didn't. I looked back and some of the same jigs were for sale but a different color that i also like. Still a good deal so I bid again. I've been the highest bidder for the last 3 days. I checked before i went fishing tonite and I was highest bidder. I come back from fishing and it's gone again! Same seller. Can't figure this out. Was there a minimum bid and he pulled it? I've had a lot of luck on those jig head colors and they are both discontinued this year.
  7. what kind of knot are you tying? line to lure? braid to fluro? i can help you as can many others on here. you'll get a lot of answers but i'll give you the basics. Are you tying braid to lure or mono to lure or fluro to lure. I suspect I know the answer already.
  8. How does it compare to their Tufline XP?
  9. That's 3 votes yes. That's make me feel good. I put a bid in on one on E-bay. I really wanted to put one in my hands but that's not possible where I live. I have to drive 3 hrs to find a good selection of rods. Any more opinions?
  10. I need a a replacement rod. I'm going in a different direction. Old rod was a Big Box store brand mostly for warranty reasons. The intended use for the rod will be mostly soft plastic like tubes and swimbaits. I have a 6'8 Mediam XF BPS Johnny Morris Signature Carbon coil which comes w/ micro guides. I love it for certain applications. I'm looking for a similar rod in 7'2" w/ standard size guides. I've been looking at the Shimano Crucial Spinning rod series. I never have held one but the reviews I've read are good but it seems they are from the older design. I'm growing REALLY fond of the split grip of my CarbonCoil. It seems like I can feel the bite better since my fingers are on the blank. The Crucial appears to have everything I'm looking for. I would really like to hold one but that's not an option where I live. Any opinions! They would greatly be appreciated.
  11. They do make a swimbait head I found out. No regular jig heads or tube bait heads. I wonder if they hold the patent on this design.
  12. Bingo! Do they make just the jig head? Want to use something like that for tubes and swimbaits. . I was looking for a weedguard that will stay in place but be very flexible.
  13. Not quite. How well do these work? I've seen these before. Never tried them. They would keep me from buying more jigheads. I want make my tube jigs and swimbaits weedless. Picture one fiber molded into the head. It comes out past the barb. There's a keeper made of some type of tubing right behind the barb. The fiber is inserted into the tubing. i've seen them several times. In fact i just saw them on Bassmaster. I just don't know who makes them.. Right now though i need to finish my coffee and get on the water. i'll check back in later. Tight Lines
  14. I'm looking for a specific type of jig head that I saw. Don't know who makes them but I can describe them. Standard jighead w/ a single plastic weedguard. it's kinda long and goes past the hook. On the hook, behind the barb is a pc of tubing. the weedguard is inserted into the tubing. Weed guard collapses when you set the hook. Who makes them? Can't find them on the web. thanks in advance
  15. Lucky craft is just as good. So is anything from Rapala and/or Strike King. Lot's of northern around where I fish. Have one take a 25$ lure and you'll regret throwing it! I bought a bunch of LC's this spring from Cabela's for 4.99 and 6.99. normally they are $16. 2nd time I've seen this sale. Save your money and wait for the sale.
  16. Congrats to KVD for coming from behind and winning at Cayuga Lake, NY. 2nd win this year, 22nd of his career. He had to work hard for this one. Coming back from 2 lbs down on a day when the lake wasn't giving up any big bags to any of the competitors. His 15lb 7oz bag was enough to beat Jordan Lee by a pound. Next up the Bassmaster Classic Bracket. This is a new one on me but we'll see. Kinda of a Bassmaster meets MLF style tournement. Anyone want to guess who the early favorite is?
  17. Maggie, I have had it or have it in both elbows. At times it was excruciating! 2 years ago, after an AMAZING weekend of fishing for pike I couldn't hold a coffee cup the next day. To hold the rod I just cupped it and reeled. Couldn't hold the rod. Right elbow was killing me! I kept going because the fishing was on FIRE! So was my elbow. Rest was the best solution. Ice and heat helped. Also stretches help. I got a list of stretches from a physical therapist that I deliver to. Start by pulling down on your hand w/ your arm straight and out in front of you. You should feel your forearms to stretch. I usually pull down on each finger individually because the stretch is slightly different. Rest and blood flow is what heals it. So when whenever possible reduce the stress on your grip. I now have it in the other elbow. I'm a UPS driver. Holding the wheel all day and carrying pkgs all day doesn't help. It's not so bad now but last year I couldn't pull my bow back. In both cases what I found to be the best was rest. I've changed the way I hold the steering wheel and carry packages. Basically I try not to grip anything hard . I don'r carry anything over 30lbs. Anything heavier goes on the dolly. Push ups help as well. From your knees not your toes. You want lots of reps to increase the blood flow. 3 sets of 20 or 30 really get the arms pumped and seem to help w/ the pain. i never got the shot but thought about it. I've heard mixed things about the long term damage caused by cortisone injections. Some good, some not so good so the shot was my last option if nothing else worked. So far i haven't needed one. Hope the helps.
  18. Your bass have already spawned. Look for rock piles or submerged rocks. Sometimes they just won't hit tubes worth a dang. You can go back 2 days later and catch them on tubes! On a recent trip, a 4" green pumpkin curly tail was the trick. my partner is a tube master and I out fished him 3 to 1. Another day I had one spit up a cisco. I started throwing white swimbaits and killed them. Sometimes your not around the fish and sometimes your around them and your not throwing the right bait. Other days it doesn't matter. They're just hungry. Those are the good days. Keep looking and experimenting. Find out what the dominant baitfish is. Match the hatch. Don't forget about throwing senko type worms. They seem to work everywhere.
  19. I figured the smallies would bite at night. Just never tried. I'm not about to mess around on the river at night w/ my kayak and since i don't like snakes especially rattler's i don't think I'm gonna mess around w/ hiking down the river at night. That leaves Fort Peck! I just came from there and one morning had a good topwater bite going for northerns and smallies. In my experience the best nite bite has been when it's hot so i started thinking that maybe I should go back in August since i have a week off then. So back to my pike question. Is it a just after dark kinda bite or all through the night bite. I did some research and what i find is that the general consensus is that for the most part they are not night feeders since they feed mostly by sight. Spinnerbait makes sense. They can here it and feel it. Ever catch one on a topwater at night? Generally I throw 2 or 3 baits, a Colorado blade spinnerbait, a buzzbait and/or a walk the dog type bait. The fish are usually bigger and i just love the explosions. A lot of the times your fishing by sound so you really have to pay attention.
  20. AJ, I like the write up. As a kid and a young man I did a lot of LMB fishing at night in a canoe in the private lakes near my house. My absolute favorite way to fish. The fishing's good, the peace n' quiet is refreshing and you have the whole place to yourself!. So let me ask you a dumb question that I think I already know the answer to. How bout the smallies? Didn't have them where I grew up but out here they are in the river and some of the reservoirs. I've never river bass fished before but may try it. Very challenging walking in the daylight so night fishing may be dangerous but it can be done in certain places. Then you add the rattlesnake factor. Maybe not such a good idea. However, I recently bought a boat and have a world class SMB fishery 4 1/2 hrs away. I also have a week off in August so the conditions may be right for some night time smallie fishing! Also here is another question that I have no idea about. We didn't have many Pike back home but we had pickeral. I don't recall ever catching a single pickeral at night. Do Pike bite at night? The reservoir I'm going to has some MONSTER Pike. 40-50"s They are so aggressive during the day that can't imagine there isn't a night bite for pike but as I said before I spent a lot of nights on the water when I was younger and can't recall ever catching a pickeral. Pike and pickeral are related so I don't if the same is true for them. How awesome would it be to be walking the dog, listening for the explosion, setting the hook on a 20lb Pike although a 5-6lb smallie would just fine by me! Tight Lines!
  21. Closed golf courses have some of the best fishing! I used sneak into them at night as a kid and throw topwaters.
  22. I just came back from there. Had my best 5 fish limit. 19 lbs. I've talked to several people who know the lake well. Most believe there are 8-9lb'rs in the lake. I also heard from a reliable angler, that one was released back last year that was over 7 along w/ a 6.5 in the same day. I don't think this new record will hold up. The food source is too good. On my recent trip, 3-4lb'rs were spitting up 4-6" cisco. All the northern states around us are breaking state records and I think the trend will continue. Still a great fish though so congrats to the angler.
  23. As a MT smallmouth bass addict, I'm envious. Heck of a fish! I expected the new state record to be caught in Fort Peck. She swims there. The Flathead has been a sleeper spot for a few years now so It doesn't surprise me. This will put the Flathead on the map.
  24. Primetime, thanks for the tips. At BPS prices, plus shipping it's like 45-47cents a pc! .05 -.10 is way more realistic and affordable! The Ebay guy is only selling 3" as far as I can tell but Barlows,Hagens,GYB and Locket. Leaving tomorrow so I won't get them in time but the river here is heating up nicely. They'll be biting on the Mighty Mo when I get back. Tight Lines!
