  1. Don't leave us hanging! How did you do yesterday?
  2. Thanks! Is the slender pointer still your favorite even if the largemouth are feeding on dying shad?
  3. Is the difference in action between the different lucky craft jerkbaits (i.e. flash pointer, pointer minnow, flash minnow 115mr, lightning pointer, etc.) that much, or is it mostly slightly different profiles? Which one is the best overall jerkbait? The only one I have tried is the pointer minnow and I loved it, but I lost that so I am looking to buy one or two more now.
  4. Has anybody had any on the water experience with the z-man big trd, tube-z, or the shroom-z jig?
  5. Thanks! Do you like it as much as the pointers and flash minnows?
  6. Congratulations! Now finish it up the way you did in the qualification tournament!
  7. Is the action on the lightning pointer similar to the regular pointers? And do any of you guys think its almost as good as the higher priced pointers?
  8. Have any of you guys tried the lightning pointer? It looks pretty close to the regular pointers for only 8.99, but is the action the same?
  9. That's probably a shad, but it might be a golden shiner.
  10. Thanks for the help! I tried what you suggested today for a little over an hour, and in that short time frame I caught three channel catfish. I found a hump that rises out of the channel that goes from 32 feet up to 8 feet, and the thermocline was at twelve feet. I had three set lines out baited with shad and punch bait, plus I had one rod baited with fresh bluegill. All three ate the one rod that I slowly reeled and paused across the bottom, something bluebasser86 posted about a year or two ago and mentioned here after I came back that he calls bass fishing for catfish. Since I saw his post it has been my main producer of cats, so thanks for tipping me off to that trick bluebasser86!
  11. Z-man finesse wormz, but the trick worm is also an awesome shaky head bait.
  12. Are they normally on the bottom in deep water, or are they suspended above the thermocline? And how do you distinguish between catfish and other species? My sonar unit is a cheapo sixty dollar thing from Wal-Mart.
  13. I know that it's not from Amazon, but fishing factory outlet has the 7' medium power, fast action Berkley lightning rod for only eighteen dollars right now.
  14. Thank you for the reply. How do you target them?
  15. I would also highly recommend the pfluegar president, I have used the cardinal before but it's not that great. My cardinal only lasted one year and the drag was kind of jerky, compared to my presidents which have the drag of a 100 dollar reel and have been under heavy use and abuse for six years and counting of fishing almost daily. Most rod and reels will work when paired up, the president and gx2 included. I would recommend also considering the Berkley lightning rod, it is a very good budget rod for the money. Another thing you could do is if you can wait a little while, around November fishing factory outlet starts getting all of this year's rod models in and sells them at 40% or more off. Last year I picked up a villain for fifty bucks instead of the retail price of two hundred, simply because it was last year's model!
  16. Do you guys have any idea where to fish for channel cats in 84 degree water? My lake is a small, old and silted in flatland type resivoire with a maximum depth of about 35 feet with one main river channel. The shorelines are largely covered with docks and a good percentage of the lake has thick weeds, clarity is about two and a half feet. They finished spawning a little under a month ago but I have lost track of them since then, I have tried several times to catch them but haven't caught any. There is a strong year class of twelve to fourteen pound fish, this makes up 90% of the catfish I have caught in the past. Where do you thank they are, and what should I use to catch them?
  17. I would recommend getting a spinning set up instead, they will cast much farther, have faster gear ratios, and have a smoother drag.
  18. Thanks for the help. Fished this morning for three hours. Caught six fish on the popping frog skipped under overhanging brush, not many but every one was over fifteen inches. The sinker on the bottom of my frog fell out, I was able to get it somewhat balanced with a glued in split shot but is there any better way to improvise one or a way to keep it from falling out in the future? I have had this problem with every pad crasher I have owned, so I am going to try ish's phat frog to see if it lasts longer.
  19. Just over five pounds won the tournament last Sunday, and big bass was only two pounds. The bass completely shut down for the tourney day, before getting back to normal the day after.
  20. Hire a neighbor kid to shoot the little buggers with a BB gun, preferably one that you only have to pump every three to five shots. Offer a quarter or fifty cents per killed mouse and you will have a dedicated mouse killer.
  21. What is your guys favorite color of ish's phat frog?
  22. Fished this morning from 6:30 till 11:30. I tried fishing an offshore hump that comes out of 28 feet of water in the channel and tops out at 8, but didn't catch a single bass. Interestingly I caught a handful of big bluegill, they somehow managed to get the hook on my Carolina rig. I finally gave up and started fishing in my usual areas with about an hour of time left. Only caught five bass with two over fifteen inches, all on the junior pad crasher skipped under docks on points.
  23. I guess it thought I was mentioning the number after twelve brand when I tried to write the number after twelve fish. BTW, I haven't seen you write any reports in the last few months.
  24. I tried night fishing a few days ago. I tore them up from 8:30 to 10 pm., with 13 bass caught on a frog, whopper plopper, and a senko with nine over fifteen inches all on points. My best five weighed twelve pounds with big bass weighing 3.8. Sounds pretty good, but I didn't catch a single fish from 10 till 2 am. I don't know what I was doing wrong, I tried noisy topwater, subtle plastics, spinnerbaits, deeper, shallower, etc. Do you guys have any idea as to what I should do when the bite shuts down when the sun sets?
