Thanks for the help! I ended up ordering the seven foot mh fast action vigilante like you guys suggested. I will try to remember to come back in a week or two to tell you guys how I like it.

My frogging rod just broke yesterday, so I am in the market for a new one. FFO has a seven foot medium heavy fast vigilante for a good price, and abu rods usually run stiffer than rated. So my question is, will this rod work for frogs?

Its gota be the time I hooked a 38 pound carp on eight pound line from a tube. I could see she was up shallow spawning, so I threw my ned rig right in front of her. It picked it up as soon as it hit the bottom and took off running. It didn't get me rapped around anything (thank God) but I was in a tube without a net, so the carp towed me around for quit a while. I don't know how long it took before I finally grabbed her by the gills and lifted it into the float tube, but I would guess 20 minutes at least. It was more than enough time for several people on the shore line and half a dozen boats to stop and watch the fight.

A largemouth hooked in 33 degree water caught on a large jerkbait with three treble hooks. In that cold of water they pretty much are paralyzed from the shock of three treble hooks being set into there mouth and being horsed in. But in normal conditions, my vote would go to the walleye as being the weakest fighting fish.

I would suggest either mono or braid for topwater, floating lines tend to keep the nose of the bait from tilting down. I use straight braid for most topwaters that are moved almost constantly, including the whopper plopper. The only time I use a leader on topwater is when using spooks or pop-r's, and that's only because braid is so limp it tends to get tangled in the treble hooks.

Sorry I haven't posted on here in while, mostly because I've been to busy fishing.. Bass are still on a great topwater bite, namely frogs and the whopper plopper. The bass are on main lake points and weed beds in eight to twelve feet of water, but when the sun gets higher I move to main lake docks. I start out in the morning throwing a whopper plopper, and later on switch to skipping frogs underneath docks and flipping deep weed beds. Anyway, today I was skipping docks on main lake points with a popping pad crasher when I caught my pb frog fish that measured 22 inches and 5.34 pounds! I haven't caught one that big since the pre-spawn period. It was under this tiny 2 foot by six foot old dock on a point in seven feet of water, not exactly a great looking dock. Seeing big bass come up to the surface and smash my frog is an adrenaline rush, I don't know why I didn't throw topwater much last year.

Do large frogs such as the king daddy have much for improvement on the size of fish, or do they just make it harder to set the hook?

This story doesn't add up at all. I mean really, why would you bury a rod in your neighbors yard underneath "moss and stones" that are going to damage or break your rod. And most people are going to notice a seven foot long strip of ground where something was buried, unless you found a "lite" seven foot long stone to cover it with, so if it really was stolen it could be someone else.

I usually slowly wake it on the the surface or right beneath it, stopping every few feet and letting it sit still for up to ten seconds. The bites almost always come on the pause, so make sure to include a good number of them in your retrieve.

Don't be afraid of the size, I have had many twelve inch bass eat my bbz-1 rat and a few fish that were even smaller. Bigger baits just mean a bigger meal, and that appeals to all sizes of fish. Plus it doesn't get much easier to catch than a protein rich rodent struggling to swim.

I have the 130 size "whopper" plopper. I have only had it for a couple weeks and so far I have been very impressed, and not just for big ones. I have found that it actually catches more numbers than a regular buzzbait, while still getting some good sized fish mixed in. Since getting it has almost completely replaced Buzzbaits spot for me, in conditions where I would pick up a buzzbait I instead grab the whopper plopper. I use it on a 6'8" medium heavy power, moderate fast action rod spooled with monofiliment line. Usually the fish want a slow and straight retrieve, and since it floats I like to stop it next to cover like dock posts. It also has a much higher hooking percentage than Buzzbaits, for me it is in the 90% range.

Nope. Now that basspro owns cabelas they will have less competition, so there already crazy prices will likely go even higher. Luckily for us there is still tackle warehouse, but I am going to miss Cabela's bargain cave.

Decent cheap frog?

The fish are still on a hot frog bite. Been catching about 35 a day and fishing seven days a week. In the morning I throw the frogs over matted surface weeds and later on switch to skipping them under main lake docks. On Saturday I entered into a small tourney and took second place and a small check skipping a junior pad crasher and using a wacky rigged senko as a follow up bait. Frusterating part is we only lost by half a pound, and I hooked a kicker that looked to be 3-4 pounds that would have won it. The rule sheet stated that we could keep any size of bass with no limit on numbers, so we pre fished for numbers throwing the ned rig. On the tournament morning we were told that they changed the rule so we could only keep five bass, so we had to learn on the fly where the size was and what they are biting. Luckily I already knew they were on frogs, but I didn't know were they were or what my partner should throw now that we had to target better size. We started out the tournament fishing thick surface grass on main lake points, picking up two good fish in the first fifteen minutes on the senko. Then the bite shut down on the grass, so we started skipping docks with the pad crasher and only managed two more good ones over the next few hours. While driving back to the weigh in with only four decent fish and a little 1 pounder in the livewell we decided to make a few casts at a spot on the way back. Second cast and I hooked a solid fish on the pad crasher, which ended up putting us over third place into second. Sure glad we made that one last stop and got second,

I just can't afford to spend 20 dollars a week on frogs on a regular basis, Although right now I have a little extra from a second place finish in a small local tourney.

Lately I've been throwing the junior pad crasher, and they may not be the best but they were good enough for a second place finish yesterday and a small check. How do you know the link is the pad crashers, I didn't see that in the description? If they are than that is definitely something I am going to get a few packs of. Is there anyway to make the skirts last longer? I usually run out of them within the first 25 bass, but they still work, just not quite as well.

Lately I've been on a good frog bite, Problem is I fish daily so my frog usually gets torn to shreds within two days or about 70 bass . So what is the most durable frog, or is that all I should be able to get out of them? (I mostly use the pad crashers)

Can you use a regular buzzbait/spinnerbait trailer hook, or do you have to buy ones made specifically for that?

And sometimes the fisherman. I have very limited experience with frogs, but if I am missing to many bites down sizing often helps them get the whole thing in there mouth. Before ever using a frog the first thing I do is trim the skirts up about an inch, and bend the hooks up and out a little so they aren't angled into the bait. But even with these two modifications my hook up ratio is only about 70%
