Either eight or five pound braid will work great for ned rigs. I slightly prefer five or six pound braid over eight, but eight pound is much easier to find. Yep, I use 10 pound braid with both wacky and texas rigged senkos without any problems.

I mostly use braid, but for crankbaits/spinnerbaits I prefer mono because the stretch helps to keep the hooks from ripping out and my setting the hook to soon. I don't think fish can see or at least don't care about braided line in most conditions, but there are many who disagree with me. My advice to determine weather it matters for you is to tie a mono or fluorocarbon leader (using the alberto knot) next time you go fishing. Once you start catching fish cut the leader off and fish with straight braid, if your catch rate decreases then you know that you should use a leader and if it stays the same you know that the fish don't care in those conditions with that bait. I will warn you that when using walking baits or jerkbaits the braided line will get tangled around the treble hooks because of its limpness, so I prefer to use at least a short leader with them. As for your question about what pound test to use it depends on what lures and how thick of cover you plan on fishing in. A few examples are with a ned rig you want to use 6-10 pound braid, a frog a minimum of about fifty (with spinning gear I will drop it to 20-30 pound test when using junior sized frogs), and so on. If I had to pick three I would pick 8 pound test for my spinning rod, 20 pound and 50-60 pound test. If you can tell us what lures you are planning on fishing and what kind of cover you fish in I will tell you what i would recommend. I really don't think color matters that much, but I usually use green with the occasional bright color such as blaze orange. By diameter braid is far stronger than mono. I also usually find it is as much as twice as strong as its advertised rating when I test it. If you do not have confidence in braid do not use it. Many people do very well using almost solely mono, Including @Catt.

The way trevor seimen performed under pressure last night was impressive, glad the broncos were able to pull out a win after all of the hoopla about the game. I bet no one's more gratefull for the missed field goal than chris harris jr., since his foul essentially kept that drive alive.

Did pretty well this morning between 7:15 and 12:15. Caught a total of 26 bass, with nine over fifteen inches long and the best five weighing 14.7 pounds and biggest weighing 3.8. All of them were caught on the junior pad crasher fished at a quick walking retrieve with hardly any pauses. Most of the bass were caught on main lake shorelines in roughly 6-8 feet of water, but after 10:30 or so they moved underneath the adjacent docks.

I think I've spent way more money than I have saved thanks to this thread.

I fish a couple tournaments every year out of my little boat, but not as much as I would like since the tournaments at my lake are so expensive and I no longer have a partner.

Welcome to the forums! BTW, I fish out of a very old and used fourteen foot modified v-hull rigged with a trolling motor and a small outboard and do just fine, you don't need a shiny ranger bass boat to catch bass.

Wacky/Texas rigged senko, frog, ned rig, and a lot of people like jigs but I am not one of them. I haven't had any problem with hooksets with jigs, I just haven't got the numbers or quality I would like with them but it is probably just operator error.

The fish are definitely starting to transition into the early fall movements now with the water temperature in the upper 70s. When its calm and sunny I've been catching them on frogs skipped under main lake docks. When the wind kicks up I switch to squarebill crankbaits and jerkbaits fished quickly over top of grass on the down wind side of the lake. This pattern really gets good when the wind blows the same direction for a few days in a row with at least ten or twelve mile an hour winds concentrating the shad.

Use the ned rig, no matter what the tourney guys were throwing you can fish behind them very effectively with a ned rig.

Walk it by giving it light twitches on slack line, kind of like tapping a drum. Experiment with different cadences of twitches. Usually every few feet I like to pause it, but some days they like a long pause every few inches and others none at all. One good tip for when you are fishing over thick slop is to bomb it up in the air as high as you can, then letting it plummet back to the slop. Then wait for ten plus seconds before beginning your retrieve. The first thing I do when I take it out of the package is trim the skirt so its length is equal to the length of the frog, and some frogs require it to be shortened more. Something else I like to do is bend the hook points up and out a little bit, this ups your hooking percentage considerably and it isn't enough to be able to snag anything.

Thanks A-jay and 1201vilblog! I ordered the #4 and #2 kvd 2 times short one times strong treble hooks (the #4s in the big pack) to replace the hooks on my 1.5 (plus some more colors I bought, the landing ratio wasn't great with stock hooks) and the kvd jerkbait I just ordered.

Yep, that was the hook I was planning on replacing them with from your advice on jerkbait hooks.

I found a kvd 1.5 squarebill, but the hooks are rusted out so I am going to replace them. But I couldn't figure out what size of hooks they come with, tw doesn't say. Does any of you guys know what size hooks they come with?

How many people have found the megabass vision 110 to be much more effective than lucky craft jerkbaits?

Just so you guys know the lucky craft baits are still on sale even though the tw sale banner says they aren't.

Thanks, i'll have to try using a loop knot next time I want a more aggressive action on a jerkbait. I usually throw jerkbaits on a medium powered fast action rod spooled with ten pound braid and a short ten to twelve pound leader.
