  1. I don't fish in the rivers for them, but do in a reservior here. (the pumpback) I use finesse worms on jigheads, grubs, jerkbaits BEFORE sun-up, and bitsy jigs. I also use yo-zuri and p-line line in 8-10lb range, only because the pumpback is ROCKY..... pinks/greens (pumpkin) and browns all seem to produce for me. smallmouth also eat 65% crayfish, so jigs, hula grubs (and singles) "resemble" crayfish.
  2. I regularly catch big fish on jigs and big worms. (5lbs up) With that being said, I fish alot more than most too, and OWN matt's swimbaits. I also agree with Matt's post. There is only ONE reason I have not thrown my baby bass lures often....I don't want to loose them. I have caught however nice fish off his lures, even a 2 lb bass EXPLODED on one, so they will catch 'smaller' fish too. If I had the money to afford to loose them often, Matt/gang/etc I can swear to you, I would throw these solely as well.
  3. Yes I mean different spawns, not the same bass' spawning....
  4. Jim speaks good sense, so does George. All I do know is, I think we will never fully know what our friends really do, and 90% of the time, why.... A more interesting note would be someone actually witnessing a spawn.
  5. Welcome to the club. I say 3.5-4
  6. I agree RW. It sure looks like it to me, that she was making a bed. :-/
  7. I did manage to catch one smallie saturday. Then the sun got up.... :'(
  8. Ok bass pros....I am thoroughly confused. I have heard perch/sunnies/bluegills (whatever you want to call them) spawn twice a year. I have also heard bass do not. Can someone please explain to me then, why this bass' tail was all bloody like she had been making a bed? Does anyone know 100% if bass do spawn once, or 100% bass spawn more than once. If they spawn twice, then based on this picture of my buddies bass caught saturday, we have two bed seasons! http://mighty-hero.panicnow.net/Fish/Lawsons_Toad.jpg Thanks
  9. Bass in general have a very short digestional period..they eat it, very soon it comes out the other end so to speak.
  10. And LBH most of them repeat....very annoying.
  11. No difference ;D I was going to buy some, this one bait shop use to have some monster ones, but he said yesterday the local ponds are all dried up (where he buys them from.) Man I love eating them too, I can remember being real young and my uncle would have boils and serve them with veggies! The net idea is a great idea, but I really don't want to have to buy a net, or have my buddy help me catch them (he is new to bass fishing, part of the reason I am showing him to use live bait.) Chicken liver and pork is the same in my house, this is much easier for me to use....the wife won't notice I bet Thanks alot guys, I appreciate it.
  12. I love eating them as well.
  13. Are you all seeing crayfish moving around right now? I am going smallmouth fishing this weekend, and want to use both live and artificials. When I was a boy we could catch crawdads with raw pork tied onto a string, and bring them in....is this still a good way of catching them? Any other tips for catching that works better for you, etc? Keeping them all day, is it okay without a pump, or do I need to drain/redrain water? Fishing the crayfish....do you all fish them weightless on an 1/0 hook, or bobbers etc? Thanks
  14. I say try out some more stripers. You have already amassed a huge group of teens, try a new species and do the same thing
  15. Around here, one more month and it will be on for sure. With that being said however, in the morning I am seeing the smaller bass busting the shad up!
  16. Turn over.......the question.......heck yes!!!! Frogs baby. See links, same type of conditions. http://mighty-hero.panicnow.net/Fish/7.5lber.JPG grass with the fish inside it!! http://mighty-hero.panicnow.net/Fish/7.5lber_Grass_1.JPG http://mighty-hero.panicnow.net/Fish/6lber.JPG notice the same type muck? These fish were from the same day... Good luck.
  17. Meant to add something, sorry: To catch the bigger fish, throw bigger baits. jigs, longer worms, etc.
  18. Where those smaller grass fish are, back off and fish the secondary break of that grass. (meant think of the grass as the bank, there is another area in front of that grass where it drops off again.) Also in the creek bends, where there is some type of ambush spots, try those out too. If you can find a creek that has rip rap at the mouth of it, or along the wall, this should be a good spot too.
  19. Thanks RW. I kind of thought they did, but when fishing for smallies, I have never really fished in the dark per se, it was always sun is coming up or already up.
  20. If I know I got in a good hook set, I let them jump too. To keep them from jumping, stick your rod tip in the water and keep line tight.
  21. I know smallmouth's like feeding in low light conditions, but what about dark dark? The sun is coming up now around 7:00am. We have a full or new moon (can't remember) friday and saturday. (Also showed great times to go fishing from the solunar table.) If I were to go fishing say at 5am (on the water that is) do you think my chances would be good with poppers/jigs/hula grubs etc? I don't have a boat, so it would be fishing from the bank. Last fall I caught a nice smallie from the bank but it was later into fall....it was also right at sun up, not dark. I also have some cat eyes I use on my hat. This particular place is very deep from the bank, super clear water, I would beat the crowd, and then once the sun got up, I could drive shortly to another lake to day fish for largemouth's. Please give me your thoughts. Thanks
  22. Hey Glenn, I didn't know we had a fishing wall here? That's cool!! Can we post pictures here, and you add them, or do we have to send them actually to you, with a description etc? For those wondering: http://www.bassresource.com/fishingpictures/fishing_pictures.html Thanks
