  1. I have never heard of a #11 falling off a hook. The flat side of the bait is the skin side. There is a small hole at the front center to slide your hook thru. It is REALLY difficult to get your hook back out of this hole on purpose much less happening by accident. Although old stock can deteriorate after opening I really don't think the skin side would become that soft. I was fortunate enough to hear of the plan to stop production of Uncle Josh pork and was able to buy up a lifetime supply. I have used pork for over 40 years and continue to have one hooked up everytime I go out....12 months out of the year. Over the years I have developed ways of keeping the bait moist and ways to remove for re-use. One #11 frog should last you an entire season...unless you break it off on a hawg. Good Luck
  2. I owned a Polarkraft back in the late 80's, early 90's. Great boat that served me well and caught me plenty of bass. Good Luck with yours!
  3. My experience with lure making kits is that they include stuff you'll never use. I've found it best to go to sites like Barlow's, Lurepartsonline, or Jann's Netcraft and hand pick your own according to your style.

Pretty much all my spinnerbaits are the R bend variety due to the fact that I believe I've lost several when the line became pinched in the twisted type. What type wire are you guys using? Are you concerned about pinched line? Or is it just me? Thanks

Anybody use these to drop shot? If so, how do you rig it and what hook? Thanks
  6. Navy brat here. I was born in a Naval hospital in Pensacola, FL. but moved before I was one. Lived in a lot of states before I remember my first one. Lived in Middletown, RI while my dad was stationed in NewFoundland. It was a very rural community and I was fortunate enough to have a pond in back of the house where I caught my first bass. There was also an old fashioned barn with an honest to goodness hayloft out back. Rabbit and pheasant hunting just about everywhere. It was an idealic place to grow up. Then my dad retired and we moved to Seattle and my life took a different turn. Reminds me of a line in an old Don Williams song...."there wasn't a place where I couldn't go, with a .22 rifle and a fishin' pole".
  7. I have been using Mister Twister Keeper hooks successfully for 25 years for just about everything plastics related. They have caught me hundreds (thousands?) of bass. I see no reason to change now.
  8. After the morning I had testing my new spinnerbait creations at a local lake.......I'd like to see a thesis on the effect on blade sizes and types on spinnerbait function. Sheeesh!
  9. Fishing from the bow of your boat, ideally, would you like to fish a shoreline left to right or right to left? Myself, I prefer left to right so I can side arm and roll cast without interference. How about you?
  10. As suggested in this forum, I have started using tear drop shaped split rings. Best of both worlds IMO.
  11. I feel your pain. My favorite color is the frog pattern....also no longer made. And it has to be the one with a textured finish, not smooth. They show up from time to time on Ebay and I grab them when I can. You just need to set your saved searches and have them email you with new listings. Good Luck! BTW, if you look at bass "plugs" through the ages, you'll find with very few exceptions that the most renown ones were made in a white/red head pattern. Just 'cause they stopped makin' 'em doesn't mean they won't still catch fish.

OK, so I just got done watching Zona catching big smallies on the St Lawrence. He says his rigging is "magical". He's tying 40# braid to a "big barrel swivel" and 15# FC using Strike King Caffeine Shad. So I guess it works for some guys.

I doubt that a professional bass fisherman would use a swivel to avoid learning to tie a knot. I would think it's more of a line twist issue.

I've seen quite a few videos lately in which pros are recommending the use of barrel swivels to join braid to mono/fluoro. How many of you guys are using swivels like this? One pro even suggested that a stainless swivel resembles a baitfish. Thanks
  15. There's a few over on Ebay. Type in Pop-r and scroll thru 'em.
  16. I like these D&M Piranha II's a lot. And they come with a matching trailer. They're kind of middle of the road at $8.99.
  17. Lots of good advise here. Let me just add that whatever you choose, please don't leave it in a gunrack to bake in the sun. Been there, done that.

What method are you guys using to tie-on? Direct? loop? split ring? snap (what brand)? Thanks
  20. Most of the lakes I fish locally are like fishing in a cereal bowl. Several years ago I made the 6 hour drive to the Snake River in the South Eastern portion of our state and loved it. Not only is it a world class smallmouth fishery but for the first time I was fishing ledges, current breaks, eddies, submerged foundations, creek channels, inside and outside bends. In other words I was fishing structure that I read about here daily.
