  1. Rapala Skitter Prop (The prop bait, not the popper) or like JDW said, the Spittin' Image.
  2. Can't say that I have tried them but they look sweet. Thanks for pointing them out. When I do get my hands on one I will let you know.
  3. Texas rigged salt and pepper grub. I can fish it almost any way imaginable, and it produces.
  4. Well thank God I don't have to worry about that one because I have the minnow and under the right conditions, it has brought some nice fish to the top. Remember, the worst attribute a fisherman can have is a closed mind. Sure, a lot of baits out there are crap, but you need to try them out for yourself to be sure.

There is a TON of good advice on this thread but I think your only real option is to pack up and move to Southern California. You'll never run into a toothy critter again
  6. Salt and Pepper Kalins grubs are one of the best out there. Yamamoto grubs are very good as well but you will notice that the tails have a tendency to depart the grub after a short bite :-/
  7. At Diamond Valley Lake in Southern California I have caught bass on Carolina rigs in 45+ feet and I have pulled spoon fish up off the bottom from 60+ feet. A needle is essential during these times to ensure the bass survive. Last month a buddy of mine caught a Bass that was 80 feet down at a lake in Ventura county. I know that bass love shallow cover but as long as there is food and oxygen, I think they will go anywhere in a lake.

Looks like there is some virgin water out there. I am planning a trip. Who's in? http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/opportunity_evidence_040229.html Maybe they should open an interplanetary section under the locations forum.
  9. Weather bug for me as well.
  10. I may sound like a dork but I don't think that there are any techniques that I don't like. If I had to pick one out I would say ripping a jerkbait. I love twitching but I don't like to rip em.
  11. Well, there goes my source for inexpensive baits. Once everyone gets their baits in and finds out how good they are they are going to be gone for sure. Looks like I'll have to go back to paying full price. By the way, their hula-grubs are great!
  12. If you fished the baits you already have, on the setup you have, I can't think of a reason you didn't build any confidence with cranks this last season. This next year, be sure to vary your retrieves on just about every cast. A change in pace whether it is a pause, a twitch, or just a short burst or drop of speed, is almost always necessary to get a fish to strike. In fact I was throwing a DT10 all morning on Sunday without a single bite until 11am. That bite didn't come until I got stuck in some submerged trees and yanked the bait off the snag. As soon as the bait stopped from the pull, wham! You are smart for keeping it simple with your colors, Normans are excellent baits, and your rod and real sound perfect, so just go out next year and give it hell. Jared
  13. Yeah, what BD said. The Owner is good but it is heavier than the Gammy. Depends on the fall rate you want, but almost any wide gap 4/0 should work. Use a low strech line and stick'em hard :]
  14. These baits came out back when Slug-o's became all the craze. It was supposed to be the hard bait version of a soft stick bait. I wouldn't say it is a great bait but it does have good action to it when worked properly. It is not supposed to be fished like a hard jerk bait. I have caught a few on the chrome and black one.
  15. A shaky head is a plastic bait, typically a worm, rigged Texas style on a jig head. You fish it how ever you want but many people leave it in one spot and shake it like you would a drop shot. You get a different action than a regular Texas rig due to the use of the jighead. They have heads that are specifically designed for it but you don't need them. Give it a shot, it works pretty well, but it isn't some great new technique like the drop shot was a few years back. It's just a worm on a jighead.
  16. Ledgebuster for sure but here are a couple of other baits that I like for deep slow rolling. http://www.***.com/descpageREVSPIN-RDRCS.html http://www.***.com/descpageSPNNICHOLS-N44MC.html Actually, you can retrieve the Revenge bait a little faster and it will stay down. Hope this helps.

Well it looks like everyone did a good job covering this. I just want to chime in with what works for me. I have had luck with Crippled Herrings, CC spoons, Hopkins, Kastmasters, Revenge, Megabait and Haddock spoons but the one bait that really shines for me is the new jigging spoon by War Eagle. Another thing to try that I didn't see anyone mention is the Rapala Ice Jig. My most productive color for any spoon I use is gold regardless of conditions. I think that when you drop a gold spoon down below a ball of bait, it stands out from the rest of the bait. Most importantly when you are spooning is to get yourself a needle and learn how to use it if you don't know already.

Yeah, exactly what whitemike said. That is how I fish all my jerkbaits whether it is a pointer, husky jerk, ripping minnow, or my new fav, the small X-rap. The olive color was a great bait for me this last year. Plus it doesn't run as deep as the pointer or husky jerk so it should be perfect for your small pond fishing.
  19. I use the smallie beaver as a jig trailer on hair jigs during the winter. It works pretty well.
  20. The Terminator Tungsten Series are by far my favorite blade when I need a smaller profile. http://www.terminatorstore.com/cgi-bin/shop/search.cgi?keywords=on&f=result_search.html&b=a&perpage=10&sortby=none&k=Custom+Tungsten+Series+Spinnerbaits The Bobby Barrack and the Skeet Reese produce very well for me.
