slonezp, I agrree that the Spot-Lock is not perfect. As with all GPS devices, it needs open sky to do its job, but I've not had a serious problem with it maintaining position in both wind and current, but the TM is working its butt off trying to keep me "anchored" when the wind is up. Best I can tell, under those conditions, it keeps me within a 20' radius. I suppose it all depends on the ratio between TM thrust and boat weight, vs a given set of wind/current conditions. Wow! Try to do the math on that one!

For those who have been using cable steer for years, the foot pedal is almost an extension of their bodies. Without looking, they know exactly which way the motor is pointed. When I got back into bass fishing after a twenty-year hiatus, I found that I simply could not adapt to unconscious use of the cable steer. Every time I was distracted by having to re-tie or whatever, I found myself going in circles or running into the bank. I finally gave up on the cable steer and bought the Terrova with the iPilot. It's the best move I ever made. Now, if I have to retie, I can set the TM to run a specific course while I'm busy, or I can select the Spot-Lock mode, which essentially anchors me. As for cable-steer responding faster? Probably, but that has never been an issue for me. I can easily navigate my way through a forest of stick-ups. Having a motor that turns faster would be only a marginal improvement under those circumstances.

If I followed the rules, this post should rightfully be listed in the Road Trip forum, but I wanted our general membership to know what a quality member we have among us. Pete-K committed to serve Bar-B-Que for our group of thirty early in the planning of the trip. Well, circumstances changed, and Pete was unable to attend the trip and fish with us. Undeterred, he stood by his promise. On Friday night, Pete and his wife Marilyn drove an hour and a half to the resort, served an absolutely delicious meal to thirty people, and then drove home again. Not counting the hours and hours of food preparation, Pete and Marilyn took at least twelve hours out of their lives just to serve a meal to a bunch of hungry fishermen/women. On behalf of all the lucky folks who were fortunate enough to eat that meal, you have our heart-felt thanks for "conduct above and beyond the call of duty." Thank you Pete and Marilyn!

Home safe and sound, and very tired. I had a great time, and as with all Road Trips, met new friends. It doesn't get any better than that. We had a total of thirty attendees. For one third of them it was their first Road Trip. Speaking for for Glen, Keri and the rest of the Mods, it was great to see so many new faces. We're glad you enjoyed yourselves and hope to see you all back next year. Now, this old man is going to bed.

Man, I thought I10 was bad, but that stretch of I40 between Little Rock and Memphis is the worst I've ever seen. Semi, after semi, after semi.

Luckily, I know of a way to go around the logjam, but it will take me about twelve hours to do so. I'm gonna turn off I40 and spend the night with family tomorrow in a teeming metropolis known as Wye, AR. When I get back on the road I will have completely circumvented the Conway area. I've always fantasized about being pulled over by a cop and have him ask me where I was headed. My response would be "Wye." The conversation would probably degenerate from there.

I told God I was leaving for the lake yesterday, so now, everything is in front of me.

It's our annual Road Trip fer cryin out loud! We're SUPPOSED to have crappy weather! When I go on one of these trips I pack three rain suits, a bathing suit, my arctic gear, and everything in between.

My leaders are generally about six feet long to start with. Obviously they get shorter as I re-tie. I usually use the Stren knot for leader to braid, but occasionally use the double Uni. I've had no problems with the knot going through the guides.

My Save Phace mask consists of a pair of sunglasses and a balaclava. They're pretty easy to store.

If I understand your question correctly, you are saying that you do not have a cranking battery for your Evinrude, but have a battery for your trolling motor. If you have the TM battery only, and have 80% reserve power at the end of the day, you will be OK with tying in the Garmin with the existing battery, although some people have experienced noise problems between the TM and the depth finder. On the other hand, if your Evindude has a cranking battery, by all means, hook up your Garmin to it.

I received my new "Loadons" today and have started the process of bolting them on. Here is my perspective. I'm no longer a young man, and have arthritis in my hands. I drive a tin boat, and trying to get that sucker centered on the bow roller can be a bear with any wind, and in Oklahoma there is ALWAYS wind. When putting the boat back on the trailer I want the bow on the roller. With my hands, the last thing I want to do is any cranking. I think this new product will be a godsend for me. I want to state that I have no affiliation with this company and it is not a sponsor of this site - yet.

Rather than have a blind draw on Wednesday, I will be doing what I can to pair/triple up boaters and non boaters through a show of hands. It's going to be a tight squeeze this year, so everyone needs to be prepared to fish three from each boat. For the remainder of the week we will hold a blind draw. This is an ideal time to get away from your "significant other" and fish with someone new each day, but it's not mandatory. As for the Saturday night entertainment, would anyone be interested in watching the world famous Ghoti, Dinky, and Long Mike belly-dance? In the interests of preserving modesty, we will be fully clad in our thong bathing suits.
