Eco Pro Tungsten Swing shad. They are about half the cost of the keitech's and IMO, are just as good, if not better in the warmer months (they have a slightly wider kick, but possibly not as soft so in cold water keitech still gets the nod for me). They also don't have as good of a color selection or size selection as the keitech's but I'm using a green pumpkin trailer for my swimjigs (bluegill imitation) like 90% of the time so for me it isn't an issue. They have 3.8 and 4.8.

I can probably get a 130 whopper plopper on the right rod out 50-60 yds but I'll take accuracy any day over distance

x2 on the Tatula HD200. I put one on my 795 and it pairs up very well. I spooled it with 20lb P-line PF.

I have the 795 and it will throw everything in that box. But if you decide to go to bigger stuff like 8" hudds and the like, the 806 will be the better choice. I also think the 400 sized reel will pair better on the 806.

I think this is about as good as you can get for a guess. The two things I'd also consider are major flows (river, rain) into the lake/pond like Gundog said, and also the size of the lake. Huge reservoirs may take weeks or months to get anywhere near the rising air temperatures.

Another vote for the Tatula series. Ebay seems to have frequent amazing deals on them so you should be able to get a nice deal.

@Bluebasser86, I see I am not the only one who had to give the Booyah a try. Just got mine in today with a bunch of terminal tackle I stocked up on. I am also not a fan of trokar hooks so we will see how they fish in practice.

If it fits in their mouth and isn't a rock they'll probably consider it as an option for food...I've seen bluegills literally eat rocks so I can't imagine bass are in a completely different league intelligence wise.

I have the HD for one of my swimbait setups (1-4oz treble baits) and it is really nice. It's not really that big I would use it on something like a frog or flipping rod for sure. Tatula 7'4" and Type R 100XS in my Ebay cart right now...I know I shouldn't but the whole combo whispering in my ear (haaaallllfff oooffffff) *Edit, I just realized I have a 100 dollar visa card leftover from something laying around. Yup, this is gonna happen. At least I already have line lol.

Don't tell the bait monkey lol, I'm a slight push away from replacing like 3 reels lol. There's nothing wrong with them I just like the CT more.

I fished western branch on saturday and was targeting the main creek channel where it swings up against shallow coves/flats. No idea if that was the right strategy for bass as I didn't catch any (using hair jigs, swim jigs crawled on the bottom, and blade baits), but I did manage to hook into a 9lb catfish on the blade bait. It provided at least a minute of hope that I had hooked a new PB lol.

I got mine for like 70 bucks last year. It's by far my favorite reel (granted I don't ever spend more than 200 on a reel). I'm wishing now I ordered 3 or 4 at that price.

I was in a Walmart once and they had a nice fancy display on rage craws...all to price them 75% off. I emptied the display lol. I think there were 12 in total.

Whatever you do I would recommend getting a rod that will do a certain thing well. If that certain thing is 1-3oz smaller treble lures like swaver 186, 7" slammers and stuff, then get it. You can always add to your arsenal. Where I think guys regret later on is they try to start out with a "jack of all trades" rod, and then when they realize they do want to throw the bigger baits they realize they really need to upgrade anyways, and their "jack of all trades" rod turns into 3 separate combos and ultimately gets sold or forgotten about. I'm still pretty new to swimbait fishing myself but if I could do it all over again I would have bought the 795 and then maybe gotten the 806 or 867 at a later point.

I think it depends what you plan on doing. If you want to fish stuff like bullshads a higher gear ratio can be good for burning it. But I'd say generally swimbaits are a slower game than other techniques (think crawling a hudd or that slow lazy meander of a glide bait) so 5 or 6 speed gear ratios are widely used a lot. That being said most reels guys use for swimbait fishing are a little bigger, and thus have larger diameter spools. So the IPT of a 6 speed on a 300 size swimbait reel might be the same as an 8 speed on a conventional reel. Really all it comes down to is how slow can you turn the reel without driving yourself insane. If that doesn't bother you I don't really think gear ratio is critical. If it does then look at a slower ratio reel.

The reason bass eat worms is the same reason guys catch bass on 12" trout lures in lakes not stocked with trout....it looks alive and it will fit in their mouth.

If you aren't going to be throwing the heavy jig hook baits then I'd recommend going that route. If you eventually find you want to throw the bigger hudds and the like, you can always get another setup that is better suited to that type of stuff. If you can helo it don't do what I did and try to find a middle ground setup...that you eventually replace with two different setups anyways down the road. Fair warning on the 795, the handle is a tad shorter than most swimbait rods. I like that but you might not, especially because I fish from a kayak most of the time and I find it also helps when twitching baits to have a shorter handle.

Yea I actually had the HEAVY Okuma Guide Select for stuff like that and I just never liked how it felt. So I got the Fury 795 to replace it and love it. I didn't push it past the S-waver 200 so far but that didn't feel like it was testing the rod at all even at 3+ oz, I feel like the 1-5oz rating is probably pretty accurate, but again I wouldn't throw 5oz jig hook baits like hudds. But Hudd 68's for sure. The main workload of my 795 will be 9" slammers, smaller (8" and under) triple trouts, and mattlures. I have heard from others though that XH Okuma feels like a completely different rod though and is great for hudds so don't let me discourage you.

Aw, dream a little, state record is 10-7 Pretty much the same case in MA though, our state record has almost no chance of being broken. Although I like to think the offshore structures of Wachusett might have a few surprises that have never even seen a lure. I have the 795 and I think it would be great for everything you said other than an 8" hudd. I think at that point you are pushing it's upper limit and like others said the 795 is better suited for treble hook baits IMO (It's great for S-wavers and the 200 is not too big for northern waters). I throw my jig hook baits on another rod (which I cannot name here).

I recently discovered the company and decided to order some. Haven't got them yet but I plan on using a 6/0 flipping hook and a punch weight, or using them as trailers on 1oz jigs.

That is a pretty good deal! Too bad the lowest I usually ever go is 15lb (plus I think I have a couple spools of 10lb smackdown BPS had on clearance a while back).
