  1. You over filled the spool and it will cause lots of issues. Strip some off and leave about 1/8 from edge.
  2. I tighten the cc knob just enough to take the play of the spool away.
  3. I barely even use spinning reels let alone a spincast. My wife uses them exclusively though.
  4. Sounds like a rotator cuff. Get it checked out. I had the same thing over the winter and did physical therapy and now doing much better.
  5. I say a Pflueger president for under $50 on ebay.
  6. If you t-rig the senkos you might have a hard time setting the hook and if you throw 5" senkos they will be pretty heavy for a ml rod. It sounds like you need a better rod in medium or even mh. I've heard good things about berkley lightening shocks. If you bumped up to $100, your options grow exponentially. There might be some sales for Father's day. Always look for sales.
  7. I use 50lb braid sometimes with and without a leader.
  8. An 1/8 Oz total weight is pretty light. IMO the reel is only part of the equation. The rod must be light enough in power to load in order to cast and lighter line is also important. I don't know what the rating is on the duckett. I've got a few casting combos capable but they ran me several hundred dollars. The easiest answer is spinning gear. If you're like me and prefer casting gear then you might need to up the budget just a little. What reel are you using now? You might be able to pick up a finesse spool for it. I have a curado 51e and was not too successful throwing 1/8oz on it until I picked up an avail shallow spool.
  9. Are you using braid? If so, you should use mono backing otherwise the line slips around the spool plus it saves expensive braid line.
  10. Braid without question. Mono has never crossed my mind for frogs.
  11. I wouldn't because I'm not a collector, but if it was truly something rare or special like a tdz aoi, td ito or ize personal order I could understand. But something that is so darn common makes me laugh.
  12. You broke the state record which is quite an accomplishment so congratulations! It's pretty cool that Sr Croix sent you a free $200 rod so kudos to them. I say you really deserve a special reel so I say you go with the certate. You already have a nice rod so spend the money for a nice reel. I'm sure you'll be blown away by the upgraded gear.
  13. I find braid to be quite user-friendly because it casts to we'll and back lashes pick out easily. I've never had to cut out a back lash with braid. Fluoro is a different story and if you're new then stay away from it. I've actually never used mono, but I've heard it is a good choice. Mono is cheap so it might be a good option, but I just prefer the sensitivity I get from braid.
  14. I don't 15 braid would be a problem. Just be careful breaking off snags. I use 10 an 15lb braid on my finesse spools.
  15. Lews tournament pro g, daiwa tatula CT type r, shimano curado 70 and curado I.
  16. Alphas sv is about the same size as the scorpion xt. The 7.2 gear model makes a great jerk bait/top water reel and it will even throw the little x rap 8's.
  17. Bearing count is not an indicator of quality. Shimano tends to have low bearing counts vs other brands, but they use higher quality bearings and put them in all the right places. That said, lews also makes some darn good reels and I would choose the lews lfs. I'd rather have a tatula or fuego over both.
  18. Yes, a few years ago I was throwing a pop r and had a world class backlash. My pop r was sitting in the middle of the pond when all of a sudden a 2lber explodes under it and engulfs it. It took me a few minutes the clear the backlash while the fish was going nuts.
  19. There is a cap on the front of the level wind that is probably loose. You can use flat head screw driver to tighten it.
  20. I've been staring at them for a week. In a moment of weakness, I just ordered one. Now I need another rod
  21. It depends on the type of cover you fish in. St Croix rods fish a little on the heavier side. In light cover I'd go with the medium and moderate cover I'd go with mh.
  22. That's a nice rod. I'd go with the shimano. It sounds like your going to spend some serious money and upgrade quite a bit.
  23. X2, the tatula is the one you want.
  24. Spinning combo: 6'6"-7' medium/fast. 2500 size lined with 20lb braid and 10 lb fluoro leader. Casting combo: 6'6"-7'' mh/fast. 6.XX gear ratio lined with 40lb braid and 14 lb fluoro leader.
