Shoulder pain/burning

Recommended Posts

Recently I've noticed after a while on the water, ranges on amount of time, I start getting a burning pain with a sharp pain at a point. It's near my shoulder, more more trap area/rear shoulder.Anyone have any ideas? I'm in shape, workout 4-5 days a week. Usually I just push through it, but I almost stopped fishing this morning because of it...almost lol.

I'd highly recommend that you seek professional medical help with this matter. It could end up being more serious that you think.

Being very familiar with different shoulder ailments, I would say not a rotator cuff.  That's more of a clicking/popping accompanied by pain.  Burning sensation along with sharp pain is often associated with muscle tears, which could easily happen with vigorous exercise.  Then again...

I had this same problem and most likely it's an impingement in the shoulder/trap/neck region.  See your doctor if it gets any worse

Hopefully it's nothing.....say the guy who has had 3 shoulder surgeries:)

See an orthopedic doc that specializes in shoulders. Then get a second opinion. Among other things, I tore my lower trap and rhomboid muscles off my shoulder blade in 2012 from a work injury. I had them reattached 6 months ago. This is not a common ailment and there is only one doctor in the country that performs the reattachment surgery. Only reason I brought it up is because you said you work out. Weight lifters are among those who have torn the muscles off their shoulder blades.

Prior to the injury I could fish for a week at a time. After the injury, 2-3 hours tops. After the scapular muscle reattachment surgery, I'm good for 5-6 hours.

After going to the doctors, if they still can't help you, I'll give you the number to the doctor who fixed me up(I'm still permanently disabled but I'm better than I was). He's located in KY. He developed and pioneered the surgery. I believe he's done roughly 300 scapular muscle reattachments over the last 15 years. After 2 surgeries, similar to you,

always keep ur elbows touching ur side. i've always had poor rotator cuffs so my shoulders instantly start hurting when my technique gets sloppy.  watch KVD at 1:30 and 3:06

I too get a burning sensation when i...

Whoops,  wrong forum.

I'd bet it's muscle tears if you've been working out 4 to 5 days a week.  Try icing it at night, use a towel around a bag of frozen peas or something of the sort.

You might also look into taking a multi vitamin and a vitamin called inflavonoid. I've been getting aches and pains lately and my old lady had me start taking these.  Literally in 3 days and me trying to drink more water I've felt 10x better.

The best choice is a MRI.

The reason I think it could be rotator cuff is the pain radiates just as the OP discribed it.

I was a gymnasts during high school and college, shoulders take a beating on the high bar and rings. My shoulders are held together with screws and Kevlar so know a thing or two about shoulder pain.

Take 3 Advils, the pain should be reduced, get it checked out before surgery is required to repair the damage.

Go get it looked at.  It could be any number of things causing the pain.

Sounds like a rotator cuff.  Get it checked out.  I had the same thing over the winter and did physical therapy and now doing much better.

I have basically the exact same problem.  I see a Dr. at 1:45 this afternoon.  My wife is worried that I might need surgery.  Why is she so worried?  Because if, for some reason, I wouldn't be able to fish for the rest of the summer and Fall, she may have to strangle me in my sleep.

I do a lot of roll casting. When I do that for 6-7 hours straight "one handed" I get a similar pain. I have to remind myself that I can do the same cast "two handed" (which results in no pain).

Reevaluate everything your doing including the workouts.  I would shorten the fishing trips, roll cast shorter distances, and watch the hook sets.  Then confer with a good orthopedic doctor.  Good luck.
