Upgrading my electronics
I fish out of an Old Town Salty PDL. I currently run a discontinued Garmin Echomap 54DV. I want to upgrade to another Garmin. I was thinking of getting Echomap 7 or 9 inch side scan. I want a side scan unit that is comparable with live scope. I’ve seen livescope first hand fishing with guides, it’s so friggin cool. The 7 inch is cheaper than the 9 inch. Is it worth getting a live scope on a kayak without spot lock. I want to keep it portable to keep it safe when not fishing. If I do fish on a boat I could bring it out with me too. But I want to start with the unit first with side scan. Then get the live scope later if I want to. or is 360 better. I’m new to electronics never had the money or a decent water craft until now.

The rivers will be cold and high from the rain we’ve had. Good job getting out there and getting it done!

How to find crappies in new water.
Good to know. I have a spot loaded with crappie with awesome standing timber . I want to break 2lbs I can’t wait to get out there and fish for em. Also has really big bass so I usually fish for bass and catch crappie accidentally This cove has great weeds. Best weeds in the whole place, good shallow brush too

How to find crappies in new water.
This spot is about the max size I like to fish. I fish out of a kayak! There’s a really nice shallow weedy cove I should try out in the spring

Bass VS Other species
That’s why I love fishing! Every species have their own quirks about them. I have 120 different species I’ve caught. From sharks and tuna to pond shiners. Tuna fishermen often use the shadow of their boat. Steelhead love cloudy cold weather and can be super line shy. Striped bass love horrible rough surf.

How to find crappies in new water.
So I’ve been wondering if there’s crappies in a spot of mine. Loads of big white and yellow perch. The pond next to it but not connected has crappies. The pond in question is 50 feet deep and 300 acres. Gin clear water sandy bottom. Some good weed beds, Rocks, and trees. The pond with crappies is 30 feet deep 76 acres and more weedy. Both of these ponds have no inlets or outlets, fed with ground water. I’ve fished the pond in question more than the other due to access. There is no fishery info on this pond. I also haven’t spent much time fishing for panfish in either ponds. I usually catch crappies as a by catch fishing for bass. If bass is slow then I switch up.

Incredible weekend trip to Ny. We fished Friday Saturday day and half day Sunday! I crossed of 3 new species off my bucket list! I caught a total of 7 different species. Broke my PB 6 times. Bunch of smallies! 3 walleyes. Caught a 4-10 on Friday, then a 5-13 28 inch on the last day. New PB. 3 drum, new species for me. A 35 inch musky on 8lbs test jigging for walleye. Also a new species, cant believe that happened. Still in shock. A white bass. Missed another, 2-2lbs. 2 lakers one hit the Dixie jig. And a rock bass! I missed a few really big fish. One was a giant walleye, I think I hooked a sturgeon that bit the Dixie jig. Also lost a big red horse sucker at the net, which would’ve been a new species! That also hit the Dixie jig!- Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Gave up on bass, been trying for stripers, still not catching fish!- Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
I love big soft baits. These real preys are super durable. They hold up real well to pickerel! she hit when I popped the bait out of the grass. I should’ve check the braid. The whole thing was going so must of been the knot to the eye on the bait- Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Yea it did! Worst spring ever had. But I also haven’t fished nearly as much as I normally would! It hit an RP alewife. I had it BB rigged with some heavy braid. It was a bait I haven’t used in a while. The braid snapped, I got the bait back. I use 20lbs big game mono on my swimbait set up- Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
I lost my first big fish of the season the other day. I think it could’ve been pushing 7lbs. Went to land it and my leader snapped. That one really hurt. I haven’t broke 3lbs yet this year. That was like getting kicked in the balls, and then getting pushed down the stairs- Life time warranty’s?
What company’s offer life time warranty’s? I know old town canoes and kayaks, Dobyns. I love supporting these kind of companies- Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
I’m on the crappie train. Can’t catch a d**n bass but the crappies, pickerel and trout are bitting.- Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Got out yesterday for the morning bite. Was hoping they moved shallow, very slow and scattered fish. Nothing good. Still on the struggle bus this season. Got 3 dink bass in 6 hours of fishin - Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
