Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Stripers have been non existent for me the past few weeks. I haven’t done much bass fishing since April. Decided to hit a pond I haven’t been to in years. Started of with a BiCo jig and Lanciotti psycho gill working my way past an island No fish on the gill. Had a few small whacks on the jig. Saw some mid lake stumps ive did well at years ago. No jig fish or gill fish. Switched up to a bone whopper plopper 130 and a Roy L slammer. Got one on the slammer. They loved the whopper plopper but I couldn’t break 2lbs. Got 10 bass on the whopper plopper. I worked my way up around shallow pads and stumps. Tried a weedless hudd 68 in the pads and a lemires 5 inch wooden jitterbugg. Nothin. More Whopper plopper fish. I had a big blow up on the slammer snake. I had some loops in the swimbait reel after I cast. So trying to pull them out that’s when the fish hit. After more WP fish. I needed something picture worthy. I tried out my new Real Prey weedless paddle tail. After a few cast, this 5.13. She hit after I ripped the bait through the weeds. Super pumped!!! All my big bass this year have been on a real prey

That’s One Big Bait!
I personally don’t throw big Rat baits. I have and caught fish. But I prefer other style of big topwaters. Like a giant 8 inch jitterbug and other wake baits like the slammer. I know a lot of guys who throw big rats. They work well. I believe a guy just got a 9lb NH largemouth on a rat

What is your most "productive" topwater
Forgot wakebaits! Underrated but it is my best producing topwater. From 3 inch to 9 inch baits

Does jighead color matter for smallmouth, as in do you try to match the soft plastic or is unpainted/silver just as effective?
I try and roughly match. So if I’m using darker or craw color baits then I’d use a darker, green pumpkin, or black color. Or white for bait fish colors. I love tying jigs. So my rule of thumb is. If I’m going to match a craw or blue gill hair jig then I use the green pumpkin damiki head/free style ball head . If im going to use shad, shiner or perch color hair jig then I use white damiki head/ free style ball head

Crazy bycatches?
That’s incredible. Must of been so much fun. I did that with 20-30lb king salmon in a river and a 6 weight. Only landed one but the fight was awesome. Didn’t break them off just pulled the hook

I got a chaddle tail. Looks awesome. Faster bait but the whole body shimmy’s. Definitely need a wedge tail. I absolutely love the hudd weedless shad. But it’s gets beat up. It’s not durable and hook sets are tough but it gets so chewed. I’m really excited for the new RPs. They are so durable and get chewed as well.

Fished a big fish spot of mine. Never done well from shore for big bass but have caught a few. Almost took the skunk. Fished a few big topwaters And other swimbaits. Tried a frog, whopper plopper 130 And 90x. A glide bait, a weedless swimbaits, big wooden jitterbugs, and other wake baits. Manged a dink 2lber on a lanciotti psycho gill in the bottom of the 9th. Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
My boats broke , needs a new engine. I’ve been out to some great spots that are pretty well known for good stripers. It was slow both times. I caught one high 20 inch or low 30 inch striper in a spot the were crushin it for big fish. My buddy who owns the boat got 3 teen fish. Teens in pounds not Inches. Then the 2nd time we fished the monomoy rips on my uncles badass boat. My brother caught 2 schoolies. I caught everything but stripers and blues. May was good for smaller fish. But since June 1st I’ve caught a whopping total of 3 schoolies. even getting live macks or pogies, or surf casting the area I’ve been fishin for 30 years it’s been slow

That’s so cool! Would love to see a saw fish. That’s a very rare catch Awesome grass carp. Would love to catch one. I’ve caught mirrors and commons. Nothing big. Great read. Those cat fish fight pretty hard.

Crazy bycatches?
No worries buddy. You’re fishin. That’s the meaning. Catching a fish you are not targeting. So bass fishing and you catch a gar. That’s a pretty cool list of bycatchs

Ever get very sick on a fishing trip?
Yea Me2 dude. I’m 31 now I’m like 3 hours of sleep no way! We used to do suicide trips to upstate Ny in the fall for salmon brown and steelhead. 7.5 hour drive. We would leave at midnight Saturday, drive all night, fish all day Saturday. Half day Sunday and come home!

Yep got my 7.8 on a 9 Inch slammer cranked down along a drop off leading to a shallow Lilly pad flat. It was mid afternoon hot sunny June day. I believe caught 2 more over 7 in recent memory. One was early March on 1/4 ounce jig.3 feet of water at a blow down. Ice still on the pond snow on the ground. Absolute gorilla. Scale broke next one was in August on a lunker city 6.5 fins’n fish. No fish all day. Decided to bring the rod and the lure I had on. Swam across the pond to this rock. 5 min for this giant, swam across the pond with the fish pinned to my chest. scale brown

Ever get very sick on a fishing trip?
I’ve felt like death before because of lack of sleep. I’ve slept on life jackets on a John boat. And canoes. Slept in the woods used my fishin bag as my pillow. I’ve done many all nighters. Both fresh and salt. I used to work till 11pm on Friday nights. So I’d work all day. Either sleep for 2 -3 hours get up super early. Drive to the spot and sleep. Or fish all night.

Fishing a lake soon that holds Alewife. Which baits would you add to these?
Absolutely but there was a 9.3 caught in NH few days ago.
