  1. This pond never freezes solid, it’s always open due to current but another pond very close by was completely locked solid
  2. I got a chunky 2lber today in MA. Local ponds are still locked up solid. It was windy. Fished it parallel to the wind blown shore. Slow retrieve on bottom.
  3. Yea I love black and blue or straight black. Especially for jigs
  4. My PB 6.9 was in 55 degree water on a whopper plopper! Only thing they would bite. Fished 10 hours with out a fish. Then tried my new WP and had a 20lb bag of smallies in short time
  5. Wow never heard of the difference between them. Like Gp for stained and watermelon for clear
  6. Which one do you prefer? Notice a difference between them?
  7. The Q and chu are the only places in Ma stocked with salmon. They used to stocked broodstock Atlantic salmon in places around the state but hurricane Irene destroyed the hatchery. They got them from VT. I love salmon they are so fun. I’ve caught a few in Ma. But NY salmon are incredible
  8. Time to spool reels. Organize gear, order new gear! Springs around the corner. starting to warm up here in MA. Next week in the 40s!!!!!!! Woooooo
  9. Those 2 colors are pretty much all you need
  10. That’s a loaded question. But soft plastics I stick to black, green pumpkin, watermelon, any variants of those. Hard baits I fish a lot of swimbaits.. not much crank baits or spinner baits. my favorite big wake bait is a 9 inch slammer. My favorite colors are solid colors, white, black, red, purple, chartreuse. That’s a general rule of thumb for my topwater selection. I also own a lot of shad color swimbaits, shad colors pretty generalized color. Matches lots of bait fish around here. soft swimbaits I keep it natural as well. Trout, shad, shiners, perch. jigs are the same as soft plastics, black, pumpkinseed, watermelon, and their variants
  11. Yep. Here in Ma. The ice is iffy. Get snow and cold temps for a week or so then it opens up. So there’s really no ice out time. Just wait for March when it starts to warm up. Last winter it was 40s and 50s in the winter, even 60s and 70s in January and February. March came through thats when winter hit. I was catching topwater bass in February here in Ma. Cold west spring They don’t stage as well. Bites tougher for me during the spring if it’s cold and wet. Especially for big bass. They move up spawn quick and it a over. First I’ve ice fished locally in 6 years. Finally get snow this winter. Figures crossed!!!
  12. Go night fishing! I have a similar pond, shallow, tons tons of weeds. The shore line has structure, trees and some pads but it’s very shallow. Tough fishing during the day. You can get bit there during the day. Night fishing is a different animal. Night fishing the fish get active and chase baits
  13. I find that if it’s a cold snowy winter then we will have a mild spring. If it’s a mild winter then we have a cold wet spring. That’s what’s been happening the past few years in Massachusetts! Mild winters cold wet springs. Cold wet springs-bad fishing! For Me
  14. I love tying my own jigs! I use marabou and rabbit a lot, very natural movement and flair. I cast out and slow twitch slow steady retrieve. Also fishing it like a jig crawling on bottom works well. Twitch and pause. a hair ned rig works well!
  15. I went out yesterday in Massachusetts Fished a jerkbait got one fish. No other hits on a jerkbait but I tried out a new 9 inch swimbait, got nailed. Missed a good fish and had another whack on this new bait. The day before I was ice fishing on 5 inches of 5 miles away from the pond I hit yesterday’. I had another whack on a smaller 5 inch swimbait.
  16. Down the cape, look for moving water So stoked! Shocked I got nailed on the big 9’inch swimbait!
  17. went out testing new swimbaits. Got a small fishing on a jerkbait. Missed a good fish on on a new KGB benson. Had another whack on the bait. Also had a decent hit on a real prey perch.
  18. d**n that’s cold. Nice job getting out
  19. A Bico jig paired with a Samatis craw 9’inch Ms slammer a texas rig a strike king caffeine tube A real prey 5 inch perch or hudd 4 inch weedless shad depends on where I’m fishing. One place I won’t fish a big swimbait like a slammer, but fished a tube, texas rig, jig, small swimbait on bottom. anothwe place you won’t catch me fishing a tube or texas rig. But will fish a jig, big swimbaits like a hudd, slammer, Matt’s shad, tiny klash
  20. Up here in Massachusetts we get some really big fish. Yea not as many as down south. But they are out there. Just need to know where to look. Find a place with good forage, perch, Shiners, trout our herring. Find a good place, study it. Keep fishing it. Learn their habits. During the herring run the bass school up and ambush the herring when they come in. We learned when they show up, what they want to hit, and when they hit. My buddy has 5 8lbs bass in the last 4 years. He’s pattern these fish to the hour but only during certain time of year. I’m still learning these fish. I’ll fish the spot during the afternoon and evening get a few 4s and 5s, he fished it at sun up and get an 8 and 6s. another buddy. Different spot, slayes big fish, he’s on this spot daily. Hasn’t Broken 8 here but a 9.15 was caught at this spot in November. He’s learned this lake very well. Knows where theyll be during each season. 2 completely different fisheries. the first spot is small super super shallow, with herring. The 2nd spot is very big and deep. Most of the time it’s about experience and time on the water. You already do well by getting 6s. Lot of people who fish up north don’t have 6s.
  21. I love tying my own. I tie a lot of smaller jigs for panfish, trout and salmon. Recently started tying bass jigs. Been working good for me.
  22. awesome dude! Yea they use a lot of bucktails on them! I want to try out other materials on the saltwater jigs. Hmmm inline spinner for stripers? Never thought about that! Might have to try it. I love striper fishin. what got me started. We were fishing in NY for steelhead and salmon. Bought some crappie jigs from Walmart. 10 for 2 bucks. We slayed em. I wanted better hooks cuz the hooks would bend after 1 fish. Also wanted to try different colors. It took off. Have so many different color combos and styles of jigs. It’s awesome. Wish I could fish steelies more often then twice a year. It’s a 7.5 hour drive for me
  23. Nice dude. I want to start tying up spinner baits, inline or bass spinner baits for pike. Also going to tie up saltwater jigs this winter
  24. Awesome boat!!$ we fished 8-2 today on big sandy pond. We had a lot of flags, few jig hits. Most flags were drive byes. They would run the bait and drop. I got 2 nice rainbows. 1 on a tip up, the other jiggin. I missed a nice fish jiggin. Also had a big brookie sniffin my jig my buddies got some nice trout as well. Mostly rainbows, 1 brown. My buddy got a big bow but gut hooked it, so It’s dinner! probaly the last ice we Get this year and maybe for the next few years
