Warm weather but cold fishing
Nice dude. I would honestly make shoreline structure for your self. Seems like those fish would hold on what ever piece of structure they could find! I would definitely try and hit that storm drain area especially after a rain! I would just fan cast the whole pond! Far out towards the middle then along the shoreline! Fish everywhere, you’ll get em

Warm weather but cold fishing
absolutely!! How big and how deep are your ponds? If there’s no deep water they are all shallow. what happens this time of year the warmer water is the shallow water. Even tho it’s more affected by the weather. That shallow darker bottom retains heat, same with rocks and wood. So that water will be warmer then the deeper water. I fish a lot of ponds no deeper then 10 feet and not bigger then 20 acres. May just have to hit it at the right time, could be a morning bite, could be an afternoon bite. But with water temps like that I’d be fishing shallow or just a bit deeper for the staging larger females. Hell I’d start night fishing with big wake baits. They can get aggressive in those water temps! It’s game time bud. Go get stick some piggies

Warm weather but cold fishing
50 is the Magic number for fish up shallow, but I’ve caught a ton of fish up shallow in cold water. I was getting topwater fish up here in MA last week from shore. Wake baits in very shallow water. Stuck a pig in the same area last week as well on a soft swimbait.

Nice fish @BigEyedF11sh thanks fellas. For swimbaits. You can buy a decent rod for 130 bucks, savage gear bowser, and a guide select. swimbaits, I highly recommend a slammer. This thing gets bit. Hard! A lot! 7 inch or a 9 inch. I prefer the 9. Look at savage gear line up. They got a ton of good bugs swimbaits. They get CHEWED. The line throughs. The glides. Big topwaters. Also check our spro. Not many swimbaits in the line up like savage. They got a few. Spro bbz, the bbz rat and the glides. They get chewed. for a soft bait. I highly highly recommend a 5 inch real prey perch. That’s the bait the got the biggon yesterday. Slow swim it. Gets crushed. All the real prey line up gets hit hard!

Got a nice piggy yesterday’. My buddy never has an afternoon off during the week. He’s like I need fish. Took him to my gem I’ve been doing well at recently. Never really thought we would get anything big but I knew we would we get em. Im hanging out drinking a beer. Let him get first crack at the shore spot. He gets a nice fish, first bass of 2021. So he’s stoked so I said it’s my turn. Fish the same spot. Smoked a fat fish. Fish inhaled the real prey. No idea how big. Both scales were dead. I have a few more whacks but i couldn’t fish after that fish haha. My buddy gets another nice one. His fish were about 2 or so pounds. he was using a weedless hudd I gave him, that secret money bait for this pond. They love thst thing. I fished something different and it got em

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Got out this afternoon. Fished a shallow weedy pond, nothing, fished a jerkbait, swimbait, jig, t rig. Nothing. Surprised I didn’t get a pickerel. I missed something decent up shallow on a BiCO. Saw some fish up top. Who knows what they were. Decided to see if I could get a night fish. Hit a pond I’ve been hitting all winter. Only brought 2 rods and 2 baits. At first it was a bit slow. Missed a fish, spit hook. Continued casting. Got 2 fish, one on a Toxic wake and crank, and a 4 piece Pats. Had a few blows ups on each bait as well. Super stoked to get bit at night.

Getting bigger bites during a hot bite
Here’s a situation I found last spring. I was getting bit on a texas rig missile d bomb in Dill pickle color, fish were up shallow in and near brush. Nothing over 3lbs. This was mid March. Probably very early pre spawn or very close to the start. The whole pond is very shallow. I tied a variety of lures, lipless, cranks, swimbaits and other but they only wanted the dbomb. I did try casting away from shore looking for staging females So you’re on a good bite. But trouble finding larger fish. What do you do? Continue fishing the same lure and pattern you’re getting bit on in hopes of getting a larger fish. Try a different color? Try a different size? With the dbomb there’s not much of a size variety. I only use the regular one not the baby one. Do you try a similar lure?

Travel rods or check rod tube
I’ve been traveling a bit more the last few years. Also brought a rod but sometimes the rods I want won’t fit in my suit case. So what’s the pros and cons, travel rods vs checked rod tube. I could be trout fishin in CO for trout, pike in Ireland or saltwater in Florida. I have tons of rods that would cover all the fishing I would be doing anywhere around the world. is it worth checking a rod tube, or is it worth picking up a few multi piece rods. Probably would grab 2. 1 for saltwater 1 for fresh water

Technique Overload
I’ve been fishing for almost 30 years. Back when I first started I just wanted to catch fish. Then as I got older, I focused more into techniques and style of fishing, instead of just fishing. I wanted to figure out why I was getting them and how to get more. Rather its a crappie, trout or a bass. Then I figured out my style.

I’m sure some smaller ponds will have skim ice. But most would be fine.

Cold water swimbait retrieves
Last year in Ma, even tho we had a warmer winter then normal. I slayed in cold water on a very slow sinking hudd. I was fishing in shallow water. I can fish this in very shallow water. Warm or cold. They’ll bite it! It’s great when they move up shallow in the spring! Right along the shore.

Yep. Awesome to watch a fish destroy it but those subtle bites get me going cuz I know it’s a good onr

Cold water swimbait retrieves
I took an 8 inch floating hudd, added some nail weights to make it suspend or sink very very slowly like ROF 3. I do fish them on bottom, but I also love fishing them over the weed beds. Bass will come out of the weeds and nail it!! I ordered custom real preys to sink ultra slow!

Using Snap Swivels?

Cold water swimbait retrieves
I fish big swimbaits. Glides, soft swimbaits, cranking baits and slow sinking multiple jointed swimbaits. Slow steady, or slow twitch.

Yep’ often times the giants will inhale so you just fish feel the lips on the line. Easy to notice when fishing topwater. You’ll here the slurp and not smash. You know it’s a big fish. Your bait just suddenly disappears .

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Went out shore fishin after work. Tried a few swimbaits, jerkbait, lipless crank and squarebill crank, nothin. They only wanted a weedless hudd. Had a few whacks, some good hard hits. 1 bass and 1 pickerel.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
I struggled today. Got a late start cuz I helped my buddy with some sheet rock this morning. Had plans to head to the cape to try a few new ponds. Went with plan b. Fished Plymouth. Couldn’t find a pattern, fished a jig, finesse jig, few different swimbaits, a lipless and a few jerkbaits. Got a chunky fish just shy of 3lbs.
