  1. how deep do you go? In a shallow pond would they be stacked up near cover in the deepest area? the problem with jerkbaits here is the pickerel. big fish here of all species but the pickere are a pain in the arse if you use smaller lures. especially in the cold water
  2. ill be fishing all winter long!!! BLADE BAITS!!!!!!
  3. any tips for winter crappies in shallow ponds? I have a pond, herring fed, 14-15 inch crappies in late spring and fall. im sure it can produce 2lbers. Never fished it in the winter. its less then 10 feet deep. weedy, some good shore line structure with trees. LOTS OF PICKEREL!!!!!!! how would you go about fishing this place in winter and spring for big crappies?
  4. there are landlocked stripers, found down south, the carolinas, nevada, calli, alambama, etc. I cant give you info on landlock stripers only ocean stripers where i live
  5. I'm on a mission for a 2lb crappie. I live in MA. I've caught plenty of 14 inch crappies, my biggest is 1.5. I've caught them on 7 inch swimbaits going for bass. Any suggestions on how to break 2lbs. We have quite a few herring run ponds. I'm going to start there, I'm sure they go nuts on the bait fish. Some of these ponds are shallow weedy, others are deep and clear. What time of year? Spring cuz of the spawn or fall cuz of the juvy herring? How effective is night fishing? I know they are active at night, i've caught plenty at night, especially going for bass with topwater
  6. awesome fish willie, saw this on the other forum. ill be there this weekend
  7. i was supposed to get out on saturday with a buddy on his boat at a local hog factory, he ended up working. i shore banged a couple spots, i hate fishing in the yak in the wind. ended up with 2 pickerel and 2 yellows. the last spot was the best, had a lot of hits, pickerel were aggressive. missed a small bass that hit a crappie jig. im on a mission for a 2lb crappie. sunday was going to try and get out for some deep water bass since the wind died but got stuck doing house work then off to the bar for beers, wings, laughs and footballl
  8. i havent ventured deep with blades yet. going on a swimbait jig mission tomorrow in some shallow hawg factories! water is still warm!!
  9. Copy and paste. Thats what I do from my facebook
  10. i dont use it! actually broke it tying to modify it. its a big bait. it will 100% get bit. its a great looking lure though. ive caught some nice fish on the 6inch.
  11. not true my friend. ive caught crappies on 7inch swimbaits. this bass was caught on a 10inch swimbait. small fish will hit big lures. i live in MA and i can tell you most of our lakes dont have DDs but ive caught many many bass of all sizes. i fish baits to 15 inches
  12. dude if i live there i would be living on the rivers chasing big steelies and browns.
  13. pond was half frozen, snow on the ground, open water. this was caught on a black blue finesse jig in 3 feet of water near a tree. fish smoked it. im looking forward to winter open water fishin, i go deep near structure with blade baits, hair jigs, slow. i catch a lot of smallies with some decent largemouth. smallies are easier to get tho. I find smaller ponds with water 10 feet or deeper. even if there isnt a deep hole, or hump on the depth map, find the steep drops. cuts or deep points. lot of times i cant mark fish on bottom. its crazy especially smallies willl literally be right on bottom. one day last february or early march, water temps in the low 40s. i was on a pile of decent smallies. i had to be 20-22 feet deep in front of this one house. if i was in 19 feet i didnt get them, i didnt mark any fish either. i saw something directly on bottom that looked weird, turned out it was a 3lbs smallies. it was so small on the finder that it could of been missed. lot of guys do well around MA with jerkbaits in shallow ponds but i only pesky pickerel, so i find deeper ponds with blade baits. i fish out of the kayak and get steady number of fish all winter
  14. some good swimbaits are cheap because they are big companies but mass produced. like swaver, good swimbait made by a big company, mass produced. these expensive swimbaits are not mass produced and made by smaller companies
  15. blade baits and hair jigs for my winter fishin, going to try some lipless this year. drop shots probably would work. my winter arsenal is very small, not many baits will work when the water is at 40 degrees. people LOVE jerkbaits in the super cold but i can only get bit by pickerel.
  16. big bait big bass, fish swimbaits and youll get em! thats what their forage is.
  17. its coming but where i live its weird, one year cold frozen till march, another no ice, january its frozen, february its wide open. last year we had a cold december, really cold but february came around i was open water fishin. but 1hr drive north its locked solid. 30 min south where i fish mostly. wide open. its safe to say that i will be open water fishing all winter. even if small ponds are locked, the bigger spots will be open, especially further south I go. unless it gets super cold. I HOPE NOT. i love blade bait fishin
  18. so friggin awesome!!! im on a mission to get one within the year. been out a few times after pelagic fish, never hooked up. even in Miami going after sail fish mahi and shark. i was shocked that we didnt see one shark on the bait in Miami for 2 days
  19. yea i creep it slllllooowwwww, some pauses, or slow twitch. lot of guys LOOOVVEEEE and swear by the black dog G2 shell cracker. i dont have one yet. ive caught some large crappies on the slammer in mid late fall at night.
  20. check out swimbait underground, lots of good info on there for night fishing, mossypumpkin on there my buddy from maine, still getting fish up there with air temps in the 20s. hes put A TON of good info on there
  21. Im in MA. we caught fish shallow at night on topwaters air temps 30s, then 2 days later same pond, fish shallow, on small swimbaits, they were in current feeding on young juvy herring. biggest fish came way up the pond where it turns into a small river.
  22. i want a tuna so badly. It kills me i havent caught one yet in the 26 year of fishin. especially growing up on the ocean and one of the best fishing harbors in MA. still never caught one
  23. STOPPED SELLING SLAMMERS??????? WHHHHATTTTTTT. thank God i got alot of them. its been in the 40s and 50s during the day. that night it was at 30. water temps are in the 50s. the herring are moving out of the ponds, saw a lot of surface activity on saturday at dusk
  24. coldest night of the year, last thursday, caught a couple MS slammer fish( big topwater) biggest 4lbs. also caught a nice brown trout and had a few other hits. saturday my buddy caught a 3lber on a small swimbait at night, we didnt fish long in the dark, fished ALLLL DAY at that spot, we were beat.
