  1. I travel a lot, the best smallmouth lake in the state is 2.5 hour drive. I work till 11 pm on friday nights. So I pack everything and drive up after work, Sleep in my car for a few hours then fish for the whole day. Then drive back. Last time I did that, I got 1.5 hours of sleep, felt like absolute crap for the whole day. Fished for 10 hours with out a bite, the last 2 hours turned into something I'll never forget. All smallmouths. 6.9lbs, 5.5, 4.2. 3.5 and a 2lb, all but the 5.5 were on topwater. my buddy got the skunked.
  2. I've only fished it twice not a bad spot
  3. unfortunately the last few places i've fished were deep and weedy. Didn't get many fish.
  4. Thats awesome! I live in Marshfield, half way between Boston and the cape. Indian has big white perch and crapies
  5. Massachusetts has 3,000 lakes and ponds
  6. I've had the winter blues for a bit. WOOOOO.
  7. I have a pond with good quality bass, not pressured much. Either its a small bass like 1-2lbs or a 5lb plus. This is where I caught my PB 7.8, over the years I've caught big fish before I had a scale, never pounded it tho. Fished it off and on throughout the years. But this year it was soooooo slow, caught a 5.9 in early March just before a snow storm, only 5lb fish from there this year. The spring was wet and cold. Water levels were higher then normal, the water color was darker to. So I dont know if its just the spring was worse then usual, or the year class died off? who knows. On versatility. I have a spot 300 acres, great off shore structure and cover, very little shallow cover, deep clear pond. We would fish the whole place but only find fish in one certain area for each time we would go out, Fished it a few times in the summer, but not much in the spring. I hate fishing it in the yak so if i dont go on my buddies car top i dont fish it. I would fish jigs and a variety of small soft swimbaits, THEY LOVE CRAWS HERE, thats why i fished the jig A LOT!! for smallmouth and small largemouth, a tube is the way to go. theres large fish here with both species, thats why small swimbaits and jigs were my arsenal. But I dont get bit on the deep humps, trees, grass flats, drop offs, rocks and only get bit in one certain spot with my arsenal its weird. Yea theres probably different baits that work better in certain areas on this place, but if they are hitting jigs in one location why wouldnt they bite jigs in a different area. I don't fish crankbaits, spinner baits and lures like that, I fish slower baits, dissecting an area, maybe thats the case with this. maybe theres no fish on these areas, but 300 acres, with good structure but to only get fish in one certain area is kind of weird. Who knows theres a million different reasons. When I get the new boat, I will be able to fish this place more and can figure it out.
  8. 1) break 8lbs for largemouth. This is a huge goal for me, been hunting this fish for a few years. My PB is 7.8lbs northern strain largemouth caught in MA 2) I highly doubt that I will ever catch a 7lbs smallie, but my PB is 6.9 MA smallie, I could tell you before I caught that, I was sayin "I highly doubt I'd break 6lbs" 3) MY FIRST TUNA!!! THIS IS SUPER HIGH ON MY BUCKETLIST!!!!!! I've been dreaming of this day for a while, I've gone out after them seen them, never hooked up. Even when casting into blitzing tuna. I dont have the means of getting out after tuna. I need richer friends hahaha!! 4) MY FIRST FRIGGIN COHO!!!!!!!! Been going to Upstate NY for a few years now, Dying for my first coho, I wish I could fish up there more often to increase my chances, but a 7-8 hour drive is a very long drive. I may have hooked one and lost one this past fall. COULDNT REACH IT WITH THE NET AHHHHHHH, so close to landing this fish, one last run, GOODBYE!!!!! I REFUSE TO BELIEVE ITS A COHO, HAHAHAHAH. 5) 20lb pike, just got to put in time on the right locations. 6) The most important cuz with this I increase my chances for an 8lbs largemouth, 7lbs smallie and 20lbs pike. A JOHN BOAT!!!! This will change my fishing for ever! I fish out of a kayak and HATE IT. 7) A 10lb carp, put time into the right locations. 8 ) A BETTER JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that way I can afford a better boat and be able to get tuna, and all the other saltwater fish I havent caught yet. I can keep going with this list, these are the most important, I have a lot of local fish I'm dying to catch but dont have a way of getting out to them. Living on the ocean with a boat that you cant do much on is tough. I can only stay in close to shore.
  9. Thanks, never knew we had that here. I always say I'm going to keep a log but never end up doing it. Merry Christmas to you as well Yep I'm the same way. You think its the wrong decision. I was thinking of doing the same thing. Have a seasonal plan set up, OK so its pre spawn, early spring, small shallow darker ponds warm up quicker. Ok the herring are running, focus on herring runs. etc etc
  10. hahah, true but the ocean is a big place. much rather a fresh fish from the ocean then a fish from a mud puddle
  11. lmao! right! Wish I didnt have to sleep so I could just fish all the time. Work and fish, basically what I do now but mixed with 8 hours of sleep. Needs to be one - two hours of sleep, haha. Theres deep clear lakes, deep stained lakes, shallow clear, shallow stained. sandy rocky ponds, ponds with standing timber. weed filled ponds. Theres a pond to match your favorite techniques. Some are neighborhood ponds with bobbers and rubber worms in the trees. some are deep remote ponds, some are small bog ponds stocked by the owner. some are trout stocked. some with alewives and blue backs, some with just panfish and shiners. Love living around here, also we got some AMAZING saltwater fishing in my backyard. so what to choose, saltwater or fresh hahaa. freshwater. WHERE TO GO! AHAHAH its winter and fishing is on hold =(
  12. I live on the ocean in MA. Catch my own lobsters, shellfish and fresh saltwater fish. Black Sea Bass fried in a tropical panko bread crumbs is amazing. Black Sea Bass is a nice sweet flavored white fish. Its a bottom fish so it eats lobsters crabs and shellfish, so its really tasty. I LOOOOVVEEEE GRILLED FISH!!! I enjoy the taste of fish. A lot of people HATE bluefish, they are an oily fish. but I eat it with salt butter and lemon juice on the grill. People put mayo on it to get rid of the oily taste. I HATE MAYO on fish, unless its fried fish with tahtah (tarter, in Boston accent) sauce. oooooo fried scallops are sooooooooooo d**n good. I LOOOVEEEE SCALLOPS!!! Scallops are a sweet flavorful shellfish. Raw seafood like raw oysters scallops, quahogs! love them! I dont eat freshwater fish because of the contaminants. why bother when you have the ocean at your door step. The freshwater around has a lot of heavy metals. The local ponds and lakes were used for old mills and factories.
  13. I like that idea. The biggest lake I really fish is 300 acres. Dont have the super giant lakes. That one giant lake like Minnetonka can have 5 different patterns, thats gota be tough
  14. I like the silver buddy, I've been using the BPS blade, guys love it! other guys love the binksy. havent used it yet. I have a few different blades baits, I dont stick to just one brand! Also try letting it pause on bottom. They will often pick it right up. I've caught many fish that way. When you go to lift the bait you often set the hook.
  15. I can never decide where to fish. I have SOOOOOO MANY PLACES TO FISH !!!!!!!!!! A local town I fish has 365 ponds and lakes in it. That's just the town. I have at least 500 ponds and lakes within an hour. I can never decide where to go. Its always like "big fish here here here and here, but the wind isnt good for that spot. I have done good here in this spot but its been bad lately. or I've heard there big fish here but I havent fished it. ETC. How do you make your decision on where to fish for the day or weekend?
  16. never got out this weekend =(. Ended up putting a water heater in, Sunday was crappy so football it is. Thats the last chance I've got for a few weeks to fish, NH this weekend, a wedding the weekend after. At least I'll be having fun on the weekends. I would be fantastic if the sun would stay out a little longer so I can fish after work.
  17. fish that small creek channel if its flooded, fish the main river channel as well. Pre spawn location if the water is 45-55. The fish will be moving up from the depths. If its sunny out then the fish should be shallow in the warm water. That island on the edge of the main channel looks good to.
  18. i fish out of a 10 foot super light kayak, but like it was said in a previous post, the wind blows. Its really great for pond hoping and fishing smaller ponds. I hate fishing a big pond on a kayak. I'm in the process of buying a jon boat, that way i can have a motor, anchor, multiple rods. I hate being limited to only 2 rods!
  19. i fish a bico pretty much everytime im out on the water, never had an issue with skirts failing, ripping or melting
  20. bico jigs are my favorite jigs, totally different style head then the usual arky and football. I bet the giant spinner bait would be good for giant smallies
  21. not a bad idea! To many spots I can fish!!!
  22. I cant decided where to fish this weekend, I could fish a honey hole hoping for a giant or fish water I dont fish often but has good fish.
  23. Got a good deal on a Dobyns champion 807 for $200. I'm pumped!!!!
  24. ive been fishing blades and hair jigs when i've been going out. Water is about 40-45 here in MA. Thats if its still open from the recent cold. I go deep, the bass are less affected by the cold. Shallow ponds get cold quick but also warm quick. The deep ponds take longer to cool down and longer to warm up. I look for steep drops, green weeds, humps, holes. Fish light line slow and small baits. 2 weeks ago I had a good whack fish in a heavy jig in 15 feet of water, water was 45. Got the only bass out of the guys I was with, on a steep shoreline drop to 30 feet. on a hair jig slow twitch down the drop. I know guys do very well with jerbaits in shallow ponds this time of year but I only get pickerel when I fish them Smallies are very active this time of year. Blades rule the smallie world for me. slow hop off bottom.
