Multi-Jointed Swimbait Recommendations Requested...
matts lures makes some incredible baits, he was a taxidermist so he brought that to making swimbaits. The meathead, strong series are awesome! Expensive though but the realism, the action, durability and the detail are incomparable to other baits

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Got fish this weekend but it was a grind. Fished 2 shallow ponds on Saturday. Pond 1, first time here, super shallow, 6 feet deep. Managed a fat white perch, first fish of the year. Had a few other whacks here. Fished light jigs and jerkbaits. Pond 2, weedy, deepest 8-10 feet. I've fished at a lot, I was fairly confident but I never fished it in the winter. Only got 2 yellow perch here on jerkbaits, Fished the north shallow side heavy that's where both perch came. Also tossed the real prey looking for a big fish, nothing. Shocked that I didn't even see a pickerel, this place is loaded with them. Sunday, I fished 3 ponds. Pond 1, 6- 8 feet, lots of weeds. I've fished before in the cold, but haven't been here since early 2017. Shallow pond, they seem to stack up in the deep hole on the north side of the pond. I had a few whacks, got a perch on finesse jig with Samatis craw trailer. Fish jigs, jerkbaits, rattle traps, finesse swimbaits, big swimbaits, shakey head. Had a whack on the imakatsu steal swimmer, 6 inch weedless swimbait, no fish on the real prey pond shiner. Pond 2 was a bit deeper, 10-15 feet, not as many weeds. Fished here on the way back to the launch, had to paddle through here to get to pond 1. Had a good whack on the shakey head, didn't feel like a perch, fished blades, shakey heads, and hair jigs. Only had the one hit. Pond 3, I've done very well in the cold. Deepest out of the 3 ponds, 25 feet or so. Started out with blades, shockingly no hits on the blade. Fished hair jigs, shakey head, blades, finesse swimbaits, and rattle traps. I had a good whack on the savage minnow, its the new 4 inch finesse swimbait, if you can call it a swimbait, lol. Got hit on a rattle trap, first decent fish of the year, so pumped. Fighting it, playing it well. Had some good weight. So excited, first bass of the year, good fish to, WRONG!!!!! Fat 3lbs pickerel, in the yak, guess what? WHERES MY PLIERS?. Had to lip the pickerel and use the hook from my scale to pop the hook out. Fished the shakey head a bit with a lunker city fins fish 4 inch. Took a cast, let it sit on bottom. Picked my other rod up with the 1/4 ounce hair jig to see if I can get any jumbo perch or bass. I've got yellow perch up to 2.3 lbs here. Went to grab my other rod with the shakey head. A bass picked it up. First bass of the year, nothing huge but broke the ice. Of course when I'm trying to catch bass, I get perch and when Im trying for perch I get bass.

Jerkbait help.
I SUCK AT JERKBAITS!!! I've been trying tho, but coming up short. I personally would rather fish a blade in deep water then a jerkbait in shallow water. I usually get pickerel, and panfish on jerkbaits, rarely a bass.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
During that brutal winter we had a few years ago when we got that 100 inches of snow in February, I saw open water. Never got to fish it tho, it was a killer ice season. The pond was wide open! I was SHOCKED!!!!!

Mattlures 10" Dead Stick Trout
I recently got a 13inch dead twitch its HUGE. I live in MA, so hits will be few and far between but I can tell ya, that fish that does hit wont be small. I definitely think the 10 inch will be great for up here. Most of the trout they stock are bigger then 12 inches . Thats why I got the 13 inch.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Good luck dude. You’ll get em! No doubt! I fish slow all the time, rather it’s a jig,a swimbait, jerkbait, topwater, what ever, slower then “normal”. I’ve caught 3 7lbs fish in MA. Many over 6! I need an 8! I’m getting in the mindset to get that 8! I’m hunting that fish.

What are your goals for 2019?? 1) break 8lbs for largemouth. This is a huge goal for me, been hunting this fish for a few years. My PB is 7.8lbs northern strain largemouth caught in MA 2) I highly doubt that I will ever catch a 7lbs smallie, but my PB is 6.9 MA smallie, I could tell you before I caught that, I was sayin "I highly doubt I'd break 6lbs" 3) MY FIRST TUNA!!! THIS IS SUPER HIGH ON MY BUCKETLIST!!!!!! I've been dreaming of this day for a while, I've gone out after them seen them, never hooked up. Even when casting into blitzing tuna. I dont have the means of getting out after tuna. I need richer friends hahaha!! 4) MY FIRST FRIGGIN COHO!!!!!!!! Been going to Upstate NY for a few years now, Dying for my first coho, I wish I could fish up there more often to increase my chances, but a 7-8 hour drive is a very long drive. I may have hooked one and lost one this past fall. COULDNT REACH IT WITH THE NET AHHHHHHH, so close to landing this fish, one last run, GOODBYE!!!!! I REFUSE TO BELIEVE ITS A COHO, HAHAHAHAH. 5) 20lb pike, just got to put in time on the right locations. 6) The most important cuz with this I increase my chances for an 8lbs largemouth, 7lbs smallie and 20lbs pike. A JOHN BOAT!!!! This will change my fishing for ever! I fish out of a kayak and HATE IT. 7) A 10lb carp, put time into the right locations. 8 ) A BETTER JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that way I can afford a better boat and be able to get tuna, and all the other saltwater fish I havent caught yet. I can keep going with this list, these are the most important, I have a lot of local fish I'm dying to catch but dont have a way of getting out to them. Living on the ocean with a boat that you cant do much on is tough. I can only stay in close to shore.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
My year was slow! 2 fish over 5 this year! 5.9 and 6.13! The spring was super slow! Summer was good at one particular spot! Bunch of 3s and 4s no fish over 5 here! Lost 2 big fish one day here! Saltwater fishing was horrible! The big fish were there but I couldn’t get em! Did get a few keepers this year biggest was 35 inches! Went for pike one day! Had a few good whacks got 1 10lber! Went to Florida in April! So happy that I went! I’ve only been to Disney! So finally got to fish down there! It’s differnt the what I’m used to! We were confident in fishing down there but we were humbled! DRove down with 2 deaf people! It was a quiet car ride! Lmao! Caught a Pleco catfish, 2 types of tilapia, snook, sea trout, gar, can’t remember what else! Saw sea turtles, manatees! Went to upstate Ny twice! The first time was awesome! Caught some nice stealhead, brown trout, Atlantic salmon, king salmon, rock bass, gobies, white perch! Lost some absolute giant fish! Salmon and trout! So d**n big it will haunt my dreams! The second time we went! It was a bit slower! I only caught king salmon! My buddies did better with browns and steelhead. The water condionts sucked! Dark and high! Fishin dropped off and it got slow and hard since I’ve been back from Ny BRING ON 2019!!

how to choose where to fish
well thats a bummer! On weekends in the fall, I drive 7-8 hours west to fish for the day, for steelhead and giant brown trout. We often leave at midnight so when we get there we can fish before checking into the hotel. some days we drive up saturday at midnight, other days we leave at thursday or friday at midnight. come home sunday Im going to make a seasonal list for where and when to fish certain types of lakes.
