caught my first few night fish of the year last thursday. All on top. 5 bass 2-3lbs, was pretty stoked. Fished all weekend, Friday was slow. Fished 2 spots but didnt catch any bass. Caught some large pickerel. Fishing a 10 inch swimbait, felt a hit set the hook. Thinking it was a big bass. d**n PICKEREL!!! Saturday, fished with some buddies. All new spots they got fish 5 fish, I caught one on a swimbait. few hits on topwater. All dink fish. Sunday, hit 2 news spots. Caught one 3lber. Slow weekend. Saw fish up shallow at spot 1. Super shallow pond and very clear. No weeds or structure away from the shore line, it was tough getting fish here. Missed once dink on a jig way up shallow under a tree. Saw a few fish following my shellcracker cranked near some brush. Fished a causeway at another spot I wanted to check out. Lot of people drowning worms and fishing shiners. They were shocked when I rolled up with a 7 inch swimbait. I caught one 3lber here.

Fished 8-4 today 5 ponds with some buddies! They got fish’ I got 1 all dinks! They got bit on spinner baits! I got my one fish on a pats early! Few hits on the shell cracker! we hit new ponds! tomorrows a new day

crazy! I fish swimbaits a lot. Love 8 inch spooks, my biggest bait is 15 inches! its a wooden snake. I caught a 1.5lbs fish on an 8.5 inch wake bait the other day

my hardest season is winter to just before prespawn. I live in MA. We may have open water all winter but the weather is so up and down winter through April that its tough. Mid April when water temps hit 50 and the herring show up. Its balls to the wall.

Got a good fish yesterday. 4.6 on a hudd shad. Saw the fish chilling up shallow near brush. Pitched the bait to it, BAM fish on. Super pumped first good fish of the year.

hit a shallow bog pond yesterday after work. Few hits, 1 dink bass on a topwater swimbait. 1st topwater fish of the year. I saw lily pads coming up. Fished another spot. One of those places where I knew I'd get skunked but if I did get one hit it would be a big fish. Never gone out there and crushed it but if I get one fish its a good fish.

some of these fish haunt me. I had an absolute gorilla come up and spit the hook with this combo. I was fishing a chatter bait on bottom slow hopping like a jig. Thought I hooked a log, it came up broke the surface near the boat and spit the hook. It was a tank!

I'll be out basically everyday. going to the same place today as yesterday

Ok next time ill try that, just crank them in.

Maybe I'm play them to much? Yea I use stout hooks stout line, stout rod.

I have this rod and reel combo I keep missing fish on. Either on the hook set or after fighting the fish for a bit. On the hook set the drag slips if I keep it to loose. But I also feel that if I lock the drag thats when I lose them during the fight. I've missed some very good fish on the jump. Even when dropping the rod. Rod is a dobyns 735. 7’3″ 1pc. 12-25lb, 1/4-1 1/2oz, Mag Hvy Fast Action Reel is an abu garcia pro max 7:1 ratio baitcaster The rod is for flippin pitchin, frogs and small swimbaits. I use it for jig fishing, both flipping jigs and crawling jigs on bottom. I also use it for chatter baits and small swimbaits. I do a lot of casting out on structure, points, rocks, drop offs, humps, logs and crawling the baits back to the boat. Also fishing along shore flipping a jig. I have 30 or 40lb power pro on it with 12-20lb floro leader on it. 3 things. Im thinking. 1) The rod is to stiff and I'm pulling the hook out. Maybe need a longer rod, more flex? 2) The reel drag is junk, it slips or is to tight so when fighting the fish, the hook pulls out. 3) User error.

Went out yesterday, 4:30 to 7 pm. Found fish quickly on a wind blown point on the north side of the pond. Fished jigs, chatterbait, and swimbaits. All hits were on swimbaits. Had a big hit on a glide bait early. Tried my favorite early spring swimbait, Lots of hits on that bait. Missed a large fish, spit the hook on the jump. Caught 1 2lbs fish on a different swimbait in the same area.

I was out yesterday in MA. Only fished 2 hours. Had a bunch of hits, lost a big fish, spit the hook on the jump. Got a hard hit on a glide bait. All fish were on swimbaits. Fishing a wind blown point on the northern end of the pond.

The nemaskett river in middleborough has one of the best runs, its a tributary of the Taunton. Summer and fall theres tons of juvy herring, full blow blitzes.

been open water fishing all winter in MA. but had some periods a week or 2 of ice, ALL OPEN NOW!! LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!! only 40s and 50s, but ill take stable weather.!

I got mine when the first came out, the TK for 60 bucks on black friday sale at TW, the K9 off someone on a forum.

jigs and swimbaits! shallow ponds, muddy dark bottoms. I've caught many large fish this time of year. Even on topwater just after ice out. Fish slow. Fish jigs in shallow wood. swimbaits slow. near drop offs. or shallow warmer areas. Glide baits, cranking swimbaits and soft plastics. I hunt for big fish. I dont really fish many other baits.

I'm willing to bet there's holdovers putting around. Find some back bays, shallow water and mud, that will warm up fast. They will get active when the herring start running. The Taunton river has one of the best herring runs in the state. They get some good fish, stripers and blues.
