  1. To add to what's already been said, of course light line/spinning tackle is best. Plastic bait colors should be clear (watermelon, motor oil, salt/pepper, etc.). In addition to tubes, grubs can be successful, too. Try a small Beetlespin, perhaps a Mepp's in-line spinner also. Just some thoughts.
  2. Two words: WRIST ROCKET Just kidding. I remember when we were kids and one of us caught a blue gill when no one else was catching. The rest of us automatically moved our bobbers to that spot. It's like these people haven't grown up since then. I'm afraid it's not just fishing. It seems that everyone is "All about me!" everywhere you look (fishing, driving, restaurant lines, etc.). >
  3. Someone around here stole a whole tankful one night. Not a car tankful, but they drained the gas station tank. They had stolen a tanker and pulled up to one of those fully automated stations late one day and pumped it out. I'm sure any bystanders thought they were making a delivery. Fortunately they got caught. I'm afraid to say that this, along with ALL theft is going to get worse. We live in one of the best neighborhoods in town and last fall, two cars were stolen and several gas tanks siphoned. There's no one I detest worse than a thief. Get a job like the rest of us!! >
  4. I've always wanted Jimmy Houston's old theme song, "Hey, Jimmy, I think we'll have to go again sometime. . .". Anyone know where I could get it?
  5. I thought political posts weren't allowed on this board. So, does this mean you withdraw from the race, Russ? Too many skeletons in your closet, huh? Besides, the conservatives probably wouldn't like your new look anyway. :
  6. Never saw ours. It was direct deposited in the checking account. You know how that works. :'(
  7. Thanks for sharing. The picture of her kissing the frog is priceless. Cherish these memories!
  8. Well, Russ. Have you done the deed, yet? Pics, please!!!
  9. I just now noticed that it was gone. I guess I cared about it a little or I wouldn't have noticed that is wasn't there anymore. I didn't dwell on it, but always thought it nice to attain the different "membership levels". Then again, I don't think I've ever abused the post count. . . :-/ RIP post count!! BTW- Just in case anyone wants to know, I have 1393 posts, now. Did I mention that I have 1393 posts? ;D
  10. No doubt that paving the surface of the earth effects runoff. My problem with development (along with taking up land and habitat) is that every new home built is installed with an extensive landscape full of sod and thirsty plants. To meet this need, an automatic sprinkler system is installed. One problem in our area in North Texas is that many of the wells that supply many city's water are beginning to dry up (or drop levels tremendously). If we have any great length of drought (multiple years), I fear that they might dry up completely.
  11. Yes, I posted this movie on the Bassresource movie thread. It is one of the best I've ever seen. It's one that all families should take time to watch together. Keep the keenexes, handy, though. :'(
  12. I know he was one of the most mature and respectful "Diaper Dandies" on the forum. Hope he can come back and join us!
  13. Right-on, Kent. Think of a little old lady who normally has no opinion on the subject of hunting/guns, outdoor ethics, animal rights, etc. If she happens to be driving down the highway, stops at a stop sign and see's your bloody dead deer head with its tongue hanging out off your tailgate or the dead coyote carcasses on the fence post, then she can be turned against hunting. If she sees enough, then she goes home and starts a letter-writing campaign to the local senator. Before long, the senator sees a need to ban/tighten laws on hunting. It could happen! We as hunters/outdoors enthusiasts must make every effort to set a postive and ethical image to the general public. Always remember that hunting and fishing are PRIVILEGES, not rights.
  14. Rock on dude. . . can't wait to see the pics!! I've offered to shave my head to my 8th graders over passing a state standardized test, although my wife doesn't agree. Maybe I should go for a mohawk and really shock her. Hmmmm? :-/ Time will tell.
  15. I heard of a guy using a "point producing" credit card to buy Wal-mart cards for gas (Shopping cards get 3 cent discount). All totaled, he was saving up to 10 cents a gallon.
  16. Easier said than done. :-[
  17. I'm surprised this thread has gone this long. Hmmmm.
  18. Here's a sight with some really good video of many. He also sells some really fun gadgets; you can blow some coin fast. I've used some of his products in my classroom. http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/
  19. It looks just like a Sassy Shad to me, only bigger. Whether or not it's worth $10 for four of them. . . hmmmmm? :-/
  20. If you're refering to holding your rod up perpendicular to your taught line, plucking it above the lowest eyelet like a bow, it only works some of the time. If your fishing plastic baits, this is the only method besides trolling up and reeling down to the bait and pushing forward or reversing direction before pulling at it. If you're fishing cranks, the bests investment I've ever made was for a lure retriever. Mine is a "Hound Dog" retriever. It clips onto your line, slides down with force, causing the treble hooks to recoil forward and hang on it. I pull it back with the attached nylon cord (150 lb. test). This $5.99 item has paid for itself many times. There are many other retrievers on the market including ones with chains that snag the hooks. Some have even used an old spark plug. That's my .02. -Fisher
  21. Well, I played alto, baritone, and tenor sax back in MS and HS band (not at the same time, mind you ) Since then, I picked up drumming for awhile (played in a "garage" band) and the guitar. Now I use that musical knowlege to direct our church choir and lead worship. I can also "hunt and peck" a little on the piano.
  22. So, no more comedy? :'( Where are your priorities? : Seriously, congrats on the hire. It sounds like life is treating you well. We DO miss your humor around here. Check in when you can!! -Fisher
  23. One of my wife's bride's maids had lived in a big city up north until moving to Texas as a teenager. They found them a place in the country after moving to North Texas. One night her mom came running and screaming into the house. She kept screaming about one of the biggest rats she had ever seen being caught in a trash can on their back porch. I could see it easier mistaken for a rat than a cat. "Not very friendly, must be scared. . ." that's hilarious. Believe me, I learned reall early in life to leave a mean momma possum alone.
  24. Hey Bob, Instead of Dockers, you can buy the St. John's Bay stain repel/wrinkle free pants for under $20 at Penney's. Cheaper than that are the Austin pants at Academy for $14.99 a pair. I'll wear them out in about 6 months, about the same as a $30 entry pair of Dockers. This alone probably saves me close to $150 per year. *Another tip is to NEVER pay full price for anything unless you have to (especially clothing; the mark-up on clothing is tremendous).
  25. You silly SOB, you just made me drop my key board off my lap. LMAO! I remember when i was showed that like 8 months ago, i d**n near had a heart attack. If it's what I think it is, I saw it two or three years ago. I know better! One almost heart attack every few years is enough.
