  1. BH69- Both good jokes. I tell that first one quite often. Here's another: Two boys were fishing on a local pond as the game warden walked up. As he approached he asked them to get out their fishing licenses. One of the boys dropped his pole and ran off in a flash. The game warden gave chase for several hundred yards until the boy finally stopped and proceeded to get out his license. The game warden asked, "I don't understand, why did you run if you have a fishing license." "Why didn't you stay there like your friend?" "What friend?" the boy shrugged.
  2. Hey File mob, It sounds as if you are figuring all this out for yourself, but here's some advice that I share with the 8th graders I teach before they are off to HS. Study hard. If there's one thing that I could do if I ever went back (not that I have ANY desire to), it would be to study harder and make better grades. I could kick myself for not doing better (although I was in the top 20%, a little bit more work could have put me in the top 10% and an honor graduate). The other thing is that you have to learn to juggle the many different activities. Joining clubs and being involved in activities is good for college scholarship applications, but don't over-do it. When you turn 16, don't turn into a blooming idiot right after you get your liscense like I did. There'll be plenty of time to drive in your life (even a time later when you'll WANT someone else to drive you around). A couple of other things that I would have done would have been to party ALOT less and to have stayed closer to my faith throughout. The partying's fun, but seldom productive. Only by the grace of God did I stay out of jail (oops, I went once, but was released quickly) or keep from killing myself and others by driving home drunk. One phrase to remember: THINK before you act!! God bless, Fisher <><
  3. Sounds like my wife's college experience. When she started, they were looking for Psychology majors. 4++ years later, they were looking for Social Work degrees. Oh, well. Like you guys have said, it is all worth it. She's accomplished something she can be very proud of. BTW- Congratulations Muddy!! We are very proud of you. -Fisher <><
  4. Me too!! Good one, troutfisher!! ;D
  5. Did you guys hear that Mack Brown is going to change to a no-huddle offense now? Want to know why? (scroll down) In Texas, it is illegal for a group of felons to gather. ;D No offense, Mattfly and others, I found this too funny not to post. I figure all those years of Aggie jokes, I can throw one your way. Also, this allows me to cope with our big loss last night. :'(
  6. Yes, Matt. I'm really bummed about my aggies now. :'( It's very frustrating to know that we have the talent but a coach who doesn't use it productively. Not one time last night did we blitz or go man coverage (not once that I can remember). Our receivers were being dogged like white on rice by those Miami defenders. It never looked as adjustments were ever made to handle blitzes and pass rush until the end of the game (when it was too late). I really hope the high $$$ alumni can see the light this year and let Fran go. He's had enough time to make us better than we are. Good luck vs. Rice tomorrow!!
  7. To be honest with you two, I've never been to a Texas/OU game, although we live about an hour away from Dallas. We did make it to see the Aggies lose to Notre Dame by 3 back in the '93 Cotton Bowl (great game). I've never been to College Station to see one either, although I would love to sometime. I graduated from A&M-Commerce (when it was ETSU). I'm an aggie by association (cousins, brother, uncle, etc. all went there).
  8. Man, I hope so. I wanted to shoot myself during the first one. That had to absolutely be the WORST movie I have ever seen.
  9. Deb, Congrats to your 'cats!! That was an entertaining game Saturday night. I believe you guys might actually have something to do outside of basketball season. BTW- Hope Billy Gillespie does well for you guys. He's a heck of a coach. We'll miss him down here. -Fisher
  10. Well, as you can see, I'm not a real big UT fan. I really think that you guys are over-rated. Then again, maybe we are too. You guys and us are kind of in the same boat this year. We can both put up points, but neither of us can defend the pass. Personally, I'm worried that OU will whip both our tails, and that Tech may do the same (and some others if we're not careful). Oh well, I'm looking forward to talking some smack around Thanksgiving. That may be all we're playing for by then. Good luck to you longhorns! BTHO Miami!! Gigem' Ags!
  11. I think college is a way to create better opportunities for yourself. Like Muddy said, there are lots of jobs that make alot of money without college (i.e. plumbers, carpenters, business-owners, etc., even factory workers). I remember getting frustrated about two years into college and seeing some of my friends (who went right to work out of HS at the local Campbell Soup plant) driving around in new trucks and new boats, etc. I, for awhile, began to doubt my choice and pondered quitting. However, when I graduated (late in the summer) I did not get a teaching job right away. I spent a month or two working at a bakery factory (punching a timecard working with a machine. . . day in and day out). The money was good, but the work was simply monotonous. I worked some 60-70 hours a week and didn't even have the time to enjoy the money. I realized then that college was the right choice. I have been teaching kids for 15 years now and have never again regretted my decision. You go to college to do what YOU WANT to do, not settling for something that will "pay the bills". Each person's decision is different, so I can't say that everyone needs to attend college. I have two cousins who are brothers. The oldest is a Neurosurgeon and the youngest drives a forklift for a living (he went to college for a semester and dropped out. . . said it wasn't for him). Just take time to plan out your life and look to the future.
  12. Sam, I just don't know how you can be so down on the Manning's, but that's your opinion (liking LSU doesn't help; I have a hard time liking ANY player from UT ). I guess I can't completely put a nail down on how I feel about them (their character), but you can't ignore the fact that Peyton is one of the best (if not the best) QB's in the league right now (Eli, on the other hand. . . well). I do like the Colt's because I respect Tony Dungy and his character. I like a coach who seems to control his emotions and does not feel he has to cuss and yell at his players like some lunatic. I think the Colts will prevail in this early season game (only by a touchdown, though). I don't think they'll rack off a streak of 12 or so wins this year. Somebody will knock them off in the first six games, but I do see a total 12-win season in their future this year. Just my .02, Fisher <><
  13. We had someone try and steal our units when our new church building was complete. Fortunately we had bolted them down and they only stole the pipes connecting them. There is nothing that burns me up more than people who steal. GET A JOB like the rest of us!! >
  14. Between meth, high gas prices, and everything else, nothing is safe. People in very nice neighborhoods in our small town (under 5,000) are waking up to find their SUV's and cars on blocks. I have a padlock on my back gate, but I guess I need to put a lock on my shed.
  15. Thanks Murray. In my early twenties, my Dad owned an Alvarez regent (non-electric). He "indian-gave" it to me once before taking it back and selling it to my aunt ( I told him after the fact that I would have paid him for it). I remember that it had a good tone to it. It's interesting that you gave the link to musician's friend. My current guitar came from them as well as various sound equipment, cords, stands, etc. I've always been impressed with their stuff, prices, and customer service.
  16. Very nice guitar. I own an Applause (Ovation low-end) acoustic-electric. It was my first guitar (I've had for about two years now). It's OK, but sounds kind of tinny. As I learn more, I intend on buying a better one soon. Any suggestions in the $250- $500 price range? I lead worship at church, so would like to stay with an a/e guitar. -Fisher
  17. Live and learn, my friend. Live and learn.
  18. Heck, we have two or three of those go off every year at the middle school I teach at. ;D Maybe little old Alvord Middle School will make it on the terrorist map this year. Give me a break.
  19. As far as the Texas struggle, it doesn't surprise me. Don't be surprised if TCU doesn't upset them this weekend. I think the team that I'm most impressed with (and was impressed last year when they trounced us in the Holiday Bowl) is Cal. They pretty well man-handled Tennesee (especially in the second half). That team is fast, they executed well, and flew to the ball. I would keep them my favorite in the Pac 10 over USC. I think the Florida St./Clemson matchup tonight is a good one. I think this might be the deciding season for Bobby Bowden. Like someone said the other day on a sports radio show, I don't ever see state firing him, but with another season like last year, he might consider hanging it up if that happens again.
  20. I didn't see the half time feature, but that goes on all the time when I'm watching my aggies play. The commentators will mention the "Texas" offense or "Texas" defense. Believe me, down here, there's a BIG difference. BTW, Sam, props to your Tigers last night. Although, I believe if that MSU quarterback hadn't thrown all those INT's it might have been a little closer. Either way, it was AWESOME to get to watch some college ball.
  21. Man that's too funny. ;D I can't help but think about the old joke about the man who sold the mule who "didn't look too good".
  22. You are right Matt. The TCU game could be one of the toughest for you guys all year. Thanks for the props in your Big 12 run-down. I think this might be our year if any. We've really got a tough road run with Miami, OU, Nebraska, and Tech. It's going to be a toss-up between you guys, OU, and us. Man, I can't wait!!
  23. Gig'em Ags!! BTHO Montana State. . . if we don't we are in BIG trouble this season.
  24. Crooks don't like dogs. Aaah, yes. Nature's burglar alarm. . . and it even works if the power is out.
