  1. On a jig ...always ! On a spinner ... almost only when slow rolling a heavy colorado in winter ... usually a bulky grub ! On a buzz ... never ! (But like 80% of the time I'll put a trailer hook on (sort of a trailer too ) If the question was only related to jig fishing, always ! I have no confidence in a bare jig and I also think the trailer is the most important part of the jig as far as fish interest is concerned. The jig itself as a good functional use (snagless....)
  2. Weren't the grass carps that are now invading the Mississippi river and its backwaters also supposed to be sterile ? I hope you guys fix that big problem. I personally think those grass suckers shouldn't be allowed as a weed-control fish. They don't have their place in our ecosystem (Europe or the US for that matter). Funny stuff, they are called "Carpe Amour" here... Amour meaning "love" in French .... well, I hate them Not the fish's fault of course !
  3. Congratulations to your friend ... Would you mind showing a pic, if you can get one ? @Island bassin : I hear your concern. But I guess the ones that just fish to eat as much as they can won't see any occasion to change their behaviors in the tough drough you guys are experiencing right now.... I guess they will rather take advantage of large numbers of fish desperately swimming in what's left of your impoundments. So sad, guess it would happen it also.
  4. Come on ! We ain't bashing the thread. We're just voicing our opinions. I have personally used Iron Silk in white, and low visibility green... and in different poun-test. I understand your point that you were just sharing a bargain you found on that particular line. I think your thread wasn't originally created to confront opinions on this item.... but I guess that's what a forum is all about. I'm not bashing the guys that love Iron Silk. That's the way fishing works...for some a bait is gold, for others it's crap ! At least, those who thought about benefiting from the bargain have the pros and cons to make their own point of view. IMHO, Iron silk would be good for people starting baitcasting.... If you know you're prone to do a lot of backlashes... and that seems to be a good cheap choice of line. BTW GitRdone ..... a fan of Larry the cable guy ?
  5. No offense to Muddy ! I don't know him personally. I guess I should have my crack painted in Sexy Shad... that seems like the must-have color :
  6. Sure the sexy shad pattern looks nice to our human eyes. But hey, does someone know for sure whether bass (let alone fish) see shades of colors the way we do ? I don't know.... And that's why I tend not to focus too much on colors. At least not on very subtil changes in colors. For instance, I don't see a difference between a pearl white, a matt white, a NC Shell White ........ What could be "whiter" than White ? my 2 cents
  7. Anyway they have beautiful colors. What's the biggest bass ever caught in Croatia ? Is there any such thing as an official record ? Max
  8. Hi, Not sure what you exactly want to do ? What do you mean by making crankbaits ? Starting them from scratch and carving them from wood or just painting blank-bodies .... Cause the link here as a nice selection of 2-parts plastic bodies. http://www.luremaking.com/catalogue/catalogue-index/catalogue-items/crankbaits/divers.htm As for wood, (if you want to carve them) I usually buy mine in supply-store Here are a few links ! http://www.zwpi.com/sportinggoods.htm http://www.upnorthoutdoors.com/stamina/plugs_hardware.html Hope it helps.
  9. Ok Thanks for the clarification. I guess C&R will have to become mandatory in the coming years, provided you still have water. I hope you get water very soon. :-/
  10. Ok thanks for the input... cause I vaguely recall a website named charris-fishing something, where they had pictures with many dead bass... of course I'm not judging them by any means (since you said you're approx. 50 bass fishermen in Cyprus, they might as well be friends of yours). But I remember that the picture with the biggest fish were often taken in the kitchen... too bad ! Too bad you have a lot of aliens killing the resource too, we tend to have a lot of problems with romanians and chinese people, but french are not innocent either. Too many french still kill too much and even snag bass on beds. :'(
  11. I totally agree with Roadwarrior. I've used Iron silk at some point, and it breaks easily, I mean the knot-strenght is really poor.. The castability was ok.... But I prefer to pitch close and bring the fish back to the boat without breaking the line : I wouldn't advise Iron Silk to any one..
  12. holy molly..it's like the biggest drop in water level I've ever seen in a lake that is not being drained for reconstruction purposes. :-/ I too feel sorry for you. Do Cyprians eat a lot of them bass themselves ?
  13. MaxDal replied to T-rig's topic in Fishing Reports
wow my mistake ! Spring fever is still a long way ... Last year I caught a bass slow rolling a 1/2 Single Colorado on Dec. 28. And the water wast just above the freezing point.
  14. Ok Island Bassin, I'll trust you on that one, since you've been there (as you mentioned in a previous thread). I guess I was misinformed, sorry about that. Singapore is being kicked out the list
  15. MaxDal replied to T-rig's topic in Fishing Reports
good bass daniel ! Spring fever isn't that far away now... How cold is the water in this beautiful lake right now ?
  16. @Fishwhiz : That would have to be the Plitvicka Jezera National Park, or ? You have nice bass in croatia ! How are the populations there ? Bass in every ponds, lakes and swamp or just in a couple particular spots ?
  17. wow they look very good ! Be sure to post some fish caught on them 8-)
  18. Thanks for your 2 cents Reelmechanic. Really nice of you ! 8-) I love that rod's action just don't like the guides sitting that high, would have prefered lower SIC guide but hey seeing the costs you're describing, I guess I'll stick to the flippin' stick as it is Maybe it would be easier to just find the blank.... who makes daiwa blanks ? Thx again Max
  19. Beautiful hawg ! And very nice colors too .... Congratulations to you for all those huge bass you've caught in the past. 8-)
  20. I personaly use baitcasting like 80% of the time and swith to spinning gear for light applications such as drop-shot, split shot, small weightless, tiny jigs, shaky and stuff. I have to admit though that the vast majority of fishermen around here still rely on spinning gear for most of their fishing applications. I know that baitcasting was used a lot in the first half of the century here (well baitcasting as they knew it at least). Then the spinning took the lead.... But baitcasting is making a come back ..... and people tend to buy a lot of jdm products, (which is a pity to my opinion, since we now have a lot of people that are tackle junkies but barely go fishing).....
  21. I have been a proud B.A.S.S member for some years now, and eventhough I don't agree with everything ESPN has done or is currently doing, I will continue supporting the cause of bass. My only regret, is that since it is almost impossible to get ESPN 2 over here, I have to watch the classic live online every year. I do thank B.A.S.S for this solution to watch it. But even last year we had some on-the-water footage, at least 5 minutes for the top guns...... This year was only pure on-the-stage show. I love the way B.A.S.S is trying to reach out to a brand new not-fishing-aware audience, but they should not forget what forms the core of their members ... Bass Fishermen, who wants to see more fishing than show... At least that's what I would like. Thanks anyway to B.A.S.S, without which I could not get Bassmaster magazine and could not see the classic weigh-in live.
  22. Impressive catch ! Awesome... 8-) Funny, but I thought it would be much bigger than 12lbs... I'm gonna trust the official weight on this one. The picture is good too.
  23. Hey funny ideas you've got here ! Brings back memory of when I was in St Cyr Cadet Highschool ..... The Fire Drill you mentionned went to be often used. But we had others like : The "Orangina" : you basically shake the locking armoire/wardrobe of your roommate so that everything inside goes against the door... when he opens the doors, everything should fall...... even funnier if the guy had perfume or beer bottles inside : Using water-balloons or water-filled condoms, you put them gently between the bed sheets or the sheet and the blanket, usually when you come back exhausted, you have a good chance at falling on your bed... that's when the balloons come into play :-? When your roommate is sleeping, gently fill his hands with shaving cream and then tickle his nose with a feather.... chances are, he's going to rub his face ! Weird way to wake up ... and the nasty one .... Find a stinky french cheese (that's not hard, they all stink) and put it somewhere where it should not be found easily. The best spot being the heather (often checked though). Not a short-time prank, but if you can put it behind the heater that should accelerate the process I bet you've already done most of those too
  24. wow dave ! That's a really nice one. I'll have to give that photo-finish technique a try someday Very nice ....It'll sure catch a ton of fish. 8-)
  25. Lucky Craft RC 2.5 : Purple perch or Bull Bream
