  1. Caught this smallie today, I dropped my scales and didn't realize it until I caught this one. I caught a couple that were in the 1 1/2 pound range, but this one was a good bit bigger, I figured it would go over 2, but I'm not sure, but I am sure it's my pb smallie though, this is the first time I've been smallie fishing since I was in my early teens.
  2. Well that's a nice solution, and it should save the ones the keeper broke off of. Thank you.
  3. Has anyone else had issues with the wire keeper coming off? I had 3 hooks lose the keeper today, and looking at one of them it doesn't look like the solder or weld penetrated the hook at all? Just wondering if it's just me or if maybe it's a quality control issue?
  4. My situation is similar to yours. I bought a cheap rod, it broke for no apparent reason, so I took it back to Walmart and exchanged it for a wright and McGill drop shot rod. I love this rod, it balances great with my Pflueger president, and it has plenty of back bone. I thought about upgrading but I honestly don't see a reason to get something different when what I have now works good for me.
  5. I tried working a frog with my left hand, it looked like the frog had a drinking problem! I bought my first baitcaster a few weeks ago and it's a left hand reel. To many years of using a spinning reel I guess?
  6. Got out for a couple hours before the weather moved in. Decided to try Big Walnut for some smallmouth. I caught all these on the Ned Rig, using the big TRD. The third one weighed in at 1 1/2 pounds. Can anybody estimate the weight of this one? I dropped my scales and didn't realize until I caught him. I'm guessing he'll go for over 2, but I'm not sure, regardless, this is definitely my pb smallmouth!
  7. Caught my first swimbait bass today using a Yamamoto heart tail shad, caught me a whopper, he had to be at least 10" long? That was a couple minutes after my wife told me that bait was to big and I wouldn't catch anything on it...
  8. The wife and I went to the cabelas in Dundee mi, it's a really nice store. The one in fishers/nobelsville doesn't have as much to see. I got to visit the bps in Clarksville a couple weeks ago, my first trip to a bps, it was definitely nice. I've got to get to the one in Missouri sometime, I've wanted to go there since I was a kid.
  9. I can't say this works for outboards, but a truck for finding a vacuum leak on a car is to spray a little carb cleaner around vacuum lines and if the engine bogs down its sucking in the carb cleaner. It will get you in the right place to find the bad hose.
  10. I got a limited edition for Father's Day this year and I'm really happy with it. Is it worth the extra money? I don't know, but I do enjoy mine, and it's a great looking reel. I also like that it has the year on it, so I can tell you exactly how long it lasts
  11. As a guy that used a spincast a lot for a few years, I'll go along with everyone else and say to skip on the spincast. I have a Pflueger setup that my beautiful bride uses when she goes with me, but my Pflueger president LE spinning reel puts it to shame with casting distance and smoothness. My old, cheap quantum baitcaster will make them both look bad if I do my part
  12. I've never left a rod anywhere, but I did leave a small box full of Ned rig hooks and other technique specific terminal tackle laying on a picnic table not to long ago. I went back the next day when I realized what I had done but it was long gone.
  13. I can sleep in the back of the truck, but the wife is only going to fall for that once
  14. Man I was in the same proverbial boat as you. I was always the "throw a worm in and be surprised" kind of fisherman, in the last couple months I have gained a wealth of knowledge, thanks to this site and YouTube. I read a lot of bass fishing magazines when I was a kid, but nothing gets the point across like seeing someone do it!
  15. I've got one that I've been using exclusively since May. It's been solid and smooth, granted I haven't put hundreds of hours on it, but I'm very happy with mine.
  16. "No eating, no driving fishing"
  17. X2 I have good success with red shad senkos for lmb around here though.
  18. It's Glen's fault, he has one of those voices that makes me sleepy. He's always calm and mellow.
  19. My first cave in to the bait monkey. Ordered some Ned rig tackle to replace my small box of stuff I lost the other day, and picked up some stuff at a couple tackle stores the wife let me visit today. I'm excited to try those Yamamoto swimbaits, they looked like they had great action. Oh yeah, got some drop shot stuff, I'm excited to try that out to.
  20. Amateurs... 55.5. Got to go for that symmetry!
  21. Ok, I'm probably missing something obvious, but why does the visibility go up the deeper your going? Is it sediment being stirred by the fish or current?
  22. I could deal with Minnesota summers and Florida winters, year round shorts weather! Maybe when I hit the lotto
  23. Man, I'd be afraid I wouldn't come back until spring if I left here to go somewhere warm to fish!
