2016 ICAST Leaks/Wish List
I know that St Croix will work with you from personal experience. Broke a Premier rod that just shattered in year 6 of a 5 year warranty. When I called I explained that it cracked during a cast and I had no idea why? They could of just said I was SOL but they wanted to examine the rod to see what happened so they ask me to send it back. I paid $90 for that rod and it cost like $15 to ship it to them and they sent me a $50 certificate for a new rod which was great on their part. To many people were abusing the system which is what changed the warranty system. If you do not break a rod in the first couple of trips than it is your fault not the rod manufacturer. Like others have mentioned I would like to see some smaller frogs that could be used for SM. I picked up a couple smaller live target ones that I hope will work on the river around here. Allen

What to do with old tackle
You use to be able to recycle old line at tackle stores? Like mentioned I put hooks in some sort of bottle and then into the trash. Allen

do you trust the recommendations from the tackle shop?
I have helped people that were told something wrong by the employees of Dick's, Gander Mountain, and BPS. Helped a few customers at a Gander Mountain one time and was approached by the manager for it. He said I was his most helpful employee according to the customers but I didn't work there. Offered me a job on the spot since I was more helpful than the two guys actually working the fishing department. Allen

Rebel
I would like to have a pack of Red Neck worms and some 4" ring worms in whatever color you can spare. Let me know what you want In trade and we can work something out. Allen

Snapping Turtles
I have caught them on both jigs and creature baits around here. When you first set the hook you think you are snagged on the bottom. Try pulling on the line and it feels like you hooked a log that you can drag to the boat to retrieve the lure. Once they decide they don't want to come into the boat they start swimming which then feels like a catfish death roll. If you are fishing for catfish with live bait just cut the line because they have swallowed the hook. Lures it is hard to get the barb into their mouth since it is so hard. Generally I just give them a lot of slack and the bait pops free. Allen

Heavy Duty Wacky Jigs
I am going to have to try some of the 1/0 for a different experiment I have going. Allen

expensive jigs
So I use and lose a lot of jigs so for me they have to be cost effective. Years ago I could not find the Eakins Jewel Jigs that were my favorite once I moved back from Missouri so I started making them. Now I make 95% of the jigs I fish with because I know what I like. A lot of the heads I personally pour but the ones I use for flippin jigs I bought in bulk with a 4/0 Gamakatsu 5941 hook. Picked up 500 3/8 and 500 1/2oz for like $0.45 each so I am set for awhile. Favorite Fluke color?
They make them in colors besides albino and pearl white? I use albino in really clear water and pearl white any other time. Now I do want to try some in GP and solid black but have not seen them. Does Zoom even make those colors? Allen

Senkos - What is your favorite non standard color?
Generally I use 5 colors of senkos and a wild card. Main colors: Green Pumkin,, watermelon, smokeish, whiteish, junebug. Besides the 5 main colors I will carry one or two bags of colors that may work? On the days that any color works these are what I use or I throw a KO. Allen

Jig making start up cost
There are several different melting pots and molds to choose from and costs could vary? I recommend buying some poured heads to start with and building on them. Pouring lead is the most dangerous thing I do in lure making and I am hesitant about giving advice to a 15 year old on messing with lead. Start out small and see if you like making jigs before you invest too much into jig building. Allen

Heavy Duty Wacky Jigs
Those hooks are crazy sharp and I will have to try them now that I know they are made in smaller sizes. Allen

Hard bait lip - super glue vs epoxy?
Devcon 2 ton epoxy 30 minute is what I use. Super glue gel is great for weedguards but Devcon mixed properly will attach oil to water permanently. Allen

Lost all my Tackle where do I start?
It's illegal in nine countries... Yep, it's made with bits of real panther, so you know it's good. = Brian Fantana

Color combination question
In that situation I go with translucent colors like smoke and watermelon. We have a place here called Deep Creek Lake that you can tell which side a coin is on in 30 FOW. Allen

Having trouble fishing jigs
This is what I have to try and explain to people learning to fish jigs! Get use to what the jig feels like on most casts and when something feels different it is a fish. Allen

Best trophy bass bait
Swiimbaits if you know how to fish them but I don't. Of the 10 biggest fish I have caught 6 were on a jig or t-rigged creature bait. The other 4; buzzbait, wake crankbait, senko, and a spinnerbait for honorable mention. If I had to pick just one it would be a jig as the fish I catch are larger on average. Allen

Lost all my Tackle where do I start?
Sex Panther, 60% of the time it works every time! Allen

Color combination question
Color matters but after bass fishing for awhile I have narrowed down to a few main stays. Having fished in 9 different states I have only found one body of water where GP did not work in soft plastics. So besides that pond on FT. Leonard Wood it has worked everywhere else so it is my go-to color. Sometimes adding an accent helps to dial them in but most the time basic colors work. Allen

Popper Identification
Baby Bass one is a Kinami spit-n-splash popper. The other one I have seen before but cannot remember what it is called. Allen

Chatterbait making= The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat
So I have been trying to make some of my own chatterbaits with mixed results. The painted head is a Phoenix casting jig that I tried opening up the eyelet to put a blade on. As you can see I broke several trying with a punch so that did not work well for me. The bottom bait is a 30 degree hook poured into an a sparkie do-it mold that worked quite well. I have never caught a fish on one of these baits but since I like to tinker I figured I would give it a shot. Allen

High End vs. Budget Lures
I don't get on RS much anymore for some reason? Allen

High End vs. Budget Lures
Those are my top two crankbaits hands down! The LC 1.5 overtook the Bandit 100 in general but the Bandit still rules on the river. My top 10 cranks (and yes I own most of them) in about the order they work best for me: 1. LC 1.5 Silent 2. Bandit 100 or 200 (depends on depth) 3. Manns Baby 1- 4. Rebel Deep Wee-R 5. LC BDS 1.2 6. SK 5 series (silent) 7. TD shallow crank with titanium bill (forget the actual name but it is discontinued unfortunately) 8. SK 1.5 (I may not give this enough credit and TOW as I have a lot of the RC baits to throw) 9. TD Scouter Crank 10. Jackall Zero Footer Honorable mention: Bagely Sunfish, Excaliber fat free shad Allen

Jig Skirts!
Personally I go through fazes where my jigs have to be 6 colors but most of the time I keep things simple. GP, watermelon, brown, black, and maybe some orange in the square cut silicone skirting. When I want a bulkier jig I use Starflash skirts in black, brown, or some combination on the two. My favorite big bass skirt material was called hydro and it is no longer available so the skirts I have left generally only come out when money is on the line. Allen

High End vs. Budget Lures
While I cannot see what type of lures are in the link from past experience those cranks usually suck. It is not worth my time and frustration to buy a $2 crank that I spend all day tuning. Allen
