  1. Enjoy your Christmas and remember why we have it. That day of year when we get to connect with our familys and put all else aside is pretty special. I think all of us are lucky in here that do what we do. Whether you fish out of a $300.00 dollar tin boat with a 9.9hp,along a bank somewhere or in a new $55,000 Bullet with a 300hp Yamaha, its all good. We do not sit in front of a TV in the mornings when we are not working or fixing our homes, we spend time in nature. Fishing is great but, think of the peripherals that go along with those days. Seeing deer and turkeys along with all the other wildlife or just enjoying outselves and laughing with a friend is priceless. We are lucky. Merry Christmas to everyone in here and God Bless. Jim

It just does not get any better than that. I would say Alpster is a truly good man. Guys like this are far and few in between nowadays. I am lucky to have friends like this as well. You are truly blessed to have him for a friend. I would bet that the rod he built you is priceless. Be sure to put a decent reel on that rod like a Shimano or Abu Garcia ;D
  3. I agree with Maltese Falcon, buy the Abu Garcia 4600. The 30" line recovery is perfect for buzzbaits and it is a very reliable reel. Good luck.

I am staying low key here as I was misunderstood not long back on a post and try not to write or answer too many post but, I had to write this one. I have only been watching this post for a short while but to me, you are a valuble person in here and I have seen you help a lot of people. Your years of experiance are worth their weight in gold. You helped put me on the right track on a few questions I had. Merry Christmas to you and your family. God Bless. Jim
  5. OK, you will always be Munkin to me then. Yes, ol' Larry certainly will tell you how good he is,lol. I am not a decent fisherman, I just have tenacity and will not let up on them!!! We are leaving in a few to go to Four Locks. George has never gotten a big smallie here and I am going to try to put him on one this morning. They have been in the long point below the ramp past the culverts. It seems the big ones have been hanging deep in the grass about half way out on that point in about 8-15' deep. Flukes in white and dark tubes have been the ticket there. Hope that helps. Go get them and good luck.
  6. That incident happened on the Susquehanna in PA. The life jacket laws here are, from Nov.5 to May 15, you have to have one on at all times. Yes, I fish here some. Mostly at Four locks lately because of my schedule. Its close to home. I only live a stones throw from the Potomac. I like Little Orleans the best up on this part of the river as well as from Hancock up to Little Orleans. Other than that I like Whites Ferry and Edwards Ferry. We had a great day at Four Locks last Sunday. Some real good fish. I ran into Zack, I know you know that nut, I say that in a good way. He is a good guy. Awesome on those smallies at the Susky. Don't tell him I said that. I also ran into Jim Root that day, another great guy whom does a lot for the Junior Bassmasters in this area. I have a bad leg that is ready to get cut again and we have been fishing out of my buddies boat lately, Skeeter 90/65 Yamaha Jet that is beige. If you see us come over and BS. It would be great to meet you. If we are in my boat I have a grey Xpress with a 70/55 Evinrude Jet. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Colt Python Elite .357 mag Ruger Super Redhawk .44 mag I like revolvers and the two above shoot real well. Also, if you want a auto check into the Sig 229 in .40 cal.
  8. Back in the old days, at least, when I was a kid, we used to make prop guards out of 4 prong hoes and attach them with big hose clamps. I have seen those guards and I would say they are better than nothing. I am not sure what kind or size of motor you have but, in the old days most of us had 10 and 15 hp motors--I had a old Johnson 25 I used around here and they had shear pins. If it does hit the prop you will propably just shear a pin but, still might do some damage to the prop. We used to hit so much in low water that we started cutting up brazing rod for shear pins. Have you ever considered Jet Drive? To the point, some protection is better than none. www.sonarsearch.com/Jets.htm
  9. Hey, how you doing there Allen, errr I mean, Munkin. How did you come up with Munkin?,lol. No, I was only thrown out once----Taylors Landing, surprise, surprise!!! Larry is a frequent flyer!!!,lol. Yep, he is the best in Washington County and I am the 5,233rd best here, lol. We have been rockin them----you? Current breaks, chunk rock, residual grass is the magic formula. Strange though, we have been getting some real good green bass right along with the brown ones in the same areas. I have not run into that before, at least not as much as we have lately. Good fishin. Glad to here from ya and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
  10. Well first of all two of my best friends are UPS drivers and that is always what I say to them. Second, it was meant to get a rise out of you and purely as a tongue and cheek thing. I expected a comeback since everyone is always joking around in here. No, I am not rude. Far from it. I know the feeling of working all those hours since I work in a ER. I went in at 3:40am this morning and just got home at 9:41 pm. I think you guys do a great job or the Doc's wouldn't use UPS. After some of the returns I think I wore out my welcome. Again, it was meant to see what your comeback would be. Didn't mean for you to take it the wrong way and after all the ribbing in here I sure did not expect the nasty returns. Ya'll take it easy, and good luck fishing. Tootles.
  11. Baitcaster---#12-#17 Big Game. Spinning---#8 Silver Thread or Super Silver Thread.
  12. I use Fed Ex, they are a faster, better company and more reliable. :-? ;D
  13. Yes, and Thin Lizzy!!!!
  14. Why don't you get some craft hair and jigheads and tie your own. It is not that hard.
  15. VAbacklash, Thanks for reminding my feeble mind. The KILL SWITHCH is certainly something to remember. It is a most important component and is very important to the guys whom run Jet Drives with stick steering and sit up front. I always hook my lanyard to my seat from my control box so I don't forget it. I knew everyone in here would remember some things that my old brain would forget, thanks.
  16. I have never had a problem with the palomar as of yet. I have never used a cinch knot either. I think I will look into this more. I just started with the dropshot a couple of years ago and do not use it very oftern but, it has worked well for me in gin clear water. I usually run my loop through the eye twice when I tie my hook on my DS rig using a palomar and let about a 8" tag end. Thanks, I will check it out.
  17. Please, don't let your children use braid. Braid is bad, repeat, braid is bad. It is good for putting up wind chimes on your deck though, I will admit that, lol.
  18. I can solve this problem for you, either buy Shimano or Abu Garcia, lol.
  19. Welcome !!!!
  20. Welcome, its great to have another jig flipper here. Nothing like flippin a jig!!!!
  21. I bought some Baby Brushhogs a few years ago for something different and did not use them much. I was on the Susquehanna in PA on day fishing for smallmouth in the summer and could not buy a bite in the low, clear, warm water. I put on a Baby Brushhog in P&B and fished them around the grass beds and cleaned up. I had them rigged on #8 test on a spinning reel along with a 1/0 and 2/0 hook T rigged with a 1/8oz wt. and it saved the day. Why they worked, I don't know. Maybe it was just something different but, it worked that day and many days since.
  22. Thanks, and don't forget, Todd Rungren(www.newsletter.isp-direct.com/ToddRundgren.html ) and Herbie Hancock, that was some good stuff as well.
  23. Small world, I work in the ER here at the local hospital. You have made another good point. I started bringing along a change of cloths and a towel for that reason. When I was thrown out the water was not that cold, probably about in the 55-60 degree range and the water was only knee deep but, the ramp was six miles down river and it was a cold ride. My dog was thrown out as well that day. I swear I heard him call me a idiot, lol. I don't think people understand how fast you can get hypothermia and just how dangerous it is. Not just for the elderly man I spoke of but, for anyone in a cold water situation. Here are a couple of good first aid sites along with some info. www.mayoclinic.com/health/first-aid-hypothermia/FA00017 www.boat-ed.com/pa/course/p5-3_personalinjuries.htm#Hypothermia
  24. Garnett--- Two four pound smallies at the same time would give you a problem, lol. Not a bad problem to have though. Evidently you were on the them, lol. Earthworm 77--- I trust the Palomar knot but, that is a good question. Really you have a Palomar with a long tag, right? I have to think about that. I wish I could get a few of those double fours so I could check this scenario out more, lol.
