  1. They say use rattles in dingy to muddy water or in grass but, not in clear water. Like I said, they say. Personaly, I use them all the time. I even use rattles in my tube jigs for smallmouth. We make them out of Mickey Dees straws and bird shot up here.
  2. Frank Marino and Robin Trower. Dang, they were good. I was dating a girl from England in the late 70's and we had a lot of great nights listening to the Robin Trower album, what was it?, brain fart here, Bridge Over Sighs? Come on guys, help a brother out. Ah yes, the girl from Enland, that English accent, hot d**n, she sure was pretty!!!! Have not thought of her in awhile.
  3. Thanks RW. Trust me, it is not always that good this time of year. We just had a decent day. It is that time of year here for good ones. The average day here can be between 25-100 and I have had 130 fish days. I have also had no fish days, two fish days and so on, LOL. Most of the time for two guys at this water temp it is like 18-35. Sometimes 3-4lbs with a five here and there, and sometimes 8-10 inchers, lol. You know how that can be. I agree with you, what is the point in having all of this expensive equipment and use cheap terminal tackle like hooks. I was impressed with what I read. I am sure they will be my new hook of choice. Nice talking with you and thanks again---Jim.
  4. I am a guide but, today just went fishing for fun with a friend and ran into a friend of mine on the river whom was doing a trip who told me a story in which I seem to hear every year. We run Jet Boats with 90/65 motors and the steering is done with a stick. We sit on the front of the boat to drive. The water today was between 39-42 degrees. Last week he rescued a man whom was in a Jet ,as well, and hit a ledge and was thrown out in shoulder high water. He was a older gentleman and could not get back in the boat. My friend watched this happen and it only took him 3 or 4 minutes to get to the guy. In that short period of time the guy was wild eyed and talking incoherent. It was warm that day so all he had on was a sweatshirt---NO LIFE JACKET. I have only been thrown out once in my time but, let me tell you, a boat wide open in six inches of water in a lot of places is a accident waiting to happen. To get to the point, when the water is that cold it would not matter if you were in a glass boat, jet boat or a canoe. You might trip, or flip over in the rapids or whatever, but, falling into that cold of water will shut you down quick. If my friend had not seen this accident happen I feel the man would have died right there. Hold your arm in water that cold up to your elbow and tell me how long you can keep in in there. You can complain about life jackets but, if you are in my boat this time of year you will wear them, period. I do not like them either but, I wear them. In the summer I take mine off but, when the gas motor is running I put one on. This time of year, everyone should put one on and keep it on until the end of the day. Sorry for the ramble but, I just do not want to see anyone get hurt and it is nice to get reminded once in awhile. Thanks---Jim
  5. Cavitron Buzz Bait Super Spook Jr. Rico Spittin Image, I had to add that one.
  6. Thanks RW for the site. I will try them. If what they say is true it will be my new hook of choice. How are the smallies down there by the way? I just got back and we had 64 and not one under 3-2. The water was 39-42. Dark mellon purple flake salty tubes, 1/4 jighead with rattle. Eight to twenty five feet of eddie water. I hope they are doing as well for you smallie guys down there. Good luck.
  7. Sharp hooks, and don't be bashful on the hookset. I don't fool around on my hooksets. I get a ribbing some time because of it but, when I set the hook, I set the hook. Lay out 25yrds of fishing line and tie it to someting. Then get back and pull on it. Feel that stretch? You have to compensate for that. You also mentioned that you might be waiting too long? What are you waiting for? My one buddy does that--- there he is, there he is, he winds up a little, there he is, then sets the hook. It makes me crazy. I will say this and probably take a beating for it. When I feel anything unusual, a tick, bump, mushy feeling, weightless feeling or anything out of the ordinary than what I think I should be feeling I set the hook, like RIGHT NOW !!!! The only time I give it a split second is when I am using big 12" or 15" worms. Other than that I quick draw them, period. Good luck. P.S.-You said you use a no stretch line? Please tell me its not braid. Listen to Ol' Uncle Jim, throw that stuff in the trash can------Look out !!!! Incoming!!!!!!
  8. Gamakatsu for EWG, Owner for straight offsets and Excaliber in trebles. I don't do much hood sharpening. I might dress them up a little once in awhile but, if my hook is getting dull I put on a factory fresh hook.
  9. LOL, thats funny, I think Bass fisherman said it all, lol.
  10. I hear that Munkin. It certainly can make a difference. When I am in the flippin the the thick, Hydrilla Mat modes, I use a 1/2--1 oz jig. I want that jig rushing down by them for that reation strike. I love to watch that line JUMP!!!!!
  11. Have you noticed a trend here? Everyone has a "room" dedicated to all their fishing equipment. I have a " computer room ", at least that was what I call it since I redid it last year. It consist of a small PC desk with my laptop and then the rest of the room is rod racks, trophys, fishing pictures, tackle bags and everything else you can think off. The closet is a double and it is from floor to ceiling full of fishing stuff. Sometimes I ask myself,---self?---do you really need all of this crap?,LOL.
  12. Yea, thanks as well Randy, my friend has a tackle shop and as I have been throwing the 1oz and 1 1/2oz for the last few years in the mid to late summer and doing pretty well, he wants to carry them in his place.
  13. I think they work. I don't throw them much but, in the summer while night fishing I throw a Zara Spook and my buddy likes to throw a Jitterbug and he usually cleans my clock. The black seems to work well for him. I have also watched him throw those Cicadas during the day and do well, which reminds me, I need to get some of those I guess, lol.
  14. That has been hashed out so many times over the years. I tend to throw smaller when the water is below 40 but, I have been abusing that so called rule for some years now. I like big. Big tubes, big spinnerbaits, big jigs, big worms, you name it. I still throw small when it calls for it, and the only time I think this rule might apply is in a heavily fished lake, as I said in water below 40 or clear water. I have also, witnessed it being the other way around. I think you will catch more on smaller baits and you can catch some big fish on small baits but, bigger is better to up the quality in most cases, at least for me. In the summer at a local lake I throw a big 12" worm and my buddy is a 4" or 6" ringworm kind of guy. He out fishes me 6or7-1 most of the time but, I have caught over 30 fish in that little 200 acre impoudment in the five to six pound range and he has never gotten one over 4lb4oz. Luck?, maybe. I still think it is the big worm that does it. By the way, that 12" worm is a BPS Tournament Series in either, Green Pumpkin, Watermelon Red Flake or Red Shad, it depends on the water color or if it is night or day. The RS has done really well on those hot mid July and August dust to dawn trips. I also throw the 7 1/8 Stik-O's ( Senko type bait ) wacky on a 3/0 EWG. I use a 4/0 or 5/0 EWG when rigging the worm and use anywhere from weightless up to a 1/4oz bullet wt.
  15. Gitzit or should I say tube? You can flip it like a jig in the heavy stuff, T-rig it, C-rig it, use it weightless like a Senko, fish it deep, shallow, use it on a dropshot rig, etc, etc. It can handle about any scenario you can think of for green or brown bass.
  16. I think a good old fashioned debate is healthy. It is nice to know that we can do it in here in a adult manner. Every year my girlfriend along with five of our friends and their wives go to Chincoteage Island in Virginia a couple of times of year to do some flounder fishing and eat seafood until it comes out of our ears. In the evenings on the deck over a bottle of wine or a couple of beers the guys usually get into a heated debate about some world affair and the girls always think we will never speak again. The next morning we get up joking and laughing getting ready for a day of flounder fishing and the ladies always laugh at us and call us a bunch of idiots. Friends allow friends to have opinions and let it at that.
  17. I forgot to put one of my favorites in and you mentioned them, Mahogany Rush was fantastic !!!
  18. Unh,huh, I hear ya but, I JUST WANT TO SEE A ALBINO BASS, is that too much to ask?, LOL
  19. Thanks, it looks like it would be a fantastic place for some fly rod action.
  20. I have a hard time getting them within two zip codes of me during bow season and this kid has them chasing him down !!!
  21. That is just wrong. Why on earth would they want to do this. Sad. The only time I do not have a problem with it is if the Inuits do it, and then I am not happy about it but, they use it for food and it is steeped deeply in their culture.
  22. To all the old farts in here that did the 60'and 70', its like Vegas, what happened then stays in that era. Our kids are on a need to know basis, lol.
  23. Nice add ons Matt. My brother in law and best friend are in the old Kix band, which is now Funny Money ( they just put a new CD out, built it,cut it,produced it themselves) and he turned me on to Captain Beyond. I am a big fan lately of Joe Bonamasa. I think that is how it is spelled. I saw him last summer in Hagertown. He is a fantastic guitar player and writer. I am an old timer and really thought someone would remember Budgie and Babe Ruth as well. Take care, off to put some new strings on my 12, in which is a real pain in the a** to keep tuned, lol.
  24. In baitcasters I am 99.9% a MH guy but, about two years ago for my bday a friend gave me a Extreme BPS 6'6" med 8-17 lb line baitcasting rod. I have to admit, it is a great rod for Senkos. I have caught a ton of fish on this rod. They are reasonable too at 99.00.
