Question on line guide size and placement on rods.
I am attempting to put it all together on my first rod build. I have done all my research ---splines,handles, blanks, etc. I know that my first build is going to be a learning process so, I am not too intimidated but, I have read so much on guide placement and some of the things I have read have been conflicting in the placement of guides. I would feel better if I could get some imput from some of the guys, as well as, some different opinions in order to generate my own. After much reading and taking measurments on some of my rods in different lengths, actions and wts. I am a little curious, and quite frankly, somewhat confused, in which isn't a new feeling for me,lol. I am sure these are generic formula's I am reading about on placement, as well as size, of line guides for spinning rods, bait casters and fly rods are fine but, I am looking for some experiance and suggestions. I am going to keep my first build simple and starting out with a spinning rod with a tenn. handle in which I prefer anyway. Thanks, this would be appreciated.

ok spinnerbait people question.
I am a spinnerbait fan as they have served me well over the years and some of my biggest fish have been caught while throwing this bait. I chose the application or venue I will be fishing first. The water color and structure I am fishing lets me decide on the type of blades I will use. Murky to muddy water and night time is time for a Indiana or Colorado style blade. This gives more vibration and water displacement and zones in on a basses lateral line. If I am fishing wood I like a slightly larger--no. 4 or so willowleaf blade to give my bait some rise when coming through the branches. If I feel I am getting slightly hung up I just raise my rod somewhat to "lift" my lure across the barrier. I choose smaller willowleaf or indiana blades for fishing in the heavy grass or if I want to " burn it ". Most of my smallmouth fishing is done in fast water and I tend to use a small willowleaf for less resistance against the flow. I tend to use 1/4 to 3/8 in water 4' or less and move up to 1/2 to 3/4 in water that is in the 4' to 10' range. I use heavy 1oz-1 1/2oz on deep drop offs, channels, and points usually in early prespawn and mid to late summer. The only time I do not use a trailer hook is when fishing wood , as in, fallen trees or heavy trash. I use a trailer practically all the time other than this instance. Spinnerbaits are a reaction bait so I do not go overboard on colors. If there are shad I like a white with blue glimmer. If there are perch and bluegills I might use a chartruese, white, black mix. I do use black at night and early morning or late evening from time to time and it can really be a good color pitching under docks and duck blinds as well. I don't think the question of light wire vs heavy wire has ever truly been answered as to the vibration action it lends your baits. I am sure there is information and opinions out there if you wanted to get scientific about it but, I like to keep my fishing fairly simple. I always felt that the blade confiquration took care of the vibration aspect. My opinion is use good spinnerbaits made with quality stainless steel or titanium. The main thing is to keep them " tuned ". Keep the blades in line with your hook. Also, I use a short armed spinnerbait when I occasionally use a spinnerbait with a flipping technique or a free fall technique on the outside of deeper grassbeds. I use mostly gold blades and switch to nickel if the sun is bright and is getting high. For smallmouth I like to use a chartruese blade simply because they seem to like that color. I read in a above post about having a smaller kicker in flo. red. I use these as well in discolored water and they work great. Most of my personal baits are made by Bigmouth Spinnerbaits---www.bigmouthlures.com,Wareagle---www.wareaglelures.com. I also like to keep plenty of blades and skirts on hand to customize and adapt. Good luck.

Any Dermatologists
I agree everyone. You need to go to Urgent Care. It could be tens of dozens of things but, you will not know if you don't seek a professional opinion. I was just asking questions about what I typically see all the time at the emergency room. I have seen so many people come in and tell us they have a rash, swelling, cyst, itching and burning , etc and when you ask how long this condition has been present they will say days or weeks. This is your body system telling you there is something wrong so address it. Soon. Let us know you are OK. You don't have to tell me whats wrong, thats confidential but, I would like to know that you were tended to and the situation is being addressed.

Motorguide vs MinnKota
Yea, its 82 because it is older. I run three 27's for thirty six volt. I will be honest, I have never had a problem with motorguide. I put a lot of hard eight hour days in fast water with that motor on trips. I guess when she gives up the ghost I will talk to some of the guys whom bought MK and see. Thanks for everyones imput. Its always good to get other points of view and war stories. Good fishin. Dizzy, you are above us in Wilksboro, Cool. I am mostly Montgomerys Ferry, Duncannon,Front Street, City Island area. May your clients rods stay bent.

"The Truth About Light Tackle"
Thanks for the heads up on this article. It was well written as well as well rounded. It covered all the bases. The writer obviously knows his stuff. I use both light and heavy tackle but, for river fishing and fast water as well as in the gin clear lakes of Western Maryland light tackle is what you have to use. I have caught some #6+ green bass fishing light tackle and a ton of smallies in the #5-#6 range over the years on #6 and #8 line. I really didn't like spinning rods until about 15 years ago but, I have to admit it has made a difference in my fishing. That Stradic and #8 test certainly fill a lot of the venues I fish. Opps, did I mention Shimano Stradic? , am I bad ?, lol.

Goin to Cabelas who wants to meet up
Ronnie, I used to hate Cabelas as well until I went to one above Harrisburg PA. Pretty amazing. Not just for fishing but, if you are a gun buff like me those antique guns are something to see. I saw a price tag on one that if I remember right was around 40 grand, I think it was a Sharps. Pretty cool stuff. I hope you are not on the bike today !!! It is 18 at my house. My buddy called last night and cancelled our fishing this morning on the Upper Potomoc which is just down the street from me. He said he was too old for this morning and I seconded the motion. Why is it colder when you get over 50 !!!!

Internet Explorer 7 vs Mozilla Firefox
Yea, I know. When IE 7 and Firefox added tabs---as Martha Steward says ---Its a good thing---,lol. I didn't have any major issues with IE 7. I just read that the security is somewhat better with Firefox but.... they all jump on the bandwagon to beat up on microsoft. Its just too easy with all the security problems they have had over the years, lol.

If the itching continues you can purchase some Hydrocortisone cream for some relief.

Any Dermatologists
Stress can absolutly do that ---give you hives, that is. I know all about finals. I remember in college when I used to come unglued at times during finals and mid terms. I would address this soon though. Go down to the Nursing Program at your college and see if the instructors can help. I would still go for a professional diagnosis. It is probably nothing but, the sooner it is addressed the better. Good luck and if you need any more help feel free to ask.

Any Dermatologists
KU, I just reread your post and you said that you contacted your Dermotologist. Have you had previous problems with this problem or similar issues? Usually you cannot see a specialist like this unless you have a referral from your Family Physician.

Any Dermatologists
Sounds like it could be a allergic reaction going on. Have you recently changed any of your medications or taken any medications OTC recently that you have not taken before? I would go to your Family Physician or maybe you already have and he recommended you to a Dermotologist. Other than the rash have you had any more symptoms such as shortness of breath, sleeplessness, or vertigo? You can go to www.webmd.com and take a look but, if you cannot get a appointment with your family practitioner soon I would go to your local Urgent Care. Make sure you take a list of your meds with you. Contact me if you need anymore help concerning this rash. I will see if I can put you on the right path. I can call a physician friend of mine and maybe get some answers or at least narrow it down. Sounds to me like you might need a Blood Panel and or a Scratch Test for Allergens. I have been in the Health Field for many years and I hope I can a least put you on the right path.

Internet Explorer 7 vs Mozilla Firefox
I recently updated my browser from IE 6 to IE 7 and had some conflicts and problems. After researching some sites like www.pcmagazine.com and www.cnet.com I came to the conclusion to download Mozilla Firefox as my new browser and I really like it a lot. I love the tabs for my browsing.Have any of you done the same? Also, I use Yahoo email and have not had any problems but, thought about changing over to Thunderbird. Any tips or suggestions on this email program?

"Bargain" rods 'n reels
If you are talking a decent setup for around a $100.00 its hard to beat BPS combos. The Ambassadeur C3/Bionic Blade XPS combo is about 130.00 and if you wait until spring it will be cheaper. I have Curados and such but I still love my 5501's. I have a half a dozen of them. They are work horses and if taken care of will last a lifetime. For a spinning combo for around a hundred I would recommend BPS combo: Shimano Sahara/Bionic Blade 99.00 Pflueger President/Extreme XPS combo 109.00 These setups will work fine but, if I were you I would step up a little for another small amount of money you could purchase a C/3 5500 and add a All Star rod that will be better for you. Also for a spinning reel ( I am a Stradic guy ) you could buy a Shimano Sedona and add a All Star rod of your choice to it. you may spend 50.00 or more dollars doing this but, I think you would be happier with these items. Also, keep in mind that it is winter and the fishing flea markets ore coming up. We have one in Frederick Maryland in Feb. I have seen some great deals on rods and reels at this market. I am sure if you look there is one near you. Its also a good excuse to get out of the house and stop and have coffee and dinner with some friends.

Goin to Cabelas who wants to meet up
Is that the one about half hour to forty minutes past Harrisburg PA ? If it is and I am not at the hospital on shift that would be great. Its just going to be hard to go across the 81N bridge that goes over the Susquehanna without my boat !!! Post a time or date and I would try to make it.
