I'm not a shimano guy. Hving said that, the only shimano reels that I do have that I wont sell are the Stella 3000 and Core. I hate the play in the Core's handle, but it is a good,light reel. There are better reel designs from Daiwa at similar price points.

I thought like you El Grande, til recently. After ordering my first, i will be getting more. They are more akin to fine instruments.

I use a 7'1" Steez with an Alphas Ito reel. I can cast that lure a country mile with that setup.

Gan Craft rods look impressive, but I've yet to read a review on their performance. THe great thing about these Megabass rods is that they are less expensive than the Steez rods!
