  1. I don’t believe 100% in scent catch more fish but I do believe in location. I don’t even use scent for most trip. With all that said for bass, I have Megastrike, Procure, JJ magic and 3 Spike-it Pens, For crappie I have 3 jars or nibbles, powerbait attractant and Slab sauce. What else I should buy?
  2. @txchaserif you fish a lot of Fat Ika, and if you cheap like me lol. I got alternative for you. 50pk Mustad 3/0 do it mold, plus 50 twisted lock total less than 20 bucks. I use this hook for weighted Fluke and Fat Ika, otherwise just 4/0 Gama EWG hook. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Do-it_Mustad_Flipping_91768BLN_Jig_Hook_50pk/descpage-DOIT917.html https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07VSB2CV6/ref=sspa_mw_detail_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  3. They are back, been waiting for awhile. Caught about 20-30 the night before and 10 last night until the rain started pouring. d**n this SoCal weird weather. Anyway keep some 12” and this one for my wife. What size do you normally keep for crappie? I promised my wife will keep for her 11-14” and about 25-50 fish only in spring and fall.
  4. You can not compare size/line capacity indicators from different brand reel since there is no standard. When I choose the reel, I would look at physical reel size first, Weight, then line capacity. I mostly own 50/70 size shimano, and 103/105 daiwa, but have some 150 and 200 size shimano where I use bigger diameter line. You don’t really need a full 100yds as long as the reel can fill 70 yds of your preferred line, should be fine. Most of my bottom contact and finesse are small size reels, for moving bait I don’t worry much any SHIMANO reel is good lol. If line diameter is your concern then you might have to switch to braid or learn how to fish light line. BTW Daiwa are pretty optimistic about line capacity.
  5. I don’t even remember how many of fish I caught in one trip (if I caught more than a few). But I do remember for sure how many skunked I got.
  6. Hahaha just kidding, you can come anytime including your son (no school), as long as no shake hands and stay 6’ apart.
  7. I don’t know about others or your state, my trophy Bass is the bass I can be proud of.
  8. You should have told me Tom. You can show me around Canyon Lake but we have to be 6’ apart lol.
  9. XT has 4, regular has 6. Spool possibly the same size. There shouldn’t be any interfere with brake blocks after installed. It might be a good thing that you have more adjustment than 4 brake blocks. OR a bad thing that you have to worry about which setting combinations.
  10. Might not have enough room to insert nail weight to the weight you want on Fluke.
  11. It is nice to have external fine tune adjustment on SLX XT but not necessity. The mainshaft bearing can be replace pretty cheap on SLX. The difference on both spool that I can see is 4 vs 6 brake blocks on SLX. I treat SLX just like old VBS shimano set it and forget it. I never missed that external adjustment but I only use SLX for lure that 3/8oz and up. If 30 bucks is important, which is might that why you asked, I’ll just get regular SLX. Sometime the less is more. KISS keep it simple.
  12. Yes, I used wacky jig head because I don’t have any small weight with big enough hook. I tried it on chatterbait a few time and it only last a fish or two.
  13. I’m selling some of my UL line here, Nanofil 8lb and Seaguar Finesse FC 5.2lb
  14. This is one time deal for me, weighted wacky hook on the head. Fishing drop off 15-20’. It should work popping along rocky bottom. I don’t like fishing fluke any other ways but regular weightless.
  15. Depends on how light the lure? If about 1/8oz lure weight then 4lb mono will do just fine and easier to control than 6-8lb braid. If you plan on 1/16oz or lower then light braid will get you more distance.
  16. Those are beautiful fat and healthy white crappie. I wonder which one more aggressive black or white? My lake only have black crappie and seem like the spawning come to an end. Can’t find those big one no more.
  17. If it is a gator, I wouldn’t wanna know.
  18. I’m not sure if I’m with you walking around in unknown area here in SoCal. If you want more adventure, fish the LA river with either your UL or fly rod. If you like something like this check out 618 fishing video. He is the one inspired me to get back into UL fishing, after 10 plus year. My dream is to hike up hill finding wild trout. If you want, I’ll sell you my MC Speedstyle S63UL lure rating 1/64 - 3/16oz. You can try it first if this type rod the one you want. 120 that all I need.
  19. Canyon Lake is open, but I will not invite any of you guys.
  20. @WRByup I told myself every time that I’m ready to pull the plug if big fish come on my UL setup and I can’t control them. I did that twice which I’ll never know what kind of fish are they. Luckily I landed my PB 8.5lb bass on that Benkei rod after the fish tried to get under dock a few time.
  21. The mono will damage the bfs spool more than braid. Mono can compress the spool, the line stretch while fighting fish or pull from snagged. I use 4lb izorline if not braid (4 of them on braid only 1 on izorline).
  22. Not 100% true. I understand why OP wanna use such small lure, not for better fight but to increase catch rate or at least not skunked. Have you ever fish city park lakes in SoCal? It is small shallow, and become a zoo on weekend. A whole lot of ppl that fish on weekend would take whatever they catch home doesn’t matter size or limit. If you don’t use live bait or downsize your lure, you won’t get any bite. Another point is L or UL rod for bass (or the hype of BFS). Those rod are not regular UL rod that you see every day. They have good backbone blank but soft enough tip to be able to cast light weight lure and control fish when needed. I have never spent more than 2 minutes landing a bass from 2-4lb bass with these type rod and I caught plenty. Again I don’t downsize to catch bass, I target a whole different species. But with all you said, I agreed with you and never promote “BFS” for bass fishing, if there such huge bass in the lake/pond. I’m not a BFS guy, just a guy who enjoy UL fishing. Majorcraft speedstyle S63UL 1/64-3/16oz. Tsurinoya Proflex ii. Majorcraft Benkei L/BFS Majorcraft Goemotion L/BFS

This is true story, one night a couple of friends came and fish with me. I have head light and lantern light. We settle on the dock. My friend used his iPhone XS as light source, lo and behold he dropped the phone. It stay lit for at least 30mins underwater but he refused to dive after it (about 10 feet deep).
  24. There is SUL and XUL. SUL start at 1/64oz lure weight while most UL is 1/32oz. I’m not sure if any available in US market, you might have to get JDM rod. If you use such small bait you would catch more of small fish.
