  1. @michaelb, we don’t know the situation so let it be. Perris Lake is about 8200 acres with depth up to 100’ smaller than DVL but not small by any mean, my home lake is only 400 acres. SoCal wind is pretty bad in the afternoon, especially that day if I remembered correctly we got wind gust pretty bad up to 25mph, I had to stop fishing after 30 mins. The water temp is about 60 and depth in that area could reach 30-50’ If The guy wear a full suit for cold without PFD, that might be the cause to pull him down fast. He wasn’t behind the island so that could connect to 35mph zone. Another reminder no jeans or sneaker when on kayak people. I always wear water shoe and light weight long pants.
  2. For bobbers fishing, why you use such a short rod? With bobbers you have plenty of options, use bigger bobber to add more weight of jig head or use weighted bobber itself. My bobbers setup is 6’6 Shimano Sensilite and 7’ Spinmatic.
  3. Another reason to go with Daiwa LT series with below 7oz on 1000 size. I have 5’6 Presso pair with Sahara 750 FB 6.8oz and is perfect. Then I got Daiwa Legalis LT 1000 also @6.8oz could be happier. Anyway sold my legalis and upgrade to Tatula LT 2000 at below 6oz, can’t ask for more.
  4. Humm I deleted the end of the quote. There was PFD still on kayak. Anyway be careful out there, be very caution when windy, we always have afternoon wind here in SoCal. @Jonas Staggs, i know you just got a kayak. I made mistake once, went out on my float tube when windy. I lost one of my fins tried to kick back to shore, luckily I live in private lake and able to call marine patrol to rescue me.
  5. I checked out local forum today and just read a sad story. Please be safe and wear your PFD. “Wind was blowing 15-20 mph and I caught a couple of nice fish, but it was a lousy day at Perris. My son and I were cruising the west side of the island across from the launch ramp, when we passed a kayaker. I mentioned to my son he must be good, because waves were coming over the bow of my 21 ft. Triton. We went down another 200 yds and dropped the troller. My son then says to me "hey that kayak is empty." There was another boater in the area who we believed was pulling up the kayaker. We immediately headed over to help and soon realized that wasn't the case. He had seen him in the water, but he wasn't able to get to him in time. We both frantically searched for the next 20 minutes until the sheriff arrived” Finally they found the body of missing fisher man. https://www.pe.com/2020/03/01/man-missing-after-kayak-accident-at-lake-perris/?fbclid=IwAR1RGQGJF8KaHmDsVWWZI09xX4TduWq-dFJEvKMVV0BehD471qtnKo5UFnA
  6. “A worm” a plastic worm or live worm? Rod shimano Sensilite UL 6’6, even though it is rated at UL 1/32-3/16oz but this rod fish more like Light to me with enough backbone to handle a good size bass. https://www.sportsmans.com/shimano/shimano-sensilite-spinning-rod/p/1515781?channel=shopping&gclid=CjwKCAiA-vLyBRBWEiwAzOkGVCVFW6KJrbjXiawCnDGTCR3h8aam-rPCKV9j7vd6inK_6JfehH5BVBoCDZoQAvD_BwE Reel, Daiwa Legalis LT 1000 if you can find under 60 bucks. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Daiwa-Legalis-LT-5-2-1-Left-Right-Hand-Spinning-Fishing-Reel-LGLT1000D/651847576 If you want bigger 2500, this one Exceler LT 2500, with faster gear ratio (IPT 34.5”) better suit for bass technique. https://www.amazon.com/Daiwa-Exceler-LT-6-2-EXLT2500D-XH/dp/B077BCJ7XD/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=daiwa+legalis+lt+1000&qid=1583170842&sprefix=daiwa+legalis&sr=8-7
  7. You spent way too much, my friend. If I shop for any lures, I always compare price with Tackle warehouse. I would buy if cheaper other than that I’ll buy from Tackle warehouse. The tackle warehouse is located in CA so we pay tax and shipping(only under 50) but there always 10% off code floating around. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/strike_king_red_eye_shad/descpage-skres.html Added: BTW red eyes shad at 1/4oz is still a little bit too heavy for small shallow pond, last time I compared it a lot heavier than 1/4 Super Spot.
  8. As you know, SoCal pond mostly are dirty and shallow. I’d never have luck with any crankbait and lost them all, so I quit. If you must try Cordell super spot 1/4oz or 3/16oz at Walmart for 3 bucks a pop. Another option would be jerkbait Rapala Husky size 08.
  9. With Braid, it is very questionable, but often time, it doesn’t work at least for me. Most of the time the knot bury deep under spool, pressure and reel back can’t untangle the knot.
  10. If you and your son can make it in the morning, let say 7:00 we can fish a few hour and then go have brunch at Golf Club to celebrate your son birthday.
  11. What am I thinking? Abu Garcia Revo, man I must be crazy lol. I actually want this reel for a long time, ever since I know it use the same frame as MGxtreme, and only 5.5oz. I actually place order twice but cancel afterwards. Finally thanks to my left frozen shoulder, I have excuse to get another Lefty and happened to find a good deal on ALX. and you think shimano aldebaran is small ???
  12. Just like @BaitFinessementioned, this reel shouldn’t have any back play unlike some old shimano. Are you sure not in and out play? Maybe clean the AR bearing #84 and apply a drop of oil to see it it help. I doubt that you will damage the collar #83.
  13. Have schematic on hand, take a lot of picture especially washers and screws. Just regular oil and grease, you don’t need to take all apart. Oil 2 spool bearing, grease main and pinion gears use trim paint brush to get the grease into gear teeth. Don't attempt to take apart worm gear, if you are not sure, instead use cleaner spray like CRC electronic cleaner spray (I use Rem oil). You don’t really need to clean mainshaft bearing/bushing so leave it alone. Don’t grease AR bearing (don’t even try to remove it from housing) just a drop of oil on q-tip and apply around roller should be enough.
  14. @Crankin4Bass I’m not sure which one, so I replace both Xship bearing, 3927 and 4194. @TBAGit is quite a bit different compare to SLX, You got one more bearing (mainshaft), you got Japan bearing (which can free spin about twice as long (but it might not benefit on regular use). You got nicer color not cheap flat black. You got external fine tune adjustment. And most importantly you got light weight MGL spool. A lot of fishermen request more and more lighter spool, in believing that lighter spool cast further, thanks to those BFS crown. They willing to spend big money for that, why shimano come up with MGL to complete with Daiwa SV spool. I don’t really see a lot of benefit of lighter spool in regular use 3/8oz and up. I can cast Neg rig on conquest50 with 17.5 grams spool as good as Yumeya spool on scorpion 1000XT (8 grams). Now let me tell you something about MGL spool. At one time I have bantam MGL loaded you with #12 copolymer on 7’1 MH/XF rod. I didn’t have any other lure in my car but 1/8oz shakey head with Big TRD. I fish it anyway, and bantam MGL can handle that weight just fine giving that line and rod is not really suitable for such weight. Now to get which one is your choice, I sold my SLX MGL but still have SLX and might buy another one soon. I use my SLX for medium to heavy stuffs, but once awhile I pitch 4”senko with it no problem. @NJBasstard I see that too, man I should have open them up. There is no mention on MM gear on the reel nor the box. Curado come with stock carbon drag, and can handle 25lb crap on 8lb line with no sweat.
  15. XT and MGL is the same frame and same external adjustment. 70 is only for line capacity. If you plan to use with 12lb or more XT would be better.
  16. I don’t see any list of Micromodule gear on Shimano Japan or Singapore website, Too bad I did not open it up before selling it off. To me if they are the same price, I would pick Curado 70 any day. They both palm similar to 50 series, but curado feel more refined. I like drag set on Curado only 1/2 turn, can go from loose to lock down. From what you intend to use jig and frog, I think curado would fit better. SLX MGL is not a bad reel either. It is a lot more control than curado. I would use SLX MGL for more of finesse stuff since that would benefit more from MGL spool. I sold the reel off because I want spinning reel instead. One thing though, you might get grinding issue with Curado 70 after awhile, but that can be fix with new bearing. I didnt fish with SLX MGL long enough but my reg SLX doesn’t have this problem yet.
  17. I start to like Tatula LT even more. For the past few days I caught quite a few crappies with M/XF rod (Bass rod), the ATD drag system help a lot dealing with paper tin mouth. The drag let loose when crappie make a quick run. I don’t have to worry much about pulling the hook out of paper tin mouth. The tatula is perfect for light line technique.
  18. Now I don’t use 50lb braid to 17lb mono leader, most typical rig is 10-15lb braid to 6-8lb leader. I always use uni to uni knot so far no problem. I now have slice problem with my UL rig with 4-6 lb Nanofil to top shot 4-6lb leader (8-10’) which double uni knot hit the guide on my super micro guide (SUL rod) from time to time. I was thinking about switch to crazy Alberto knot so I compare between both. CA doesn’t really look smaller than DU knot for light line. What do you think? Picture below, the neat one (top) CA knot bottom DU knot, 15lb braid to 8lb leader.
  19. im not expert on Lucky craft but fish on a few. Look at tackle warehouse seem like,LC added a lot of model with in series. The pointer from my understanding when ppl mention is the Pointer Minnow. The Pointer H3 seem to be a modified version with 3 hooks. The B freeze used to be version available only oversea. The XR is slow sink version. Flash Pointer SP seems to be a new model (I’ve never try it)
  20. Yes one more than the other depends on how much it’s been used or abused. The ones that caught the most big fish (crap and catfish) and the one for frog, grinding first and the most. The newest one and has been use the less (71) start to feel it but not as much. In the mean time my 200ipg that I use for big spinner bait and medium swimbait still smooth. Added: a lot of ppl claimed that x-ship bearing that cause the grinding. I went to shimano headquarters and they give me a set of x-ship bearing.
  21. The SLX MGL is not a bad reel at all. It is more control than 70, and easier to cast. I think it might be able to cast light lure better than 70. It doesn’t have x ship bearing but that might be a good thing since my 4 CU70 is grinding. BTW I sold my SLX 70, not because I don’t like it but I have too many of this size reel.
  22. I was checking on this reel awhile ago, I think 2 bearing are on the knob but not sure the third one, maybe under spool bearing?
  23. Mono to mono/FC either blood knot or uni to uni knot. Mono to braid or braid to leader uni to uni knot.
  24. Where snakehead in California? I’ll move there lol.
  25. I also have braid to leader on spinning reel. I like Sufix 832 10lb, leader depends on type of fishing mostly copolymer or FC. I think I have backing on my ci4 2500F about half full.
