The Challenge vs. the Enjoyment
Fishing is enjoyment for me period, doesn’t matter if I catch any or what kind as long as I can go out and fish. That is one of the main reason we moved here to Canyon Lake. I also like to challenge myself from time to time, to catch bass with different type lures. It wouldn’t be that much fun if I went to same spot catching bass with the same lure everyday. Two year ago, I leaned and caught a lot of bass with jig, last year I caught my first bass with lipless crank and this year I learn how to fish paddle tail swimbait and caught quite a few of bass already. Fighting fish is not really in any part of enjoyment or challenge, but it is part of the game to land fish with proper gear. I’m not gonna use 15/20lb with MH rod to land 2-3lb bass and be happy nor to land 4-5lb with UltraLight rod, ultralight line and be proud of it. I admit I like Ultralight fishing and caught a lot of bass with it, I have fun but most importantly is technique to land bass.

loosing fish
Nice... I remembered I once dragged trout worm on split shot rig for those small bass. It was only way for me to catch bass in those SoCal city park lakes. It was fun on UL rod and kept me going until now. With little fishy, you might try to hook different way, flat side up, this way the lure would glide more (think leech) and you got more hook point up the lure. You got PMed.

loosing fish
I have to look up Creme Little Fishy and might try it myself this year. It is 1.5” with pretty wide body, I would use bigger hook than the one come with 1/64oz, size 8 or 10(unless you have it custom made). If you want to stay with 1/64oz jig head, Trout Slayer jig come with size 6, or 1/32oz crappie magnet double cross eye jig head size 3(actual weight is 1/24oz) add Top 1/16 Zman Mushroom jig 2nd Leland double cross eye 1/32 hook size 3 3&4 store bought 1/16 and 1.5 gram jig head hook size 6 5. 1 gram jig head hook size 8 6. Leland 1/32oz crappie magnet hook size 6. I don’t use 1/64oz.

Has anyone hired a bass guide in Socal?
There are some good guides down in lake Perris and Diamond Valley Lake. I’ve heard a lot about Moreno. When is his BD? Learn how to fish Jig, if you plan for Lake Perris.

LA - looking for fishy friends.
Welcome to SoCal, I don’t fish in that area, but Tom is an expert here and live in the area. He might be able to get you in touch with some DD bass.

Spool Bearings
Yup don’t see any difference in casting distance but a lot louder when cast and reel.

Daiwa tatula lt question
The 3000 size you got double of max brake, larger gear?, big handle plus 1 more oz. I don’t see any problem with line capacity for both 2000 and 3000 or even 1000 if you plan to use braid or super line, but if for mono/FC line go with bigger spool for line management. I actually use 1000 for bass, and 2000 for crappie (2mm difference).

Gliss.....Again
Yes the line frayed easily on this line even just from rubbing the guides, but have any one got broke off from it? I still have one 24lb spool on my UL baitcaster. The thing that steered me away from using in spinning is wind knot. Once that happen it is gonna be hard to fix, and would make the line even weaker after fixed. I like the line enough for sensitivity and sink rate, it seems to cut through water pretty well, way better than braid line. I use this line mostly for crappie, I use trilene knot when tie direct or double uni (6 wraps on Gliss, 4 on leader) with 4-6lb leader. No problem so far. Will I use it again, MAY BE, but not for bass for sure. I don’t see the need of Gliss line for bass and it might not worth on the troubles. Sufix 832 is what I plan to use for bass exclusively.

gut hooked small fish
Agree with both barbless and forceps. I found that with bluegill rod barbs is not necessity. I bought this after having issue deep hooking crappie with #6 hook (come with 1/32oz jig)

Heavy Backing On Spinning Reel
It should be fine only one slight problem is the knot gonna be pretty big on 20lb mono. You gonna need at least 5-10 wraps to cover the knot. If you don’t have enough line the thin line would get caught in the knot and stop you line going out worse yet, your lures might fly away. But that is an easy fix, use plumber tape or masking tape and wrap around your knot a few times.

How do YOU fish a swimbait?
Same as @Bluebasser86mentioned slow retrieve, but I will add pop and pause to make the lure turn 180 degree once a while if your lure is slow sink type. You can let it sink but don’t let it sit on bottom those treble hook are snag magnet.

Searching for two specific small jigheads
@Dangerfieldthat sounds good, another rig that work very well with Zman Plastic is Jikarig. The difference is you don’t swim but fish just like shaky head. I made my own a few years back with 3/16oz weight and roboworm hook which work better than ewg hook (you cannot really skin hook on Elaztech and they would come down the hook often)

Line Lay Issues
It should work as long as it is not too big or too loose. I would put the one from stradic down first then it’s own washer to make sure tight fit. At one time I needed ci4 washer, I had to use shield from Boca bearing instead. It worked until I got the part needed.

Trick worm
Zoom trick worm, the last time I checked on clear plastic bucket not bath tub(I only play with my wife in bathtub not plastic, ?) the diamond shape tail end would move up with just a little bit of twisting and slowly sink down, the body stay on bottom even with 2/0ewg hook. I poked in small section of sealed cocktail straw 1/2” at the tail (act as air chamber) and the tail float right up. And Green pumpkin magic is the best.

Searching for two specific small jigheads
If you plan to use any of ball style head,I recommend using 1/2 ZinkerZ instead of TRD. I found that ZinkerZ will get a lot softer and more buoyancy over time. The TRD is hit and miss, even in the same package, some will stay kinda firm and less buoyancy even after a few fish. ZinkerZ would definitely have enough buoyancy to stand up with the right weight (1/16oz) I always use owner ultra ball head 1/8-3/16 with a whole ZinkerZ and it stand up just fine.

Line Lay Issues
Add washer shim, it should come with your reel. If not you might have to order it from shimano. Shimano website only have version down to FD, you might have to call and confirm.

Trout gut hooked- Normal?
This ^^^^^^ And don’t even touch the trout with your dry hand or lay down on the ground either if you wanna release them. It is even more anal in trout community than bass for catch and release type. If I go for trout fishing all of them come back home with me lol. BTW I was gonna ask you and your son to join me at Santa Ana river for trout, I guess not now, lol.

Searching for two specific small jigheads
Im not sure if that will be good for brush pile but i got less snag when hook this way. The problem is lead head and hook seem to come loose after using awhile, and the hook is pretty soft, bended easily not brittle like Zman. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Eagle_Claw_Lazer_Sharp_Weedless_Pro-V_Finesse_Jig_5p/descpage-LSPVWJ.html?from=gshop&gclid=CjwKCAiAgqDxBRBTEiwA59eEN800_N6VY88jlMDvjSTTjm2h3dWOtCYG-gm40bTGYkNhOXkZ8CNqHhoCMYoQAvD_BwE

Hello Huddleston... Where are you?
You might be lucky that you haven’t got your yet. I lost 2 already this year.

Spool pin remover
Are you sure you do the right way? Mine come with 2 side little pin use only when push through hole, use bigger side at beginning to make it flush to hole first.

Light lures
Just like everyone ask, how light you considered light? For someone, weightless senko considered light even though they are almost 3/8oz. If you are looking to cast 1/8oz lure true weight and you don’t have special need for baitcaster then spinning is the way to go, easy to put together, can be pretty cheap since you buy everything here domestically. To me to consider using either spinning vs bait caster is not just the weight of lure, but presentation that more important. My friend who have better casting gears than me open up my eyes when he uses spinning outfit on some of the finesse presentation. He caught 8 bass that night while me hardheaded got nothing. Since then I use spinning only on Neko Rig, Shaky head and soon Ned rig and wacky rig.

Crappie
I remembered started seriously fishing for crappies last year. I’ve read whatever I can find, behavior between black and white crappie, spawning period, and where they usually hangout during the season. I have built my gear arsenals just for crappies, 4 casting and 3 spinning. I have tried and true many lures and plastic over the year. I search mostly from this forum and also crappie forum, also watch a lot of you tube, like Richard Gene, trout magnet man, Ifish and Fish addict. I mostly fish from land but sometimes would take my boat or tube out just for them. The guy that responsible for all these is 618fishing, who get me in love with UltraLight fishing. I’m still new to crappie fishing and still a lot to learn, but to tell you the truth I got more excited on my first 2020 crappie than my bass lol. Good luck to you, don’t give up, keep reading and go out there and have some fun. My first crappie of 2020 caught this one on Tiny Trap yesterday.

Crappie of a different color
Send me one and I’ll tell you if it is a keeper lol. Crappies here started coming in shallow now and I’m not sure if I should throw big swimbait for bass or tiny one for crappies.

what's worse?
I think I might agree with this ^^^ if I saw the bass and lost it somehow at least I know it is a bass and can at least guesstimate the weight. I would think about it but not for long until I catch the next one. Didnt see them but feel them, this is worse. Almost a week back I got a fish hit me hard on Huddleston 68 weedless, almost pull the rod out of my hand. Everything went wrong, I did set the hook but my hand wasn’t holding the rod/reel as usual, then the drag slip since I didn’t set it properly. Im still thinking about that one every single day. BTW, I switched back to top hook hudds since that day.

Shimano Ci4+ vs Daiwa LT spinning reel
They both pretty good and light weight. Now depends on which LT. Daiwa seem a lot smoother and a lot less effort to reel. The Tatula LT is also quite a bit cheaper than ci4+. I have Ci4 2500 and Regalis 1000 LT for crappie. I wanted another reel and decided on Tatula LT.
