  1. I posted this on my bulletin board at my work. a few of my coworkers are fishermen too. and none use a baitcaster except me hahahaha.
  2. for spinning any style that has the nut on the bottom (uplocking not down locking) is my favorite.
  3. it is not necessary, but it is certainly a much better tool for throwing big lipped crankbaits and big blade baits (these baits have a ton of water resistance and will tire you out fishing them on a spinning reel quickly. I learned that the hard way).
  4. I know it is an investment, but I have two G. Loomis 3 piece Escape series rods, I bought them mainly because the pvc rod tube they come with fits inside the largest standard size suitcase (on the diagonal). So when I travel with my rods I can fit them safely inside my suitcase. in an indistructable crush proof tube. Plus they are awesome rods to boot I just have to hope my suitcase doesn't get lost.
  5. I have a friend who has the ballistic and loves it. my only gripe with it is that they no longer have a ball bearing in the line roller, and I believe tackletours review stated that it wasn't great at preventing line twist (which the old twist buster diawas were great at ) is it because they took the ball bearing out of the line roller?? I have a stradic 3000Fk and love it but its not a ci4
  6. the new E6Xs (2018 models) are really nice, that being said, people say the zodias are more sensitive. personally, I hate the ergonomics of the zodias (i find the full cork handles of the E6X to be much more comfortable than the Ci4/EVA foam of the zodias) and the lack of the hook keeper on the zodias would drive me nuts. If it were me i would stick with the 2018 E6X.
  7. I recently upgraded to a 7'6 baitcasting rod and love it. I would never go back to a short rod.
  8. I prefer the 200 sizes, but then again, Im a mono user and its the perfect spool size for 12 to 14 pound mono.
  9. i have had my curado 200i for I think three years now, I have the PG (5.5:1 ratio) version for throwing big bladed baits like the mepps #5 for pike, big spinnerbaits and big crankbaits for bass. its holding up perfectly. I just give it a few drops of lube every now and then and away I go. Its a great reel but no longer in production
  10. Im a mono fan, I use Sufix Siege 12 pound test on my Curado 200i. Strong and easy to cast. Casts like a bullet.
  11. I like Sufix Siege, 12 pound on baitcasting, 10 pound on spinning.
  12. I use 4 pound Sufix Siege mono. its awesome.
  13. Hi all, does anyone still use classic style round reels like the Calcutta B? I have always wanted to own a shiny gold Calcutta (the conquest is out of my price range lol) and was thinking about picking up a 200b or gtb (actually for steelhead fishing). Are these reels still being made? don't here much about them anymore? thanks
  14. I agree, it looks like only a surface scratch. thankfully. So, how did your buddy react when you told him you need him out of your life from now on?
  15. I would pick up a spool of 12 pound sufix Siege, its much easier to cast than the Big Game and just as strong/tough for the line rating. only problem is it is much more expensive as it cannot be purchased cheaply in those 1/4 spools. But there is a good reason for that, its well worth your money.
  16. are you sure that your reel is functioning as it should? ie the brakes and spool tension are working properly? Reason I ask is that with the weight you are casting (3/8oz) it should be relatively easy to get the hang of it. if you are adjusting things tighter and still having all kinds of problems it could be your reel and not your casting technique at all. ie you are tightening up the spool tension adjustment and its not actually putting more tension on. or you are turning on another brake but it is not engaging properly etc.
  17. I have a curado 200i PG 5.5:1 ratio reel that I love for cranking. but its last generation model. but you may be able to find them on ebay etc. its a very nice reel, smooth and powerful. Casts very well.
  18. I use it for everything. Sufix Siege on all my reels.
  19. up here in Canada we can get 8 and 6 pound big game in the 1/4 spools (at Canadian tire for example). I have used the 8 on spinning gear. I have used 12 on baitcasting gear, but I found that another 'tough' line Sufix Siege is just as strong and abrasion resistant but it is much more limp and more slick so it casts way farther on casting gear. So I switched to Siege from Big Game. however, it is much more expensive as you cannot get it in the cheap bulk spools like you can Big Game. However, for me its, worth it, I use 10 on spinning and 12 on casting gear. its awesome stuff.
  20. I like Big Game on baitcasting, but i find it too stiff for spinning gear. Sufix Siege is the only 'tough' mono I have found that is still limp enough to be using on spinning gear and still cast well. for 8 and 10 pound test, it casts very well. I have also used heavier pound tests on a 4000 size reel for casting heavy spoons for salmon also. it casts great.
  21. Sufix Siege is the best mono I have ever used. I used to be a trilene user but no more. I use 10 pound on spinning and 12 on casting gear.
  22. i like mono too, tried braid, had issues with wind knots etc. so I went back to mono. I do like the stretch when fighting a big fish. I use Sufix Siege on both spinning and baitcasting gear. love the stuff. Although I want to try the new sufix advanced.
  23. I am a Loomis and St. Croix fanboy, so I would say for that budget either a St. Croix Avid or 2018 model G. Loomis E6X (not the first generation which are not as good as the updated 2018 models).
  24. i have never used either, but I do know that a lot of people don't like recoil guides which are found on the NRX, but not the GLX (or the Conquest)
  25. the tackletour review of the ballistic mentions that it is only average in handling line twist. Daiwa used to be the best in this regard. why did they remove the line roller bearing? its a no brainer if you ask me - no line roller bearing = get the stradic,
