Trilene XL
I switched from Trilene XL to Big Game. I agree that it has lots of memory. A few squirts of KVD line and lure or Reel Snot takes care of that.

I am not cool with Mother Nature right now.
Winter Weather Advisory here for Saturday into Sunday. inch of snow or sleet and a tenth or two-tenths on an inch of ice possible. I am right on the border of that mess or up to three inches of snow.

Yakers what kayak do you run?
Pelican Tracker 100 Angler (DSG exclusive) sit-in kayak. Pros: CHEAP ($229 on sale) LIGHT (38 lbs) fast stable Cons: Only 2 flush mount rod holders Very little storage capacity (Front and rear storage hatches are basically bowls with a plastic cover. I put my anchor in the rear one, front is empty.) 2 piece hull (would prefer roto-molded) Hull scratches easy and being made of multiple thin layers I feel it will wear out quickly.

Lightest Braid on BC
The lightest braid I like to throw on a baitcaster is 0.25mm (30lb) To compare, I use floro/copoly hybrid line that is 0.30mm (12lb) on most of my other baitcasters.

spinning rod recommendations
I use a Denali AttaX rod 7' Med/Fast for most of my finesse applications for Bass. I highly recommend it. One of the best looking rods I own as well. The Winn grips are icing on an already beautiful cake.

Spooling question
I have done the same with all my baitcasters with whiffle spools. I recently bought my first baitcaster where the spool has no holes. It was a new experience for me to attach the line on that one.

KastKing Spartacus
My Kastking Arsenal includes all the baitcast reels except the Spatacus Maximus and the Royal Legend. I had the regular Spartacus. It was the second caster I bought after being impressed with the Stealth. I loved it. I fished it hard and all the paint wore off on it (Kastking logo, Spartacus name and numbers on the outside magnetic brake) The only issue I had with it other than the paint was the thumb bar was sticky from time to time. My favorite part of it was that it was very forgiving of backlashes. That's a trait with almost all the Kastking baitcasters. I would still be using mine but I dropped it while it was open for a cleaning. Pieces were everywhere and it wasn't the same after I attempted to put it back together. I upgraded to the Assassin as a replacement and it has become one of my favorite reels.

Getting kids involved
That Zebco Dock Demon is hard to beat for a cheap kids combo. Best part is you can use the rod for ice fishing in a pinch. I had a different idea when my son started fishing at that age. While he did have a superman fishing combo he also had a Pflueger Spincast with an All Star rod combo I put together. Fishing at that age was mostly me catching the fish and letting him reel it in so I wanted something I was comfortable using.

Nice Yak! Those *** rods match it perfectly.

I need a good casting rod
Great rod. I highly recommend it. Another candidate is the Kastking Perigee II What a great rod considering the $59.99 price tag.

Personal favorite reel brand
I have the same outlook on this subject.

Blue's Multispecies Challenge
Love these type of challenges. I had 13 total species caught locally last year for mine. If I went micro fishing I could have easily doubled my total.

Sleep Apnea
Lines on the face from the straps that last all day. Straps pulling hair out so much so I thought I was going to go bald in places. Dry mouth from when the mask shifts during the night. Not to mention mask shifts create a woosh of air that would wake my wife. I agree better than not breathing but so glad to not need it anymore. The hair loss alone was enough to make sure I keep my weight in check.

The latest sale thread
Ollies are a lot like Walmart in the sense that they all have different items for sale in their "biggest fishing buyout ever." My closest Ollies for instance has no lucky craft lures. They do have junk fishing combos, some GYBC Senkos, various powerbaits, and various line (Vicious and Suffix Elite being the best of a bad lot) I check from time to time trying to strike gold but I come up disappointed most of the time.

Sleep Apnea
I didn't know what a real night sleep was until I got the CPAP machine. Prior to getting it I would fall asleep everywhere. Watching a movie from start to finish was almost impossible. People thought I had narcolepsy. I really needed that machine back then. I am glad I don't anymore though.

Snow!!! Got to be the last snow of the season.
The local groundhog up here knew. He saw his shadow.

Sleep Apnea
I suffered from sleep apnea years ago. Mine was weight related. When I weighed over 210 pounds I would have stop breathing in my sleep. I dropped down to 190 lbs and have no more apnea. I have maintained that weight for over 3 years now. When I had my machine I made sure I had two kinds of masks. The one that just fits over your nose and the full face kind. The nose one was for normal sleeping nights. The full mask was for when I had congestion problems that prevented me from breathing through my nose. They have much better and smaller machines than I had now. They advertise one on the radio that fits in the palm of your hand. Mine was a ResMed. worked great and easy to clean. The filter was washable so I didn't have to spend money on disposable ones.

**The Official 2018 Ice-Out Thread**
That sums up life in the Northeast right now. It did feel good to go out and actually cast into open water even if I got the skunk.

1000- 2500 SIZE REELS
Great reel. I have the old model with the wooden handle knob. It is still going strong. My light action reels of choice last year was my Kastking Sharky II 1500 size reel. Spooled it with 6lb mono and it handled my dropshot, ned rigging and trout fishing action. I even caught a 3lb Channel Cat while using it. It's a great little workhorse reel and a lot of features for the price. Fat bail wire, carbon fiber drag, 10+1 bearing system, sealed body that is waterproof for up to a 3 minute dunk in the water.

Daiwa Laguna Casting Rod
The cheaper Daiwa rods usually fish well above their price points. I have seen this rod as low as $18 on sale at DSG and Cabelas during the holiday season.
