  1. After part of my yard was snow free from the near 60 degree temps this week the bottom fell out today. A foot of snow fell and temps are dropping to the teens.
  2. He did the right thing, who sells a broken rod and a reel with no handle for $15? More like Badwill.
  3. Spinning? I have no experience with the Quantum Smoke but I do have the Abu Garcia Zata 20 spinning reel. I love this reel. Unlike it’s graphite baitcaster counterpart it has an aluminum frame. Casts a mile with the rocket spool and is smooth. I plan on using it on a medium light rod for Panfish, Trout, Pickerel, Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass. I got mine on sale and could not be happier
  4. It wasn’t easy. My wife thought I was going to catch and relocate Mickey…she was bummed the rest of the day at my handiwork. Do yourself a favor and get a professional involved. I called my exterminator company. They visit a few times a year to take care of our ants ? but will take care of other pests as well. My guy put some rodent traps out and he will be back in the spring to lay out some more.
  5. A mouse ran into my garage when I was doing my last mow in the fall. I stalked him like a lion in the Serengeti stalks a gazelle. I got him the old fashion way…with a straw broom. Better him than the wires in my vehicles. Now if I can only keep them out of my BBQ…
  6. It will be late April before Bass are an option in these parts. I will be throwing all the things Tom mentions then.
  7. Same here. The Lew’s LFS is a great reel but there are no aftermarket shallow spools available for them. I was able to find one for my Abu Garcia Revo X. I plan on using this with lighter lines this season.
  8. I work with some folks that have fast food everyday for lunch. I brown bag a Turkey and cheese sandwich and a pack of mixed nuts for lunch most days. Sub out a Greek yogurt some days for the sandwich. Fast food fr me is when I need just that something fast. Usually a late work night and I will grab something on the way home to eat. I try to find the “healthiest” thing on the menu, Wendy’s grilled chicken sandwich or the power bowl option at Taco Bell.
  9. My wife recently got a CPAP after needing one for years. It has helped somewhat but she has developed a habit of waking up at 2-3 am everyday and not going back to sleep. Her Mom and Dad had to be up at early hours for their jobs. The whole family are EARLY risers. I also wake up with a song in my head, totally random songs. I thought I was the only one ?
  10. I heard of them but I can’t imagine why I would use one over a Rapala floating minnow.
  11. I stay up late and wake up later in the winter months. Come spring it’s early to bed and early to rise to get that sunrise bite. I have very little trouble falling asleep. Back when I was heavier and had sleep apnea I would fall alseep watching a movie and take lots of short naps during the day. Now that I have my weight under control I know what a good nights sleep feels like.
  12. I just shed 6 of the 10 pounds of “hibernation weight” I gained during the winter. Got to get in shape for spring fishing. a balanced approach of moving more and watching my calories has been the key for me. I have kept at my target weight of 190lb for a decade by lifestyle changes. The Lose It app and eventually my fitness watch were what made that lifestyle change stick.
  13. In other news, stock value of Mr Buddy heaters slid down drastically upon news of the way Ohio natives keep warm in ice shanties hit the news…
  14. Not speaking for your situation but for most a wage increase is eaten up by inflation or increase in medical insurance so in essence it’s a wash. Years ago we would get a COLA (cost of living adjustment) and an annual raise. Lately all we get is the COLA.
  15. I have the first three, Basic overhead cast, Flipping/pitching and Sidearm cast down. Sidearm is what I use 99% of the time bank fishing. The rest I would be a novice at.
  16. Old Spice Burley aftershave… Oh fishing things we wish were still around. That would be the Vibra Bat lure for me.
  17. I have the 4 piece St Croix Triumph travel spinning rod. It will fit in my carry on backpack when traveling by plane. I stick it in my suitcase though.
  18. Luckily I am in the want, not need stage of rod and reel purchasing. Sure I want new rods and reels. Do I need them, nope my arsenal is pretty full.
  19. I agree, quantity over quality works best for people that fish a lot. I am blessed to live close to water. I am able to get out and fish Spring through Early winter for 4 out of 7 days a week.
  20. I had a DIY anchor like this for my sit in kayak. I have since retired it in favor of a brush anchor. There is always something around on shore, overhanging or sticking up out of the water to clip it to.
  21. From what I read the offer was $100,000 per loss. There’s a small part of me that would have had a ballpeen hammer at the ready to kneecap my players as they went onto the field.
  22. Appetite for Destruction Van Halen II The Black Album The White Album Kiss Alive II Paranoid
  23. Since I am a quantity over quality fisherman my measure of success is not getting skunked on any given trip. I do love catching big Bass though. The law of averages is on my side. If you catch lots of fish a few of them are bound to be big. Happens every season to me.
  24. I was looking at the new Seaguar Basix 101 line in Walmart today. Fluorocarbon line for $9.84 they had 6# and 8# I was thinking of buying for a spinning reel. In the end I chickened out and bought a spool of 10# for my baitcaster.
  25. Another vote for the Lew’s LFS. I have the regular and inshore versions. Inshore is $20 more. Walmart has an exclusive Abu Garcia Max Z baitcaster for $54 bucks. I bought one to try this year. The silver grey paint job looks great on my St Croix Reign rod. The reel is basically a copy of the $88 Max Pro with 1 less bearing.
