How many have mostly abandoned the Ned Rig
Like a weightless worm rig the Ned rig will always have a place in my rotation.

BBZ-1 Rat Pack ~
Same thing I thought.maybe he is April fooling you with the Terminator BB1? I would have to get a gray one in the smallest size first. Looks like the squirrels that like to swim across the river I fish. Perfect match the hatch.

Looking for some comfortable fishing shoes
In kayak or on a boat, Crocs are my footwear of choice. I bought a pair years ago when visiting Disney. I was amazed how comfortable and quick dry they were. When everyone was walking around with wet feet after a rain I was dry and comfortable. Got my first and last polka-dot tan on my feet that trip. Sunscreen on my feet after that. Bonus is they clean up from fish slime and fish blood easily.

Inexpensive, universal baitcasting rod
I recommend the Lew’s Laser SG1 for $49.99 or the Lew’s Hank Parker Speed Stick (Walmart exclusive) for $39.74 These are my favorite rods under $50 They are really nice underrated rods.

Bearings for Lews
Definitely reach out to Lew’s. They have stellar customer service. There are 2 versions of the Mach 1 baitcaster. I believe they redid that line of combos 2 years ago. That’s why you are seeing the different models. The pic you posted is the newer Mach 1 The old ones don’t have the combat grips.

New fisherman looking for versatile spinning combo
I have an old President from when they made them with the wooden handle knob. They will have to pry it from my cold dead hands. One of my favorite ultralight reels.

New fisherman looking for versatile spinning combo
Good advice above. If you do go the academy route, one of those Lew’s Spinning combos will be a good choice. I would suggest the Lew’s Mach 2 spinning combo. The reel has an aluminum frame. I have had mine for 3 seasons with little maintenance and it performs like the day I got it.

How many bass do you catch in a year? How many bass have you caught in your life?
Last year I was going for numbers. It was a friendly competition with a friend in Florida. He had a head start on me FEB-APR is frozen here. I caught 600 fish, mostly Smallmouth, all dink’s. The amount of fish over 2 pounds I caught was historically low. My average in years past is 300-350 fish.

COVID-19 Blues
The pet stores in the area had a 70% off sale on all dogs and cats to sell them all before closing shop. Our friends have a brand new puppy to help them through the shelter in place.

COVID-19 Blues
Sorry to hear about your wife @A-Jay last place I would want to be near is a hospital. I hope she gets better soon. The irony here is my wife does work at the local hospital and she has been deemed “essential” She runs payroll so all the doctors and nurses get paid. Day 2 of shelter in place here. We got 8” of snow yesterday. I woke up my neighbors this morning with the sweet sound of a snowblower. Had to get the driveway done so my wife could get to work. I am busier at home than at the job working from home. Worked a 12 hour day yesterday and more of the same when I punch in at 8am. My heart goes out to all that can’t work and have no source of income right now. I hope this ends soon and things go back to the new normal. I say new normal as I predict much like after 9/11 we will never be the same again. New rules and laws will go into place to prevent things like this from happening again.

How many baits do you actually use?
Some follow the “Better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it” mentality. I pack light and I still bring more than I need. Usually 3 to 5 confidence baits and about the same amount of lures I think I might use or want to try. That’s for shore fishing and depends on the amount of time I have to fish.

Shelter in place Ribs
All these ribs and brisket make my slow cooker salsa and bbq London Broil look anemic. That’s what I had over the weekend. Tender and flavorful.

Last Reel Ever - The One.....
I would go with a Shimano Aldebaran. I want a light baitcaster and something for throwing lures 1/4 to 1/2 oz.

The latest sale thread
Got the DSG/Field and Stream 2020 gear guide in the mail yesterday. The sale prices went into effect today. They also have a $10 off $50 or more purchase in effect today. I just want a bit of normal back in my life as they are closed in my area. They offer curbside pick-up as you can’t go in the store. So I ordered the New Lew’s Carbon Fire Speed Spin size 200 reel. It’s basically the Mach 2 aluminum framed reel with 2 less bearings and red nd black instead of lime green and black. Normally $69.98 on sale for $59.98. $10 off for $50+ purchase = $49.98 + tax. The best part was I had $30 rewards point cash from purchasing clothes over the winter and fall so it brought the price down to $21 for this reel. I ordered it to be shipped to me as we are getting 4-8” of snow tomorrow so I won’t be fishing until it arrives in the mail anyway.

gloom and doom...end of times prepping
Shore fishing trip. I could have launched my kayak but the water was frigid. I am being extra careful out there because the last place I want to have to go is the hospital.

gloom and doom...end of times prepping
We are under shelter in place here in NY. I was able to go shopping for milk and a few necessities yesterday. Walmart was open. Gassed up the car $2.30 a gallon here. I went fishing at the feeder canal trail. Caught nothing from the river but I was just happy to cast. There were lots of people out walking, enjoying the sunshine and fresh air no matter how nippy it was (39 degrees)

budget rods
I agree and at $40 it is the deal of the decade for what you get at that price. For $50 you could get the Lew’s Laser SG1 it’s another fantastic budget rod.

S.S. Amoeba has been sunk!
Anyone who would look at someone else’s property and intentionally set out to damage it is not all there in the head. Growing up my Dad would verbally rip me a new one if he saw me leaning or sitting on someone else’s car. He taught me to respect other people’s property. I have done the same with my son. This is a true shame. Especially thinking of your kids not being able to enjoy the canoe. Test whatever repair you might make before bringing them onboard.

Are any lakes closing in your area?
Tom, I believe seafood is the general term for “fish” as food. I buy rainbow trout fillets in my supermarkets seafood section and that’s a fresh water fish. i should have said, Can you imagine if the food hoarders look at local lakes and think of all the fish they could catch and eat.

gloom and doom...end of times prepping
I have a small garden (onions, green beans, carrots and tomatoes) it will be awhile before I get it going, temps still below freezing here at night. My in laws have the bigger garden and we share vegetables. We are ok for the time being, plenty of canned and dried non-perishable stuff. I joke with my wife that once I am out of peanut butter and oatmeal I am catching perch and bluegill to eat. After that it’s time to break out the BB gun and thin out the squirrel population here. Starting Monday i go to a work from home schedule for the next 2 weeks at least.
