  1. Something seems bassackwards about this...........
  2. 5/6 wt is ok for bass, maybe a little too heavy for panfish. I have been using cheap fly rods since I was 12 and I still buy the cheapest ones I can find that have decent action. I'm a part time fly fishing guide and get to use the $1000 combos for guiding and they honestly make little to no difference. Unless of course you are in sales
  3. I would totally go Asian Carp fishing with Bill dance! With a fish fry to follow
  4. So there was recently a big meeting or 3 concerning new regulations for transporting live bait from one lake to the next in West Tennessee . The concern is that a small silver or bighead carp could be mistaken for a small shad and taken from one side of a dam to the other, for instance a striper catfish or bass fisherman netting shad below pickwick dam in Kentucky lake and then fishing with them upstream somewhere in pickwick lake or elsewhere. In TN there are several people that transport live shad, mainly striper and catfishermen that have nice bait tanks capable of keeping shad alive for days even weeks . These fishermen were obviously concerned about not being able to continue thier practices so they went to all the meeting and reported all that was said and presented , etc. One interesting thing that I read was that TWRA chief of fisheries Frank Fiss says that the agency has been unable to identify and reproduction of Asian carp in Tennessee waters. A few in this thread have suggested interrupting thier spawning habits as a means of population control. So far they don't even know if or where they spawn so I guess there is more to learn or they are being transported from lake to lake by humans
  5. Now we're talking! I always start getting way more bites when summer finally ends. I don't mind hot sunny weather but it tends to make fishing lousy for me
  6. There are rivers near my house that go from 30 ft deep to ankle deep very quickly. You still need a jet unless you want to fish the same pool of water everyday
  7. Gentleman's hardware I think
  8. I heard a scuba diver say that braid makes a crazy sound underwater, I'm guessing similar to the sound it makes going through the rod guides. Not sure if it's true but I may jump in and listen one day
  9. Well dynamite is illegal and electro shocking is only for sampling and is illegal for the public. I have volunteered on shock boats and have worked for the Fed electrofishing streams with a backpack generator and it is very fun. Catch and release too! If you really want to make bass fishing “sporting,” then why not fish with only Fly gear?
  10. Do you have bearing buddies? Mine always comes out of the tiny overflow hole that lets you know when it’s full. Sometimes it could come from around the dust cap cover. I have pulled a boat all over the southeast with grease slinging everywhere, at least that means you still have some grease in there! I like my outboard to be smoking and my hubs to be slinging hahaa. Well I would rather they didn’t sling grease but it doesn’t lead to problems (for me) as long as it’s slinging from the outside as opposed to the inside
  11. Gotcha thanks. 9plus is a monster for anywhere
  12. Wow what state do you live in??? They allow you to drink beer on the lake in Tennessee, just can’t be over the limit. Also I have never heard of a passenger getting a ticket for riding too fast hahah. I bet a judge would have thrown that out but then you would have to go to court and probably pay for that . The one fish over the limit they will get you for every time anywhere in the country
  13. Works like magic around here too
  14. Love spooks but don't wait until fall!
  15. @jbmaine, what were you doing on the TN river??? Just kidding, that's how all the glitter rockets fish here too. 10 years ago you could escape it up in the shallow rivers but now jet boats turn fuel into noise ALL DAY LONG . Seems hard to catch any fish on plane. @Mike L, you wouldn't consider driving within 25 ft of someone doing something wrong?
  16. Oh goodness......... found an old soft shell on a trot line that I hooked with a shad rap once.....bluuuhhh....... @Choporoz, strange coincidence I also used a split shot rig to catch a few suspended fish a couple days ago, they had already quit hitting other baits so I was trying different things to get down to them. I guess all that I “learned” this week was from idling around watching the graph and remembering key spots. Well that and Reiterated that September is one of the best months for smallmouth Fishing here locally (google photos from past years helped remind me )
  17. And both these places are near you? Wow.........
  18. I like bone color on my topwaters. Buzzbait I like white but a lot of People like black. I usually try a few different things, I chucked a prop bait into busting fish the other day and they wouldn’t hit it. Threw a spook and one hit it harder than I could ever imagine. Maybe he didn’t see the prop bait but with big loud stuff I figure they see and hear it on the first cast or two
  19. I get some hand poured. Also love rage craw and a rage menace on a shakey head (or Texas rig) is a heck of a craw imitation
  20. Got any world war II depth charges? I appreciate the offer but I'll leave the musky targeting to the guys that love it, those Pike are what interest me. I like fish that you can catch all the time. Nothing against musky guys, the dude in the picture is a buddy that guides for them here. It's just not my thing
  21. You are correct we have some giant musky but no Pike. I'm not too excited about the 10,000 casts though.......... Sorry for the hijack @A-Jay
  22. You sir, need to be in Las Vegas
  23. It's unbelievable how many of that size come out of there. Or did you mean chickahominy not chickamauga??
