Baitcaster for plastic worms????
Sounds like operator error. Nothin to be ashamed of. When I got my first baitcaster I let it sit for 2 months after getting fed up with not knowing how to work it. It takes practice.

Baitcaster Line
My guess would be for catfish or trolling. When I first got a baitcaster I went too cheap and I got cheap results. I'm not sure what your budget is but I think good starter options are the Lews Laser MG, Lews LFS, Shimano Caenan, and the Lews Carbonfire are good starting reels.

Med/ xfast rod
I have St Croix Mojo bass rod with the same specs. I use it for weightless stick baits and flukes. I use 40# braid with a 12# or 15# flouro leader and its works great. Those 6'8" medium/xf rods are made for jerkbaits and topwaters but most walking style top waters exceed 5/8 ounces.

Cabelas brand rods??
I have the Cabelas Tourney Trail 6'6" mh/mf Casting Rod that I used for chatterbaits. I love that rod and I have no problems horsing fish in. All cabelas rods have a lifetime warranty. I have nothing bad to say about my rod, I actually recommend them guys that fish on a budget like me.

Baitcaster recommendations
Get a Daiwa Tatula Type R or SV for a baitcast reel.

Flourocarbon to flourocarbon for line shy smallies
Whatever gives you more confidence but the difference between 6# and 8# flouro is minimal at best.

Fluorocarbon for frogs?
Flouro is too stretchy, but I'm sure it can be done. 50# and up BRAID!!!

50lb braid to heavy for light tackle
"Light Tackle" is very general. I personally throw weightless flukes and senkos on 40# braid with 12# or 15# leader. I have no problems with it.

Looking for a finesse baitcaster
Lew's Mach II is what I use, but I am looking to upgrade to the Daiwa Tatula SV.

Baitcaster Line
25 pound mono is some pretty thick stuff. I personally wouldn't use 25 pound mono when I can use braid that has a higher pound test and a much smaller diameter. Get some braid.

Hooking Yourself
I caught a fish on a spook today and of course I got hooked twice in 2 different places. I will be using lip grippers from here on out when I am using a lure with treble hooks.

Chatterbait fishing
I love fishing chatterbaits when it's windy and/or overcast. I like to slow roll my chatterbaits most of the time but sometimes I will jerk it and pause it. You can fish it off the bottoms too. I prefer the project z chatter bait.

Top 12 Bass Lakes
I get happy when I can get a bass that exceeds 1.5 pounds out of Geist. It seem like the most of big bass are caught on night crawlers when people are fishing for blue gill. I know the struggle.

Braided line
I have only used power pro, suffix 832, and spider wire. I would say out of these 3 power pro is my favorite and spider wire is my least favorite. I usually get my power pro from wal mart so its convenient for me.

Best Starter Baitcaster
Don't get the Abu Garcia Silver Max what ever you do. Lews Carbonfire is a good choice but it's only sold at Dicks if you have one in your area.

What knot for spinnerbait?
Palomor with straight braid.
-
Is leader length important?
Im right there with you. I make it to where the knot doesn't reel into the spool. I literally make sure the knot stops an in inch or 2 before the level wind.

Top water buzz bait?
That made me laugh. But I did catch a largemouth while fishing a buzzbait under the surface when I was kid. I didn't know any better.

Braided line
I cast weightless flukes and senkos on a casting set up with 40lb braid and 12lb flouro leader. I get good casting distance. I personally don't like going below 40lb braid on baitcasters due to the digging in.

Knots, which ones to use and why
Snell Knot - all single hooks no matter the line Palamor Knot - for lures when using braid or mono Berkeley Braid Knot - for lures when using flouro Albright Knot - main line to leader

Is leader length important?
It's a personal preference. The leaders I tie on average are about 8.5 feet in length. I am not big on retying new leaders for every presentation so I initially tie on a long leader and as I switch lures or hooks it will decrease in length. Once I get down to 2 feet I put a new leader on.
